Single top production processes at hadron colliders provide information on the relation between the top quark and the electroweak sector of the standard model. We compute the next-to-leading order ...QCD corrections to the three main production channels: t-channel, s-channel, and tW associated production, in the standard model including operators up to dimension six. The calculation can be matched to parton shower programs and can therefore be directly used in experimental analyses. The QCD corrections are found to significantly impact the extraction of the current limits on the operators, because both of an improved accuracy and a better precision of the theoretical predictions. In addition, the distributions of some of the key discriminating observables are modified in a nontrivial way, which could change the interpretation of measurements in terms of UV complete models.

We study the “inverse problem” in the context of the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT): how and to what extend can one reconstruct the UV theory, given the measured values of ...the operator coefficients in the IR? The main obstacle of this problem is the degeneracies in the space of coefficients: a given SMEFT truncated at a finite dimension can be mapped to infinitely many UV theories. We discuss these degeneracies at the dimension-8 level, and show that positivity bounds play a crucial role in the inverse problem. In particular, the degeneracies either vanish or become significantly limited for SMEFTs that live on or close to the positivity bounds. The UV particles of these SMEFTs, and their properties such as spin, charge, other quantum numbers, and interactions with the SM particles, can often be uniquely determined, assuming dimension-8 coefficients are measured. The allowed region for SMEFTs, which forms a convex cone, can be systematically constructed by enumerating its generators. We show that a geometric notion, extremality, conveniently connects the positivity problem with the inverse problem. We discuss the implications of a SMEFT living on an extremal ray, on a
k
-face, and on the vertex of the positive cone. We also show that the information of the dimension-8 coefficients can be used to set exclusion limits on all individual UV states that interact with the SM, independent of specific model assumptions. Our results indicate that the dimension-8 operators encode much more information about the UV than one would naively expect, which can be used to reverse engineer the UV physics from the SMEFT.
We present analytical results for top-quark decay processes, in an effective field theory beyond the standard model, at next-to-leading order in QCD. We parametrize new physics effects using ...dimension-six operators, and consider all operators that give rise to nonstandard interactions of the top quark. We investigate both the flavor-conserving and flavor-changing decay modes, including their two-body and three-body semileptonic final states. The QCD mixing among relevant operators is also taken into account. These results provide all information needed for a complete model-independent study of top-quark decay at next-to-leading order accuracy, paving the way to global analyses for new physics effects in an effective field theory approach.
In the past decades, many natural bioactive compounds with antioxidant, immunoregulatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer activities have been successfully identified in plant and animal materials. ...However, due to their poor solubility, unfavorable flavor, low bioavailability and instability during food processing and storage, the development of bioactive compounds used in the food industry presents many technological challenges.
Emulsion electrospinning is a novel and simple technique to fabricate core-shell nanofibers, and either water-in-oil (W/O) or oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions can be electrospun to directly encapsulate hydrophilic or hydrophobic compounds into core-shell fibers, respectively. This review introduces fundamentals and advantages of emulsion electrospinning as well as its food applications. The effects of different types of emulsifiers on the formation of emulsion systems and emulsion-based electrospun fibers are highlighted. Further, the existing limitations and scope for future research are discussed.
Recent studies have found that the emulsion-based electrospun nanofibers can enhance the encapsulation efficiency, stability, and bioavailability of bioactive compounds, as well as achieve targeted delivery and controlled release, thus providing new strategies to improve their barrier performance compared to conventional electrospinning and therefore facilitating the development of emulsion-based electrospun mats in the food industry.
•Fundamentals and advantages of emulsion electrospinning are overviewed.•Diverse food-grade materials are appropriate for emulsion electrospinning.•Role of different types of emulsifiers in emulsion electrospinning is clarified.•Food applications of emulsion-based electrospun fibers are discussed.

This implies that essentially all Higgs channels have started to become sensitive to top-quark couplings, and in particular, Higgs observables at high luminosity LHC as well as future lepton colliders, even below the

threshold, will improve our knowledge of top-quark couplings. We derive the sensitivities of Higgs measurements to top-quark operators at the high luminosity LHC, using projections for both inclusive and differential measurements. We conclude that treating the dimension-six top-quark sector and the Higgs/electroweak sector separately may not continue to be a good strategy. A global analysis combining Higgs and top-quark measurements is desirable, and our calculation and implementation provide an automatic and realistic simulation tool for this purpose.
Tumor suppressor p53 plays a key role in tumor suppression. In addition to tumor suppression, p53 is also involved in many other biological and pathological processes, such as immune response, ...maternal reproduction, tissue ischemia/reperfusion injuries and neurodegenerative diseases. While it has been widely accepted that the role of p53 in regulation of cell cycle arrest, senescence and apoptosis contributes greatly to the function of p53 in tumor suppression, emerging evidence has implicated that p53 also exerts its tumor suppressive function through regulation of many other cellular processes, such as metabolism, anti-oxidant defense and ferroptosis. Ferroptosis is a unique iron-dependent form of programmed cell death driven by lipid peroxidation in cells. Ferroptosis has been reported to be involved in cancer, tissue ischemia/reperfusion injuries and neurodegenerative diseases. Recent studies have shown that ferroptosis can be regulated by p53 and its signaling pathway as well as tumor-associated mutant p53. Interestingly, the regulation of ferroptosis by p53 appears to be highly context-dependent. In this review, we summarize recent advances in the regulation of ferroptosis by p53 and its signaling pathway. Further elucidation of the role and molecular mechanism of p53 in ferroptosis regulation will yield new therapeutic strategies for cancer and other diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and tissue ischemia/reperfusion injuries.
We adopt a fully gauge-invariant effective-field-theory approach for parametrizing top-quark flavor-changing-neutral-current interactions. It allows for a global interpretation of experimental ...constraints (or measurements) and the systematic treatment of higher-order quantum corrections. We discuss some recent results obtained at next-to-leading-order accuracy in QCD and perform, at that order, a first global analysis of a subset of the available experimental limits in terms of effective operator coefficients. We encourage experimental collaborations to adopt this approach and extend the analysis by using all information they have prime access to.

Searching for deviations in quartic gauge boson couplings (QGCs) is one of the main goals of the electroweak program at the LHC. We consider positivity bounds adapted to the Standard Model, ...and show that a set of positivity constraints on 18 anomalous QGC couplings can be derived, by requiring that the vector boson scattering amplitudes of specific channels and polarisations satisfy the fundamental principles of quantum field theory. We explicitly solve the positivity inequalities to remove their dependence on the polarisations of the external particles, and obtain 19 linear inequalities, 3 quadratic inequalities, and 1 quartic inequality that only involve the QGC parameters and the weak angle. These inequalities constrain the possible directions in which deviations from the standard QGC can occur, and can be used to guide future experimental searches. We study the morphology of the positivity bounds in the parameter space, and find that the allowed parameter space is carved out by the intersection of pyramids, prisms, and (approximately) cones. Altogether, they reduce the volume of the allowed parameter space to only 2.1% of the total. We also show the bounds for some benchmark cases, where one, two, or three operators, respectively, are turned on at a time, so as to facilitate a quick comparison with the experimental results.
We review the effective field theory approach to physics beyond the Standard Model using dimension-six operators. Topics include the choice of operator basis, electroweak boson pair production, ...precision electroweak physics (including one-loop contributions), and Higgs physics. By measuring the coefficients of dimension-six operators with good accuracy, we can hope to infer some or all of the features of the theory that lies beyond the Standard Model.
