Intrathoracic involvement with lymphomas is common and manifests lymphadenopathy as well as a wide spectrum of imaging abnormalities in the lungs. Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a ...rare extranodal subtype of large B-cell lymphoma that typically involves small blood vessels and is difficult to detect.
Using a computer-assisted search, we identified patients with histopathologically proven IVLBCL in the lungs at Mayo Clinic from 2001 through 2018. Medical records, imaging studies, and pathologic specimens were reviewed.
A total of 5 patients were diagnosed with a median age at diagnosis of 68 years (range, 44-73); 4 patients were male. The diagnosis of IVLBCL was achieved by surgical lung biopsy in 3 and at autopsy in 2. At presentation, all 5 patients had dyspnea and systemic symptoms including fever, fatigue, night sweats, and/or weight loss. Chest radiography and computed tomography (CT) failed to demonstrate the diffuse infiltrative process; positron emission tomography (PET) scan performed in 2 patients did not show fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in the lungs. Pulmonary function tests obtained in 3 patients showed reduced diffusing capacity in all; transthoracic echocardiography yielded evidence of pulmonary hypertension in 2 of 4 patients. All 3 patients diagnosed antemortem underwent chemotherapy with 1 patient remaining alive at 4 years after diagnosis.
IVLBCL is difficult to diagnose given variable and nonspecific clinical presentations. Microvascular disease processes such as IVLBCL should be kept in mind in cases of undiagnosed progressive dyspnea accompanied by systemic symptoms even when imaging studies are unrevealing.

Context.—
Studies of lungs in patients with COVID-19 have focused on early findings.
Objective.—
To systematically study histopathologic and imaging features and presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in lung ...tissue from patients in later stages of COVID-19.
Design.—
Autopsies, explants, surgical lung biopsies, transbronchial biopsies, cryobiopsies, and needle biopsies from patients with COVID-19 whose onset of symptoms/confirmed diagnosis was more than 28 days before the procedure were studied. Available images were reviewed. Reverse transcription droplet digital polymerase chain reaction for SARS-CoV-2 RNA was performed on lung tissue.
Results.—
Of 44 specimens (43 patients; median age, 59.3 years; 26 60.5% male) features of acute lung injury (ALI) were seen in 39 (88.6%), predominantly organizing pneumonia and diffuse alveolar damage, up to 298 days after onset of COVID-19. Fibrotic changes were found in 33 specimens (75%), most commonly fibrotic diffuse alveolar damage (n = 22) and cicatricial organizing pneumonia (n = 12). Time between acquiring COVID-19 and specimen was shorter in patients with diffuse ALI (median, 61.5 days) compared with patients with focal (140 days) or no ALI (130 days) (P = .009). Sixteen (of 20; 80%) SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcription droplet digital polymerase chain reaction tests were positive, up to 174 days after COVID-19 onset. Time between COVID-19 onset and most recent computed tomography in patients with consolidation on imaging was shorter (median, 43.0 days) versus in patients without consolidation (87.5 days; P = .02). Reticulations were associated with longer time to computed tomography after COVID-19 onset (median, 82 versus 23.5 days; P = .006).
Conclusions.—
ALI and SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be detected in patients with COVID-19 for many months. ALI may evolve into fibrotic interstitial lung disease.

In addition to pneumonia and respiratory failure, thromboembolic events (sometimes clinically unsuspected at death) are common, according to a 12-case autopsy series from Germany.4 In addition, ...clinical studies have reported acquired coagulopathy in patients with COVID-19,5–7 and a paediatric inflammatory syndrome linked to SARS-CoV-2 can also cause life-threatening cardiac issues.8 Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) has been identified as a functional receptor for SARS-CoV-2, allowing entry of the virus into host cells.9 ACE2 is normally highly expressed in the lung, heart, ileum, kidney, and bladder. ...the additional unusual findings could be attributable to COVID-19. Adding to this theory, some patients with COVID-19 present with ischaemic stroke11 or deep vein thrombosis.4 Despite these compelling findings, it is difficult to tease out the causal relationship among disseminated intravascular coagulation, diffuse alveolar damage, and pulmonary thrombotic microangiopathy.
The ruthenium hydride complex (PCy3)2(CO)RuHCl was found to be a highly effective catalyst for the regio- and stereoselective hydrosilylation of alkynes to form vinylsilane products. (Z)-Vinylsilane ...products were selectively formed for sterically nondemanding terminal alkynes, while (E)-vinylsilane products resulted from sterically demanding terminal alkynes. Kinetic data were obtained from the hydrosilylation of phenylacetylene. The phosphine inhibition study showed an uncompetitive Michaelis–Menten type of inhibition kinetics. The empirical rate law rate = k obs11alkyne0silane0 was established from the reaction rate as a function of both alkyne and silane. DFT calculations were performed and found that Z/E isomerization is facile via a metallacyclopropene transition state and that the isomerization occurs prior to the silane substrate binding. A detailed mechanistic scheme on the hydrosilylation reaction has been delineated on the basis of both experimental and computational data.
Immunoglobulin (Ig) G4-related disease (also known as 'IgG4-related sclerosing disease', 'IgG4-related systemic disease' or 'hyper-IgG4-disease') is a recently recognized systemic fibroinflammatory ...disease associated with IgG4-positive plasma cells in tissue lesions. IgG4-related disease was initially described as autoimmune pancreatitis, but it is now known to affect virtually any organ. The authors describe a patient presenting with multi-organ manifestations, including airway inflammation mimicking asthma, pulmonary parenchymal infiltrates, intrathoracic lymphadenopathy, submandibular gland swelling and a kidney mass.
The aim of this retrospective case study was to evaluate the role of transcatheter arterial embolisation in the management of delayed postpartum haemorrhage due to pseudoaneurysm leakage, and present ...the angiographic findings with multidetector computed tomography (CT) along angiography as a diagnostic tool. Delayed postpartum haemorrhage due to pseudoaneurysm leakage was diagnosed in eight patients at our institution between October 2006 and June 2010. The mean patient age was 31.0 years and the mean parity, 2.0. Bilateral uterine arterial embolisation was performed in all patients. No additional embolisation sessions or hysterectomies were performed. Multidetector computed tomography with angiography helped to demonstrate the location and originating vessels of the pseudoaneurysm via fast and clear 3D images. Transcatheter uterine arterial embolisation is an option in haemodynamically stable patients, and it appears to be the treatment of choice.
In February 2011, a mother and her child from Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, were diagnosed, postmortem, with avian influenza A(H5N1) virus infection. A field investigation was conducted by ...teams from the Cambodian Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization and the Institut Pasteur in Cambodia. Nasopharyngeal, throat and serum specimens collected from 11 household or three neighbour contacts including two suspect cases tested negative by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for A(H5N1). Follow-up sera from the 11 household contacts also tested negative for A(H5N1) antibodies. Twenty-six HCW who were exposed to the cases without taking adequate personal protective measures self-monitored and none developed symptoms within the two following weeks. An unknown number of passengers travelling with the cases on a minibus while they were symptomatic could not be traced but no clusters of severe respiratory illnesses were detected through the Cambodian surveillance systems in the two weeks after that. The likely cause of the fatal infection in the mother and the child was common-source exposure in Preah Sdach District, Prey Veng Province. Human-to-human transmission of A(H5N1) virus was unlikely but genetic susceptibility is suspected. Clusters of A(H5N1) virus infection should be systematically investigated to rule out any human-to-human transmission.
Atmospheric simulation chambers continue to be indispensable tools for research in the atmospheric sciences. Insights from chamber studies are integrated into atmospheric chemical transport models, ...which are used for science-informed policy decisions. However, a centralized data management and access infrastructure for their scientific products had not been available in the United States and many parts of the world. ICARUS (Integrated Chamber Atmospheric data Repository for Unified Science) is an open access, searchable, web-based infrastructure for storing, sharing, discovering, and utilizing atmospheric chamber data https://icarus.ucdavis.edu. ICARUS has two parts: a data intake portal and a search and discovery portal. Data in ICARUS are curated, uniform, interactive, indexed on popular search engines, mirrored by other repositories, version-tracked, vocabulary-controlled, and citable. ICARUS hosts both legacy data and new data in compliance with open access data mandates. Targeted data discovery is available based on key experimental parameters, including organic reactants and mixtures that are managed using the PubChem chemical database, oxidant information, nitrogen oxide (NOx) content, alkylperoxy radical (RO2) fate, seed particle information, environmental conditions, and reaction categories. A discipline-specific repository such as ICARUS with high amounts of metadata works to support the evaluation and revision of atmospheric model mechanisms, intercomparison of data and models, and the development of new model frameworks that can have more predictive power in the current and future atmosphere. The open accessibility and interactive nature of ICARUS data may also be useful for teaching, data mining, and training machine learning models.
In northern China, environmental changes in the transitional zone from the sandy desert to the loess plateau have been regarded as an important issue in the understanding of climate changes and the ...remains of hominin activities found in this zone provide a solid line of evidence to support the reconstruction of environmental conditions during the late Pleistocene. In 2006, many stone artifacts were collected on the surface in the southeastern Tengger Desert, Northern China. The Tengger lithic assemblage is correlated to the Late Middle to Early Upper Paleolithic stage and with the typical and extensively investigated Shuidonggou site some 140 km north–east of the Tengger localities. In order to evaluate both the age and the environmental conditions prevailing during human occupation despite the lack of associated stratigraphies, we have tried to place the Tengger localities into the Late Pleistocene climatic framework using the available published data provided by Mu Us Desert sand–loess sections and records of Tengger paleolake levels, respectively eastwards and westwards from the newly discovered localities. Additionally, an unpublished sand–loess section was studied by optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) near Zhongwei city, around 170 km to the south. All the data suggests that the optimal time for hominin activity in the Tengger Desert would have been from 42 to 22 ka, during a period of relatively humid conditions when the climate of the area was governed by the strengthened summer East Asian monsoon.
