Novel dandelion-like Co3O4 mesoporous nanostructures, supported by a Cu foam, are prepared by a combination of hydrothermal synthesis and annealing. The resulting Co3O4@Cu foam exhibits superior ...oxygen evolution (Tafel slope = 42.8 mV dec−1) and lithium storage (capacity = 882 mA h g−1@2C after 100 cycles, 1C = 890 mA g−1) properties, which highlight its great promise in the fields of energy storage and conversion.
Objective
A megacava (vena cava with a diameter of 28 mm or greater) requires a particular filter to avoid migration. However, caval morphologies are variable. As the inferior vena cava (IVC) usually ...adopts a circular geometry after a filter is inserted, this study aims (a) to classify caval geometry and orientation; (b) to compare discrepancy between anterioposterior projective diameter (PD) and circumference-based calculated diameter (CD) measurements on cross-sectional computed tomography (CT) images; (c) if a discrepancy exists, determine how often it can affect IVC filter selection.
Methods
A total of 1503 patients were retrospectively reviewed. Caval morphology was classified. PD and CD were measured at infrarenal IVC. Differences between the PD and CD were assessed by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test or paired
t
test (if appropriate). The scatterplot of PD vs. CD was used to show whether one is consistently larger than the other.
Results
The PD was significantly larger than the CD (22.3 ± 3.5 vs. 20.4 ± 2.8,
p
< 0.001). The caval morphologies were divided into five types. Type 1 was oval IVC oriented left-anterior-oblique to the horizontal line with an angle (
n
= 999, 66.5%), type 2 was round IVC (
n
= 49, 3.3%), type 3 was oval IVC with a vertical long axis (
n
= 8, 0.5%), type 4 was oval IVC with a horizontal long axis (
n
= 75, 5.0%), and type 5 was irregularly shaped IVC (
n
= 372, 24.7%).
Conclusion
Patients with round IVC are rare. Measurement of CD may be better to assess maximum IVC diameter compared with PD for the purpose of IVC filter placement.
Key Points
• Five types of IVC orientation are described in this paper: type 1 (n = 999, 66.5%), type 2 (n = 49, 3.3%), type 3 (n = 8, 0.5%), type 4 (n = 75, 5.0%), and type 5 (n = 372, 24.7%).
• The incidence of megacava (vena cava with a diameter of 28 mm or greater) measured on anterioposterior projective imaging may be overestimated.
• As an IVC will adopt a circular geometry following filter placement, circumference-based calculated diameter may be an appropriate approach for caval size determination.
•SOC maps of China were updated to the 2010s.•A new ensemble model was proposed to selectively fuse the predictions.•An evaluation was performed regarding pedoclimatic zones.•The proposed model ...explained 40–57% of the variation in topsoil SOC (<30 cm).•The accuracy of the soil maps was generally enhanced by 12.6%.
Up-to-date maps of soil organic carbon (SOC) concentrations can provide vital information for monitoring global or regional soil C changes and soil quality. In this study, a national soil dataset collected in the 2010 s was applied to produce SOC maps of mainland China at soil depths of 0–5 cm, 5–15 cm, 15–30 cm, 30–60 cm, 60–100 cm and 100–200 cm. A stacking ensemble learning framework was utilized to take advantage of the optimal predictions from individual models. A voting-based ensemble learning model (VELM) was proposed with consideration of pedoclimatic zones. In this model, three machine learning models were separately trained for every pedoclimatic zone, and their predictions were selectively merged together. A weighted ensemble learning model (WELM), in which the parameterization considered all zones (i.e., the whole study area) simultaneously, was also trained for comparison. The overall R2 values of these two methods ranged from 0.16 to 0.57 and decreased with depth. Based on the independent validation, the R2 values ranged from 0.41 to 0.57 in the topsoil (0–5 cm, 5–15 cm and 15–30 cm). Overall accuracy metrics implied that the VELM and WELM yielded nearly the same prediction performances. However, model validation in the pedoclimatic zones showed that the VELM obviously outperformed the WELM, with the VELM generally improving the accuracy by 12.6%. Based on the independent validation, we also compared our predictions with other soil map products. Although the spatial patterns were similar, the predicted SOC maps outperformed two other products. The comparison of the two ensemble models should serve as a reminder that if new national or regional soil maps are generated, validation based on pedoclimatic zones or other soil-landscape units may be necessary before applying these maps.
The research on the deviations caused by different resolutions is relevant to the study of spatial scale effects. In 2018, spatial interpolations were performed using the removal ratios of the TN, ...NH4‐N, and NO3‐N of the layers of different resolutions, respectively. Based on the mean and the standard deviation, the area, shape, and position were obtained for four levels related to the removal ratios of the three nitrogen forms. The linear and 6th function fitting methods were used to reveal the differences in nitrogen removal in wetland water at different spatial resolutions. The results showed that a resolution of 25 times the original was the key scale of the spatial effects. Due to the fact that 52 of the 72 functions did not reach a significant level (P < 0.05), the spatial scale effect of the nitrogen removal was mainly characterized by disorderly fluctuations. The results have a certain extrapolation value for the analysis of spatial scale effects.
Practitioner Points
The resolution difference was not sufficient to change the spatial pattern of the geographic phenomena.
The resolution of 25 times the original was the important scale for determining spatial effects.
When studying the spatial scale effects caused by differences in resolution, it was necessary to comprehensively consider various resolutions.

The prevalence of infertility caused by endometrial defects is steadily increasing, posing a significant challenge to women's reproductive health. In this study, injectable “homing‐like” bioactive ...decellularized extracellular matrix short‐fibers (DEFs) of porcine skin origin are innovatively designed for endometrial and fertility restoration. The DEFs can effectively bind to endometrial cells through noncovalent dipole interactions and release bioactive growth factors in situ. In vitro, the DEFs effectively attracted endometrial cells through the “homing‐like” effect, enabling cell adhesion, spreading, and proliferation on their surface. Furthermore, the DEFs effectively facilitated the proliferation and angiogenesis of human primary endometrial stromal cells (HESCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), and inhibited fibrosis of pretreated HESCs. In vivo, the DEFs significantly accelerated endometrial restoration, angiogenesis, and receptivity. Notably, the deposition of endometrial collagen decreased from 41.19 ± 2.16% to 14.15 ± 1.70% with DEFs treatment. Most importantly, in endometrium‐injured rats, the use of DEFs increased the live birth rate from 30% to an impressive 90%, and the number and development of live births close to normal rats. The injectable “homing‐like” bioactive DEFs system can achieve efficient live births and intrauterine injection of DEFs provides a new promising clinical strategy for endometrial factor infertility.

Punicalagin has been found to exert cardiac protective effects against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury, although the detailed mechanisms remain largely unknown. This experiment was ...performed to explore the potential involvement of silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1)-NFE2-related factor 2 (NRF-2)-heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) pathway in the cardiac protective actions of punicalagin. Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were subjected to MI/R operation with or without punicalagin treatment (40 mg kg−1d−1). We showed that punicalagin-treated group exhibited enhanced cardiac function, reduced myocardial infarction and decreased cleaved caspase-3 level. Furthermore, myocardial oxidative/nitrosative stress was ameliorated by punicalagin as evidenced by suppressed superoxide generation, gp91phox and iNOS expressions, NO metabolites as well as myocardial nitrotyrosine level. Additionally, punicalagin decreased myocardial IL-6, TNF-α and the levels of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and IKK-β expressions as well as IκB-α phosphorylation and NF-κB nuclear translocation. However, these effects were abolished by EX527 (5 mg kg−1d−1, a selective SIRT1 inhibitor). We further found that punicalagin dose-dependently enhanced SIRT1 nuclear distribution and NRF-2-HO-1 signaling. While EX527 treatment not only reduced SIRT1 activity, but also reversed the activation of NRF-2-HO-1 pathway. Collectively, these results revealed that punicalagin reduced cardiac oxidative/nitrosative stress and inflammatory response induced by MI/R operation through SIRT1-mediated activation of NRF-2-HO-1 signaling.

Highly crystalline γ-zirconium phosphate has been synthesized by a novel minimalistic approach and investigated as a selective ion exchanger for cesium, ammonium and potassium. In contrast to current ...solution-based preparations, the mechanochemistry-based synthesis provides easy access to γ-zirconium phosphate with short synthesis times and low crystallization temperature. The addition of NaF as a mineralizer increases the crystallinity of γ-zirconium phosphate, which forms micrometer-sized uniformly shaped rectangular platelets. The crystalline material has extremely high selectivity to cesium even in the presence of 1000- or 500-fold excess Na+ or Ca2+, respectively. The removal efficiency was >98% in the pH range of 2–5.5. As an ion exchanger for purification of dialysate, crystalline γ-zirconium phosphate shows higher uptake of ammonium and potassium ions than the amorphous gel compound currently used in sorbent cartridges. This sustainable protocol opens up opportunities for many practical applications of γ-zirconium phosphate.
Background
Waist circumference can be used as an anthropometric measure to assess central obesity and is easier and more convenient than the waist-to-hip ratio in identifying the risk of obesity and ...medical problems. Most studies showing an association between obesity and infertility in women have used BMI to measure obesity. Our goal was to examine any potential association between waist circumference and infertility.
Methods
This cross-sectional study, which formed part of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), comprised women ages 18 to 45 between 2017 and 2020. Participants without waist circumference data or information on infertility were removed from the study. The independent relationship between waist circumference and infertility was investigated using weighted binary logistic regression and subgroup analysis.
Results
We investigated 1509 participants and discovered that the prevalence of infertility rose as the WC trisection rose. (tertile 1, 7.55%; tertile 2, 10.56%; tertile 3, 15.28%; trend < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression showed that after total adjustment, higher WC levels were associated with an increased likelihood of infertility in women (OR1.02; 95% CI 1.01-1.03), and There was a 2% rise in the incidence of infertility for every unit (cm) increased WC. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests showed no significant dependence of the effects of marital status, diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol on the association between WC and infertility (
p
for all interaction tests > 0.05). The inflection point of the positive non-linear relationship between WC and infertility was 116.6 cm.
Conclusion
Excessive waist circumference assessment may increase the probability of infertility, and more attention should be paid to the management of waist circumference should be given more attention.
A 56‐day feeding try was conducted to evaluate the effects of processed garlic known as black garlic (BG) fed at different inclusion levels (0 (BG0, control), 5 (BG0.5), 10 (BG1), 20 (BG2), 40 (BG4), ...and 80 (BG8) g/kg feed) on the growth, whole body composition, immune and antioxidant enzyme activities, gut microbiota and resistance to Vibrio parahaemolyticus infections in Litopenaeus vannamei (initial weight = 0.60 ± 0.001 g). The results revealed a significant improvement (p < .05) in the final weight, weight gain rate, specific growth weight, condition factor, protein efficiency ratio, survival rate, hepatosomatic index, and feed conversion ratio in the BG‐treated‐groups compared to the untreated. Correspondingly, the whole body proximate composition, immune, and antioxidant enzyme activities significantly improved in the treated groups than the untreated. Dietary BG had shaped the gut microbiota by significantly increasing (p < .05) the abundance of Phylobacterium, Ruegeria, and Pseudoalteromonas genera and decreasing (p < .05) the abundance of Vibrio genus than the control. Disease test with V. parahaemolyticus revealed significantly high (p < .05) resistance in the BG‐teated‐groups than the untreated. The BG8, BG4, BG2, BG1, and BG0.5‐treated groups respectively showed 72.1%, 62.8%, 55.8%, 41.9%, and 25.6% relative percentage survival. Dietary BG inclusion at 8% or at 80 g/kg feed could help improve shrimp growth and health.

Abstract
Spin transport properties of single rhenium phthalocyanine (RePc) and double-rhenium phthalocyanine (Re

) molecular devices with gold electrodes have been investigated by combining ...Density Functional theory and nonequilibrium Green’s functions. It was found that the RePc molecular devices exhibited good spin filtration efficiency in the small bias range even in the absence of magnetic electrodes. The Re

molecular device exhibited a large magnetoresistance and excellent spin-filtering properties at a finite bias, which can only be achieved by altering the magnetization orientation of the rhenium atom at the center of the phthalocyanine molecule. These conclusions of the rhenium phthalocyanine molecule may have potential application in magnetoresistive devices and spin filters.
