We experimentally demonstrate transverse load and strain sensing based on a fiber optic Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) with special air cavity, which was created by fusion splicing single mode ...fiber (SMF), hollow core fiber (HCF) and several electrical arc discharges. The cavity height of this structure is higher than the cladding diameter of SMF so that it can sense transverse load with high sensitivity. The transverse load sensitivity of this air cavity FPI sensor is 1.31 nm∕N and about 5 times more sensitive compared to the current fiber tip interferometer (0.2526 nm∕N). Meanwhile, this sensor also can measure strain and the strain sensitivity of 3.29 pm∕με is achieved. In addition, the low temperature sensitivity (1.08 pm/°C) of the sensor can reduce the temperature-induced measurement error. This novel air cavity FPI can be developed and used as high-sensitivity transverse load and strain sensor with temperature-insensitive.
We report a novel fiber-optic hybrid-structured Fabry-Perot interferometer (HSFPI) based on large lateral offset splicing for simultaneous measurement of strain and temperature with advantages of ...high sensitivity, low cost, and easy fabrication. The high-strain sensitivity of 28.95 pm/με and low-temperature sensitivity of 0.54 pm/°C are obtained for air cavity, and strain sensitivity of 28.95 pm/με is over five times compared to the current HSFPI (5.18 pm/με). In addition, strain and temperature sensitivities of silica cavity are, respectively, 1.59 pm/με and 12.71 pm/°C. Thus, due to the different sensitivities of air cavity and silica cavity to strain and temperature, this structure can be used to concurrently measure strain and temperature.
We propose a high-temperature sensor based on a suspended-core microstructured optical fiber (SCMF). The sensor is constructed by fusion splicing a piece of SCMF between two sections of multimode ...fibers (MMFs) which act as light beam couplers. The multimode interference is formed by the air cladding modes and the silica core modes in the SCMF. Fast Fourier transform is adapted to filtering the raw transmission spectra of the MMF-SCMF-MMF structure. The wavelength shift of the dominant spatial frequency is monitored as the temperature varies from 50 °C to 800 °C. The sensitivities of 31.6 pm/°C and 51.6 pm/°C in the temperature range of 50 °C-450 °C and 450 °C-800 °C are respectively achieved. Taking advantage of the compact size, good stability and repeatability, easy fabrication, and low cost, this proposed high-temperature sensor has an applicable value.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of Circ_101064 on glioma cell proliferation, invasion, migration and explore the underlying mechanisms. The expression levels of Circ_101064 in ...glioma/para-carcinoma tissues and glioma cells were analyzed using RT-qPCR. Moreover, U251 and U87 cells were transfected with si-Circ_101064 or miR-154–5p mimics. Cell proliferation rate was determined by CCK-8 assay; the invasion and migration activities were examined using Transwell assay; the expression levels of PIWIL1 were evaluated by RT-qPCR and western blotting. The expression level of Circ_101064 was significantly upregulated in glioma tissues compared with control, and was closely associated with tumor grading and diameter. Furthermore, increased Circ_101064 expression was detected in human glioma cell lines. In addition, knockdown of Circ_101064 remarkably suppressed cell proliferation, invasion and migration in glioma cells in vitro. Moreover, microRNA-154–5p (miR-154–5p) could be a target of Circ_101064. Additionally, PIWIL1 is a putative downstream molecule of miR-154–5p, and its expression was downregulated by knockdown of Circ_101064. The effects on cell growth and metastasis caused by si-Circ_101064 were notably enhanced by miR-154–5p mimics. However, the influences of miR-154-5p-suppressed proliferation, migration and invasion of glioma cells could be abolished by overexpressed PIWIL1. In summary, our findings provided novel insight into the regulatory functions of Circ_101064 during tumor development in glioma. More importantly, Circ_101064/miR-154–5p/PIWIL1 axis could be a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of this disease.

Hospital staff are vulnerable and at high risk of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection. The aim of this study was to monitor the psychological distress in hospital staff and examine the ...relationship between the psychological distress and possible causes during the COVID-19 epidemic.
An online survey was conducted from February 1 to February 14, 2020. Hospital staff from five national COVID-19 designated hospitals in Chongqing participated. Data collected included demographics and stress responses to COVID-19: 1) the impact of event scale to measure psychological stress reactions; 2) generalizedanxietydisorder 7 to measure anxiety symptoms; 3) Patient Health Questionnaire 9 to measure depression symptoms; 4) Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale to measure obsessive-compulsive symptoms (OCS); and 5) Patient Health Questionnaire 15 to measure somatization symptoms. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors that were correlated with psychological distress.
Hospital staff that participated in this study were identified as either doctors or nurses. A total of 456 respondents completed the questionnaires with a response rate of 91.2%. The mean age was 30.67 ± 7.48 years (range, 17 to 64 years). Of all respondents, 29.4% were men. Of the staff surveyed, 43.2% had stress reaction syndrome. The highest prevalence of psychological distress was OCS (37.5%), followed by somatization symptoms (33.3%), anxiety symptoms (31.6%), and depression symptoms (29.6%). Univariate analyses indicated that female subjects, middle aged subjects, subjects in the low income group, and subjects working in isolation wards were prone to experience psychological distress. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed “Reluctant to work or considered resignation” (odds ratio OR, 5.192; 95%CI, 2.396–11.250; P < .001), “Afraid to go home because of fear of infecting family” (OR, 2.099; 95%CI, 1.299–3.391; P = .002) “Uncertainty about frequent modification of infection and control procedures” (OR, 1.583; 95%CI, 1.061–2.363; P = .025), and“Social support” (OR, 1.754; 95%CI, 1.041–2.956; P = .035) were correlated with psychological reactions. “Reluctant to work or considered resignation” and “Afraid to go home because of fear of infecting family” were associated with a higher risk of symptoms of Anxiety (OR, 3.622; 95% CI, 1.882–6.973; P < .001; OR, 1.803; 95% CI, 1.069–3.039; P = .027), OCS (OR, 5.241; 95% CI, 2.545–10.793; P < .001; OR, 1.999; 95% CI, 1.217–3.282; P = .006) and somatization (OR, 5.177; 95% CI, 2.595–10.329; P < .001; OR, 1.749; 95% CI, 1.051–2.91; P = .031). “Stigmatization and rejection in neighborhood because of hospital work”, “Reluctant to work or considered resignation” and “Uncertainty about frequent modification of infection and control procedures” were associated with a higher risk of symptoms of Depression(OR, 2.297; 95% CI, 1.138–4.637; P = .020; OR, 3.134; 95% CI, 1.635–6.006; P = .001; OR, 1.645; 95% CI, 1.075–2.517; P = .022).
Hospital staff showed different prevalence of psychological distress during the COVID-19 epidemic. Our study confirmed the severity of negative psychological distress on hospital staff and identified factors associated with negative psychological distress that can be used to provide valuable information for psychological interventions to improve the mental health of vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 epidemic.

RAN binding protein 10 (RANBP10), a ubiquitously expressed and evolutionarily conserved protein, as a RAN-GTP exchange factor (GEF) to regulate several factors involved in cellular progression. ...Previous studies showed that RANBP10 was overexpressed in prostate cancer cells and was responsible for androgen receptor (AR) activation. However, the biological function of RANBP10 in glioblastoma (GBM) has not been studied. Here, we found that RANBP10 was overexpressed in GBM, and high RANBP10 expression was closely linked to poor survival of patients with GBM. Downregulation of RANBP10 significantly inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and tumor growth of GBM cells. In addition, we revealed that RANBP10 could suppress the promoter activity of FBXW7, and thereby increase the protein stability of c-Myc in GBM cells. Silencing of FBXW7 in RANBP10-knockdown GBM cells could partly negate the effects induced by RANBP10 downregulation. Taken together, our findings established that RANBP10 significantly promoted GBM progression by control of the FBXW7-c-Myc axis, and suggest that RANBP10 may be a potential target in GBM.
Endometrial carcinoma (EC) is a commonly diagnosed gynecological malignancy. Interleukin-6 (IL6) plays a critical role in modulating the progression of several types of tumors, including EC. However, ...the specific mechanism of IL6 in regulating EC progression has not been clearly elucidated. In this study, we performed a series of functional experiments to explore the potential mechanisms involved in IL6 function in the progression of EC. Here, we found that IL6 increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation by enhancing the NADPH oxidase (NOX) level and induced mtDNA leakage in EC cells, which further caused the activation of the downstream cGAS-STING signaling and increased production of extracellular vesicle (EV) production from EC cells. Besides, the activation of cGAS-STING signaling enhanced the expression of type I IFN and its downstream molecule PD-L1 through the TBK1-IRF3 pathway. Importantly, a high level mtDNA and PD-L1 were present in EVs derived from IL6-induced EC cells; these vesicles were shown to be able to induce T cell apoptosis. Finally, anti-PD-L1 treatment in mice showed that blockade of PD-L1 significantly reversed tumor immune escape mediated by IL6-induced EVs. Together, we provide evidence that IL6 induced mtDNA leakage to regulate the immune escape of EC cells. Our findings may provide a novel clue for the development of therapeutic targets for EC.

Ginsenosides are bioactive components of Panax ginseng with many functions such as anti-aging, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, anti-fatigue, and anti-tumor. Ginsenosides are categorized into ...dammarane, oleanene, and ocotillol type tricyclic triterpenoids based on the aglycon structure. Based on the sugar moiety linked to C-3, C-20, and C-6, C-20, dammarane type was divided into protopanaxadiol (PPD) and protopanaxatriol (PPT). The effects of ginsenosides on skin disorders are noteworthy. They play anti-aging roles by enhancing immune function, resisting melanin formation, inhibiting oxidation, and elevating the concentration of collagen and hyaluronic acid. Thus, ginsenosides have previously been widely used to resist skin diseases and aging. This review details the role of ginsenosides in the anti-skin aging process from mechanisms and experimental research.

We propose a scheme to realize the coherent control of optical soliton propagation and interaction in a three level Λ type electromagnetically induced transparency system with the control field being ...spatially modulated. We show that the spatial perturbation of the control field has no influence on the linear propagation properties and self-phase modulation of the probe field but can produce an equivalent external potential to affect the nonlinear propagation of the probe field. For single soliton propagation, we realize the transmission and trapping of optical solitons via external potential. For double soliton interaction, we realize the coherent control of attractive and repulsion interactions of two optical solitons and design an XNOR logical operation. Finally, for the triple soliton incident case, based on the coherent control of interaction between three solitons via external potential, we design a beam selector. The results obtained here are useful not only for the deep understanding of optical soliton interaction but also for applications in all optical quantum information processing.
