Bioassay-guided fractionation of an ethanolic extract of Ochrosia borbonica led to the isolation of two known pyridocarbazole alkaloids, ellipticine (1) and 9-methoxyellipticine (2), and six known ...monoterpenoid indole alkaloids (3–8). Lipid-lowering assay in 3T3-L1 cell model revealed that 1 and 2 could significantly inhibit the lipid droplet formation (EC50 = 0.41 and 0.92 μmol·L−1, respectively) and lower triglyceride levels by 50%–60% at the concentration of 1 μmol·L−1, being more potent than the positive drug luteolin (EC50 = 2.63 μmol·L−1). A mechanistic study indicated that 1 and 2 could intercalate into supercoiled DNA, which consequently inhibited the mitotic clonal expansion of 3T3-L1 cells at the early differentiation phase, leading to the retardance of following adipogenesis and lipogenesis. These findings suggest that 1 and 2 may serve as promising leads for further development of anti-obesity drugs.
To the Editor:A 35-year-old man who smoked for 15 years suffered from chest pain 12 days ago before admission. He was diagnosed as myocardial infarction.Thrombolytic therapy was given consequently. The ...electrocardiogram showed sub-acute inferior wall myocardial infarction.Echocardiogram showed attenuated constriction of the inferior wall with an ejection fraction of 59%.On September 5,2013,he was treated with a XINSORB scaffold in right coronary artery (RCA).
Five new diterpenes, trigonochinenes A−E (1−5), and two known ones, 3,4-seco-sonderianol (6) and 3,4-seco-sonderianic acid (7), were isolated from the aerial part of Trigonostemon chinensis. ...Compounds 1−4 possess a rare 3,4-seco-cleistanthanic skeleton, and compound 5 is a highly aromatized tetranorditerpene. Structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. The antimicrobial activities of compounds 1−7 were evaluated against a panel of bacteria and fungi.
Electrochemistry assisted reacting deposition method was employed to prepare porous chitosan/hydroxyapatite (CS/HA) composite scaffold with a new design device using ion exchange membranes to ...separate calcium salt and phosphate solutions. The results determined from XRD and SEM indicates hydroxyapatite can be electrochemically deposited in the chitosan scaffold using the device. After electrochemistry assisted reacting deposition, the surface of the chitosan scaffold was coated with low crystalline HA, particularly at the frame edge of the scaffold. The pores in the scaffold still kept interconnected well and the deposited hydroxyapatite has a cluster microsphere shape whose size is about 3–5 μm.
Indigo, an economically important dye, could be biosynthesized from indole by catalysis of the styrene monooxygenase StyAB. To enhance indigo biosynthesis, the styAB gene and its transcription ...regulator gene styS/styR in styrene catabolism were cloned from Pseudomonas putida and coexpressed in Escherichia coli. The presence of the intact regulator gene styS/styR dramatically increased the transcriptional levels of styA and styB by approximately 120-fold in the recombinant strain SRAB2 with coexpression of styS/styR and styAB compared to the control strain ABST with solo expression of styAB. A yield of 67.6 mg/L indigo was detected in strain SRAB2 after 24 h of fermentation with 120 μg/mL indole, which was approximately 14-fold higher than that in the control strain ABST. The maximum yield of indigo was produced from 160 μg/mL indole in fermentation of strain SRAB2. However, the addition of styrene to the media significantly inhibited the transcription of styA and styB and consequent indigo biosynthesis in recombinant E. coli strains. Furthermore, the substitution of indole with tryptophan as the fermentation substrate remarkably boosted indigo production, and the maximal yield of 565.6 mg/L was detected in strain SRAB2 in fermentation with 1.2 mg/mL tryptophan. The results revealed that the regulation of styAB transcription by the two-component regulator StyS/StyR in styrene catabolism in P. putida was effective in E. coli, which provided a new strategy for the development of engineered E. coli strains with the capacity for highly efficient indigo production.
This article investigates finite-time stabilization of competitive neural networks with discrete time-varying delays (DCNNs). By virtue of comparison strategies and inequality techniques, finite-time ...stabilization of the underlying DCNNs is analyzed by designing a discontinuous state feedback controller, which simplifies the controller design and proof processes of some existing results. Meanwhile, global exponential stabilization of the DCNNs is provided under a continuous state feedback controller. In addition, global exponential stability of the DCNNs is shown as an M-matrix, which contains some published outcomes as special cases. Finally, three examples are given to illuminate the validity of the theories.
Abstract
This meta-analysis was conducted to assess the association of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) T869C, C509T, G915C gene polymorphism with the risk of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). The ...association literatures were identified from PubMed, Cochrane Library up to October 1, 2013, and eligible reports were recruited and synthesized. Five reports were recruited into this meta-analysis for the association of TGF-β1 T869C, C509T, G915C gene polymorphism with IgAN risk. In this meta-analysis, the association of TGF-β1 T869C, C509T, G915C gene polymorphism with IgAN risk was not found. In conclusion, TGF-β1 T869C, C509T, G915C gene polymorphism is not associated with the IgAN risk. However, more studies should be performed in the future to confirm this association.

Based on the data deriving from 2008 to 2011 observed in the field, by using regression analysis, the relationship between rainfall and canopy interception of Pinus tabulaeformis plantation planted ...in the Loess Plateau was analyzed, and the regression parameters of the model were studied by the method of bootstrap. The results showed that both of the relationships could be analyzed bythe nonlinear model I = a Pb, which could be exactly expressed by I = 0.584 P 0.576. This model not only had high fitting accuracy, but also the fitting parameters had good stability. The model could meet the requirement for significance, so it is feasible to be applied for the study areas.
Chemical investigation of the South China Sea soft coral Sarcophyton solidum has led to the isolation of one new (1) and seven known (2–8) diterpenoids, including three sarsolenanes (1–3), two ...capnosanes (4 and 5), and three cembranes (6–8). Sarsolilide B (4) was firstly confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1, 3, 4, and 6–8 were isolated from S. solidum for the first time, and 1, 2, and 4–7 were considered as the chemotaxonomic markers for the species S. solidum.

In order to establish the proper model of the litter interception, based on the data deriving from 2008 to 2011, by using regression analysis, the relationship between rainfall(throughfall) and ...litter interception of Pinus tabulaeformis plantation on the semi-arid Loess Plateau was analyzed, and the regression parameters of the model were determined by Bootstrap. The results showed that both throughfall and litter interception could be analyzed by the nonlinear model Ic=a Pb, which could be exactly presented as Ic= 0.49 9P0.627 and Ic= 0.717TF0.513. This model has high fitting accuracy, and the fitting parameters have good stability. The model could meet the requirement for significance.
