Pain is one of the most common and feared symptoms among cancer patients. Unrelieved pain denies patients comfort and greatly affects their overall quality of life. Moxibustion is commonly used to ...manage chronic pain. However, its efficacy on cancer pain remains inconclusive. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of moxibustion for cancer pain.
We searched seven databases to obtain articles about moxibustion combined with pharmacotherapy for cancer pain published before November 2022. All data extraction was carried out independently by two investigators. RevMan 5.4 software was used for data analysis.
A total of ten trials involving 999 cases were included. The results of the meta-analysis revealed that moxibustion combined with pharmacotherapy was significantly better than drug therapy alone in improving pain relief rate (RR =1.16, 95% CI = 1.04, 1.30,
= 0.01), reducing pain scores (SMD = -1.43, 95% CI = -2.09, -0.77,
< 0.0001), Shortening the onset of analgesia (MD = -12.07, 95% CI = -12.91, -11.22,
< 0.00001), prolonging the duration of analgesia (MD = 3.69, 95% CI = 3.21, 4.18,
< 0.00001), and improving quality of life (SMD = 2.48, 95% CI = 0.67, 4.29,
= 0.007). In addition, moxibustion combined with pharmacotherapy can effectively reduce adverse reactions of drugs (RR =0.35, 95% CI = 0.21, 0.57,
< 0.0001).
The evidence in this review supports moxibustion as an effective adjuvant therapy for cancer pain management. However, high-quality RCTs are needed to further confirm these findings.

Securing resources against unauthorized access and/or use is a major concern of every organization that uses computer networks. To protect internal networks from external attacks, firewalls are ...utilized since they restrict network access while letting legitimate users have unencumbered access. Firewalls are also used to log security auditing information about connections and operations. We describe a monitor database gateway (MDBG) designed and implemented to replace older forms of firewall logging by a database system. SQL commands can be used to retrieve logged information instead of ad hoc scripts. The database application al- lows secure access from other components of a firewall through the Ker- beros authentication as well as other authentication methods. If the underlying database changes, only a small portion of the MDBG must be modified; the code for the other components of the firewall remains un- affected.
In this study, the Weather Research and Forecasting model was used to simulate the diurnal variation in summer precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) at a cloud-resolving scale. Compared with ...the TRMM, precipitation data shows that the model can well simulate the diurnal rainfall cycle with an overall late-afternoon maximum precipitation in the central TP and a nighttime maximum in the southern edge. The simulated diurnal variations in regional circulation and thermodynamics are in good correspondence with the precipitation diurnal cycles in the central and southern edge of TP, respectively. A possible mechanism responsible for the nocturnal precipitation maximum in the southern edge has been proposed, indicating the importance of the TP in regulating the regional circulation and precipitation.
This study presents a novel multimodal heterogeneous perception cross-fusion framework for intelligent vehicles that combines data from millimeter-wave radar and camera to enhance target tracking ...accuracy and handle system uncertainties. The framework employs a multimodal interaction strategy to predict target motion more accurately and an improved joint probability data association method to match measurement data with targets. An adaptive root-mean-square cubature Kalman filter is used to estimate the statistical characteristics of noise under complex traffic scenarios with varying process and measurement noise. Experiments conducted on a real vehicle platform demonstrate that the proposed framework improves reliability and robustness in challenging environments. It overcomes the challenges of insufficient data fusion utilization, frequent leakage, and misjudgment of dangerous obstructions around vehicles, and inaccurate prediction of collision risks. The proposed framework has the potential to advance the state of the art in target tracking and perception for intelligent vehicles.
Berberine, an isoquinoline alkaloid isolated from the Chinese herb Coptis chinensis and other Berberis plants, has a wide range of pharmacological properties. Berberine can be used to treat many ...diseases, such as cancer and digestive, metabolic, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases. Berberine has protective capacities in digestive diseases. It can inhibit toxins and bacteria, including Helicobacter pylori, protect the intestinal epithelial barrier from injury, and ameliorate liver injury. Berberine also inhibits the proliferation of various types of cancer cells and impedes invasion and metastasis. Recent evidence has confirmed that berberine improves the efficacy and safety of chemoradiotherapies. In addition, berberine regulates glycometabolism and lipid metabolism, improves energy expenditure, reduces body weight, and alleviates nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Berberine also improves cardiovascular hemodynamics, suppresses ischemic arrhythmias, attenuates the development of atherosclerosis, and reduces hypertension. Berberine shows potent neuroprotective effects, including antioxidative, antiapoptotic, and anti-ischemic. Furthermore, berberine exerts protective effects against other diseases. The mechanisms of its functions have been extensively explored, but much remains to be clarified. This article summarizes the main pharmacological actions of berberine and its mechanisms in cancer and digestive, metabolic, cardiovascular, and neurological diseases.
East Asian marginal seas surrounding China exhibit rich ocean upwelling, mostly in response to the southwesterly summer monsoon. Upwelling in the China seas, namely, the South China Sea, the Taiwan ...Strait, the East China Sea, the Yellow Sea, and the Bohai Sea, has become increasingly important because the potential changes in the upwelling may have dramatic ecosystem, socioeconomic, and climate impacts. This paper reviews the progress of upwelling studies in the China seas since the year 2000, by presenting the principal characteristics and new understanding of 12 major upwelling regions in the China seas. Upwelling exhibits long‐term variability at intraseasonal to multidecadal scales as well as short‐term variability frequently caused by tropical cyclones. It is also associated with the El Niño–Southern Oscillation, local environmental variation, and biogeochemical factors. The coastal upwelling around Hainan Island and the upwelling or cold dome northeast of Taiwan Island are specifically highlighted because they have attracted great interest for decades. This paper summarizes upwelling mechanisms in terms of wind, topography, tide, stratification, and background flow, with applications mostly to the China seas. Finally, we propose some topics for future upwelling research, i.e., potential intensification of coastal upwelling under global climate change, downwelling, intrusion of upwelling into coastal embayments, and the influence of upwelling on fishery and biogeochemical processes.

•The complex network approach is adopted to investigate how the language models organize the various elements within a language system.•Similar to complex networks in other domains, most of words’ ...attention networks generated by the attention heads in BERT models exhibit small-world property and scale-free behavior.•Some networks produced by multilingual BERT effectively capture language typological information.•The networks generated by english BERT are generally denser compared to those of Chinese BERT. It could suggest that english BERT are more adept at organizing words and transmitting information.
Pre-trained language models has advanced the fields of natural language processing. The exceptional capabilities exhibited by PLMs in NLP tasks have been attracting researchers to explore the underlying factors responsible for their success. However, most of work primarily focus on studying some certain linguistic knowledge encoded in PLMs, rather than investigating how these models comprehend language from a holistic perspective. Furthermore, they cannot point out how PLMs organize the whole language system. Therefore, we adopt the complex network approach to represent the language system, and investigate how language elements are organized within the system. Specifically, we take the attention relationships among words as the research object, which are generated by attention heads within BERT models. Then, the words are treated as nodes, and the connections between words and their most-attending words are represented as edges. After obtaining these "words' attention networks", we analyze the network properties from various perspectives by calculating the network metrics. Many constructive conclusions are summarized, including: (1) The English attention networks demonstrate exceptional performance in organizing words; (2) Most words’ attention networks exhibit small-world property and scale-free behavior; (3) Some networks generated by multilingual BERT can reflect typological information well, achieving preferable clustering performance among language groups; (4) In cross-layer analysis, the networks from 8 to 10 layers in Chinese BERT and from 6 to 9 layers in English BERT exhibit more consistent characteristics. Our study provides a comprehensive explanation of how PLMs organize language systems, which can be utilized to evaluate and develop improved models.
