Hierarchical power distribution with a power tree has been developed. The key features are a power-tree structure with three power-tree management rules and a distributed common power domain ...implementation. The hierarchical power distribution supports a fine-grained power gating with dozens of power domains, which is analogous to a fine-grained clock gating. Leakage currents of a 1 000 000-gate power domain were effectively reduced to 1/4000 in multi-CPU SoCs with minimal area overhead

We report on the progress and status of DAQ-Middleware, a software framework for a distributed data acquisition system. We made improvements in DAQ-Middleware and released package (version 1.0.0) in ...August 2010. We describe here its improvements in performance and the component development method we used. We also report on the current status of DAQ-Middleware for use at the Material and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC).
DAQ-Middleware is a framework for the DAQ system which is based on RT-Middleware (Robot Technology Middleware) and dedicated to making DAQ systems. DAQ-Middleware has come into use as a one of the ...DAQ system framework for the next generation Particle Physics experiment at KEK in recent years. DAQ-Middleware comprises DAQ-Components with all necessary basic functions of the DAQ and is easily extensible. So, using DAQ-Middleware, you are able to construct easily your own DAQ system by combining these components. As an example, we have developed a DAQ system for a CC/NET 1 using DAQ-Middleware by the addition of GUI part and CAMAC readout part. The CC/NET, the CAMAC controller was developed to accomplish high speed read-out of CAMAC data. The basic design concept of CC/NET is to realize data taking through networks. So, it is consistent with the DAQ-Middleware concept. We show how it is convenient to use DAQ-Middleware.
An in situ measurement scheme for generating supply-noise maps, which can be conducted while running applications in product-level LSIs, was developed. The design of the on-chip voltage sampling ...probe is based on a simple ring oscillator, which converts local supply difference between VDD and V SS to oscillation-frequency deviation. High measurement accuracy is achieved by off-chip digital signal processing and calibration. This scheme was used to successfully measure 69-mV local supply noise with 5-ns time resolution in a 3G-cellular-phone processor. It will thus help in designing power-supply networks and in visually verifying the quality of a power supply
The J-PARC facility, which will be ready in 2008, is being constructed to perform a number of experiments including nuclear physics, kaon decays and neutrino oscillation. The expected data ...acquisition rate ranges from 500 Hz to 10 kHz, which is significantly higher than those used in the existing small experiments at KEK. We have developed a new data acquisition system that can be used in a wide range of experiments at J-PARC. The system consists of a KEK-VME crate, a readout platform module and peripheral modules. The readout platform module is highly modularized, having four slots to install daughter cards for digitization and three PCI mezzanine card (PMC) slots for on-board data processing and other purposes. The performance of the platform module and a model setup of the data acquisition system are reported
In the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, the ROD Crate DAQ provides a complete software framework to implement data acquisition functionality at the boundary between the detector specific electronics and ...the common part of the data acquisition system. Based on a plugin mechanism, it allows selecting and using common services (like data output and data monitoring channels) and developing software to control and acquire data from detector specific modules providing the infrastructure for control, monitoring and calibration. Including also event building functionality, the ROD Crate DAQ is intended to be the main data acquisition tool for the first phase of detector commissioning. This paper presents the design, functionality and performance of the ROD Crate DAQ and its usage in the ATLAS data acquisition system and during detector tests.
Monolithic pixel devices fabricated with a silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) technology are excellent candidates to realize particle detectors of fast response and least material yet simple in fabrication. ...In our SOI pixel devices the sensitive part is the "handle" wafer, to which we examined high resistive FZ wafers of both p- and n-types together with CZ wafer of n-type. Full depletion of the FZ wafers is easily achievable for typical thicknesses of 260 to 500 μm. We thinned these devices to 100 to 50 μm. The response was evaluated with infrared and red lasers, and in a high energy beam. Irradiation to 60 Co γ was carried out to verify the radiation tolerance of the devices.

DAQ-Middleware is a software framework of network-distributed DAQ system based on Robot Technology Middleware, which is an international standard of Object Management Group (OMG) in Robotics and its ...implementation was developed by AIST. DAQ-Component is a software unit of DAQ-Middleware. Basic components have been already developed. For examples, Gatherer is a readout component, Logger is a data logging component, Monitor is an analysis component and Dispatcher, which is connected to Gatherer as input of data path and to Logger/Monitor as output of data path. DAQ operator is a special component, which controls those components by using the control/status path. The control/status path and data path as well as XML-based system configuration and XML/HTTP-based system interface are well defined in DAQ-Middleware framework. DAQ-Middleware was adopted by experiments at J-PARC while the commissioning at the first beam had been successfully carried out. The functionality of DAQ-Middleware and the status of DAQ-Middleware at J-PARC are presented.
The reaction pp -> pf (eta eta) ps has been studied at 450 GeV/c. For the first time a partial wave analysis of the centrally produced eta eta system has been performed. Signals for the f0(1500), ...f0(1710) and f2(2150) are observed and the decay branching fractions of these states are determined.
