In this paper, the analysis of the piezoelectric photothermal (PPT) spectra of a series of Cd1-xMnxTe mixed crystals is presented. The results indicated that the investigated mixed crystals exhibited ...nonuniform composition which is the result of diversified spatial distribution of manganese ions in the samples. Computations of the piezoelectric spectra, performed in multi-layer models of real samples, enabled determination of the percentage compositions of crystals in the two crystal regions approach. Different types of spatial distribution of manganese in the samples were revealed. Application of the models also enabled a quantitative estimation of the state of the surface of investigated samples.
A fossil leaf fragment collected from the Ogallala Formation of northwestern Kansas exhibits features found in taxa of the modern grass subfamily Chloridoideae. These include bullet-shaped, ...bicellular microhairs, dumbbell-shaped silica bodies, cross-shaped suberin cells, papillae, stomata with low dome- to triangular-shaped subsidiary cells, and Kranz leaf anatomy. The leaf fragment extends the fossil record of plants that show both anatomical and external micromorphological features indicating C$_{4}$ photosynthesis back to the Miocene. On the basis of associated mammals, the leaf fragment is assigned a Hemphillian age (7 to 5 million years ago).
The influence of some technological procedures, such as heat treatment of wheat flour, the temperature and the period of dough's fermentation, the addition of phytase to the dough so as to decompose ...phytic acids, as well as the degree of freeing calcium and iron from the bread, has been described. It was found that the bread made of wheat flour, which had been treated by the heat, had a lower content of phytic acids than that made of wheat flour that hadn't been treated by the heat, which pointed to a partial decomposition of phytic compounds in flour under the influence of the elevated temperature. Elevating the fermentation's temperature from 15 and 20 to 30 deg C caused a clear increase in phytic acids hydrolysis degree. Increasing the fermentation's time from 0.5 h to 3 h in 30 deg C lowered considerably the content of phytic acids in the obtained bread

We have compared differentiation ability of glioblastoma cells with differentiation ability of neural progenitors. An efficient differentiation arrest was observed in all cell lines isolated from ...glioblastomas in contrast to normal neural progenitors. However, cells isolated from six glioblastomas showed features of early stages of neural differentiation. Moreover, the cells derived from a majority of glioblastomas (8 out of 10) as well as neural progenitors showed features of non-neural (mesenchymal-like) differentiation. Moreover aggregated cells sustained EGFR amplification, whereas cells grown as a monolayer did not. Cells showing EGFR amplification became apoptotic grown as mono-layer. Majority of mesenchymally differentiated glioblastoma cells showed features of senescence. Novel hypotheses which we would like to test are as follows: Neural progenitors could be a potential source of glioblastomas. Glioblastoma presents not only tumor stem cells but also tumor progenitor cells. Stable coexpression of glial and neuronal markers presented by glioblastoma cells results from differentiation arrest. Aggregating glioblastoma cells allows to sustain, EGFR amplification in vitro. Moreover aggregated cells show proliferation ability, and differentiation arrest, whereas monolayer cells can be efficiently differentiated and finally senescent. It suggests that simultaneous analysis of differentiation processes altogether with considering status of genes such as EGFR may help in designing new molecular targets for chemotherapy.
