ZnO nanoparticles have been effectively used in water disinfection from two common types of gram-positive (Enterococcus faecium) and gram–negative (Proteus mirabilis) bacteria under simulated solar radiations by inactivation. Complete mineralization of organic contents that leach out of inactivated bacteria has also been achieved leaving no soluble organic matter in water. Bacterial inactivation and complete mineralization have been confirmed by plate counting, high performance liquid chromatography and total organic content measurement. Effects of different reaction parameters (pH, temperature, bacterial concentration, reaction time and ZnO catalyst loading) have all been studied. Control experiments with Cut-off filters confirm the role of the UV tail in solar simulated light in the photocatalytic process. The results highlight the feasibility of using ZnO photocatalyst in complete disinfection of water from both hazardous Enterococcus and Proteus mirabilis bacteria, leaving no organic matters after degradation.
Up to the present date, according to the official reports of the World Health Organization (WHO), 205,338,159 patients have been confirmed with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and 4,333,094 have ...died as a consequence of this infectious disorder. The majority of COVID-19 patients will develop hematological, biochemical, immunological, hormonal and other complex alterations of their laboratory data which may be diagnosed using different biomarkers. In this paper, we review the alterations of the hematology, immunology, biochemistry, hormonal and other laboratory panels discovered in the subjects diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection, based on the available data in the literature.
Educational interventions targeting health care professionals can contribute to improving knowledge and behaviors of antimicrobial agents prescribing. However, the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak ...caused a disruption of the current practices and treatment guidelines. Therefore, it is highly likely that the pandemic had its disruptive effect on any educational interventions that were going on during the outbreak. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention in improving antimicrobial agents prescribing.
This was a randomized controlled study that included 69 resident physicians in a teaching hospital. The intervention group received an educational intervention focusing on antimicrobial agents prescribing and resistance. Before and after the intervention, outpatient antimicrobial agents prescribing rates for the two study arms were compared for the pre- and post-intervention periods. Additionally, all participants were asked to complete an online questionnaire that measured their knowledge, attitudes and behavioral intention towards antimicrobial agents resistance and prescription. The post-intervention period included the months of February, March, and June 2020. April and May were excluded from the study period since clinics were closed due to the COVID -19 pandemic.
Post-intervention, the rate of antimicrobial agents prescribing by the intervention group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p < 0.001). Mean fear score for the intervention group was significantly lower than that for the control group after the intervention.
Findings indicate failure of the educational intervention in improving antimicrobial agents prescribing. However, an unexpected counter effect of the COVID-19 outbreak is highly likely.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the backbone of the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry. BIM is the collection of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), ...interacting policies, and procedures. BIM generates a methodology to manage the project data in digital format throughout the building's life-cycle. Despite the numerous benefits and features of BIM, its proliferation remains limited and facing adoption issues. Although many existing studies discussed BIM adoption from contextual lenses, discipline-focused, there is still a scarcity of a comprehensive overview of technology adoption models and frameworks in BIM research. The purpose of this Systemic Literature Review (SLR) is to evaluate the current status of BIM adoption, technology acceptance theories, models used and find the research challenges. Furthermore, to identify the roles of independent constructs, dependent construct, moderators, and mediators in BIM adoption research. Also, the findings provide an in-depth description of the different stages of BIM adoption. Finally, this SLR will help the researchers for further research in the field of BIM adoption.
