Two body B meson decays involving the radially excited meson ψ(2S)/ηc(2S) in the final states are studied by using the perturbative QCD (pQCD) approach. We find that: (a) The branching ratios for the ...decays involving a K meson are predicted as Br(B+→ψ(2S)K+)=(5.37−2.22+1.85)×10−4, Br(B0→ψ(2S)K0)=(4.98−2.06+1.71)×10−4, Br(B+→ηc(2S)K+)=(3.54−3.09+3.18)×10−4, which are consistent with the present data when the next-to-leading-order (NLO) effects are included. Here the NLO effects are from the vertex corrections and the NLO Wilson coefficients. The large errors in the decay B+→ηc(2S)K+ are mainly induced by using the decay constant fηc(2S)=0.243−0.111+0.079 GeV with large uncertainties. (b) While there seems to be some room left for other higher order corrections or the non-perturbative long distance contributions in the decays involving a π meson, Br(B+→ψ(2S)π+)=(1.17−0.50+0.42)×10−5, Br(B0→ψ(2S)π0)=0.54−0.23+0.20×10−5, which are smaller than the present data. The results for other decays can be tested via running LHCb and forthcoming Super-B experiments. (c) There is no obvious evidence of the direct CP violation being seen in the decays B→ψ(2S)π(K),ηc(2S)π(K) in the present experiments, which is supported by our calculations. If a few percent value is confirmed in the future, this would definitely indicate the existence of new physics.
Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) must have both long cycle life and calendar life to be commercially viable. However, “trial and error” methodologies remain prevalent in contemporary research endeavors ...to identify favorable electrolytes. Here, a guiding principle for the selection of solvents for LMBs is proposed, which aims to achieve high Coulombic efficiency while minimizing the corrosion. For the first time, this study reveals that the dipole moment and orientation of solvent molecules have significant impacts on lithium metal reversibility and corrosion. Solvents with high dipole moments are more likely to adsorb onto lithium metal surfaces, which also influence the solid electrolyte interphase. Using this principle, the use of LiNO3 is demonstrated as the sole salt in LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2/Li cells can achieve excellent cycling stability. Overall, this work bridges the molecular structure of solvents to the reversibility and corrosion of lithium metal, and these concepts can be extended to other metal‐based batteries.

Hara, and P. polyphylla Smith var. yunnanensis (Franch.) ...Hand. -Mazz. Due of course to the good effects of analgesia and hemostasis, it was traditionally used to treat trauma by folk herbalists.
This study summarized the traditional uses, distributions, phytochemical components, pharmacological properties, and toxicity evaluation of the genus Paris, and reviewed the economic value of cultivate P. polyphylla. This aim was that of providing a new and comprehensive recognition of these medicinal plants for the further utilization of Paris plants.
The literature about traditional and folk uses of genus Paris was obtained from Duxiu Search, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). The other literature about genus Paris was searched online on Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar, Scifinder database, and Springer research. The Scientific Database of China Plant Species (DCP) (http://db.kib.ac.cn/Default.aspx) databases were used to check the scientific names and provide species, varieties, and distribution of genus Paris. The botany studies information of genus Paris was available online from Plant Plus of China (www.iplant.cn). All the molecular structures of chemical compounds displayed in the text were produced by ChemBioDraw Ultra 14.0.
The plants of genus Paris, containing about 33 species and 15 varieties, are mainly distributed in Southwest China (Yunnan, Sichuan, and Guizhou provinces). More than 320 chemical components have been isolated from genus Paris since 2020, including steroidal saponins, C-21 steroids, phytosterols, insect hormones, pentacyclic triterpenes, flavonoids, and other compounds. Arrays of pharmacological investigations revealed that compounds and extracts of Paris species possess a wide spectrum of pharmacological effects, such as antitumor, cytotoxic, antimicrobial, antifungal, hemostatic, and anti-inflammatory activities. The studies about toxicity evaluation suggested that Rhizome Paridis had slight liver toxicity.
The dried rhizomes of P. polyphylla, P. polyphylla var. chinensis, and P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis were used to treat wound, bleeding, and stomachache, etc. in folk medicine. Phytochemistry researches showed that different species had pretty similarities especially in terms of chemical constituents. Pharmacological studies witnessed that Rhizome Paridis has various activities. Among these activities, steroidal saponins were the main active ingredients. Furthermore, an important aspect responsible for increasing interest in genus Paris is the use of antifertility-nonhormonal contraceptives by women. Also, the development of TCM (Traditional Chinese medicine) planting industry can improve the income of ethnic minorities and promote economic development.

Identification of novel molecular signaling targets for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is important. The present study examined expression, functions and possible underlying mechanisms of the ...sodium/myo-inositol co-transporter SLC5A3 in NSCLC. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and local NSCLC tissue results demonstrated that SLC5A3 expression in NSCLC tissues (including patient-derived primary NSCLC cells) was significantly higher than that in normal lung tissues and lung epithelial cells. In primary NSCLC cells and immortalized lines, SLC5A3 depletion, using small hairpin RNA (shRNA) and CRSIRP/Cas9 methods, robustly impeded cell proliferation and migration, simultaneously provoking cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Conversely, ectopic overexpression of SLC5A3 further enhanced proliferation and migration in primary NSCLC cells. The intracellular myo-inositol contents and Akt-mTOR activation were largely inhibited by SLC5A3 silencing or knockout (KO), but were augmented following SLC5A3 overexpression in primary NSCLC cells. Significantly, SLC5A3 KO-induced anti-NSCLC cell activity was largely ameliorated by exogenously adding myo-inositol or by a constitutively-active Akt construct. By employing the patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model, we found that the growth of subcutaneous NSCLC xenografts in nude mice was largely inhibited by intratumoral injection SLC5A3 shRNA adeno-associated virus (AAV). SLC5A3 silencing, myo-inositol depletion, Akt-mTOR inactivation and apoptosis induction were detected in SLC5A3 shRNA virus-injected NSCLC xenograft tissues. Together, elevated SLC5A3 promotes NSCLC cell growth possibly by maintaining myo-inositol contents and promoting Akt-mTOR activation.
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the primary liver cancer, is one of the most malignant human tumors with extremely poor prognosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-cancer effect of ...berberine in a human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (HepG2), and to study the underlying mechanisms by focusing on the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling cascade.
We found that berberine induced both apoptotic and autophagic death of HepG2 cells, which was associated with a significant activation of AMPK and an increased expression of the inactive form of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC). Inhibition of AMPK by RNA interference (RNAi) or by its inhibitor compound C suppressed berberine-induced caspase-3 cleavage, apoptosis and autophagy in HepG2 cells, while AICAR, the AMPK activator, possessed strong cytotoxic effects. In HepG2 cells, mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) activation was important for cell survival, and berberine inhibited mTORC1 via AMPK activation.
Together, these results suggested that berberine-induced both apoptotic and autophagic death requires AMPK activation in HepG2 cells.
Severe retinal ischemia causes persistent visual impairments in eye diseases. Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells are located near the choroidal capillaries, and are easily affected by ischemic or ...hypoxia. Ginsenoside Rg-1 has shown significant neuroprotective effects. This study was performed to test the cytoprotective effect of ginsenoside Rg-1 in RPE cells against hypoxia and cobalt chloride (CoCl2) assaults, and to understand the underlying mechanisms. We found that Rg-1 pre-administration significantly inhibited CoCl2- and hypoxia-induced RPE cell death and apoptosis. Reactive oxygen specisis (ROS)-dependent p38 and c-Jun NH(2)-terminal kinases (JNK) MAPK activation was required for CoCl2-induced RPE cell death, and Rg-1 pre-treatment significantly inhibited ROS production and following p38/JNK activation. Further, CoCl2 suppressed pro-survival mTOR complex 1 (mTORC1) activation in RPE cells through activating of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), while Rg-1 restored mTORC1 activity through inhibiting AMPK activation. CoCl2-induced AMPK activation was also dependent on ROS production, and anti-oxidant N-acetylcysteine (NAC) prevented AMPK activation and RPE cell death by CoCl2. Our results indicated that Rg-1 could be further investigated as a novel cell-protective agent for retinal ischemia.

Background
Whether adherence to the World Cancer Research Fund/American Institute for Cancer Research (WCRF/AICR) cancer prevention recommendations is associated with a reduced risk of pancreatic ...cancer remains controversial. Additionally, no study has investigated this association in the US population. Hence, we investigated the association of adherence to the 2018 WCRF/AICR cancer prevention recommendations with pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality in a US population.
Methods
A population‐based cohort of 95 962 participants was identified. A score incorporating eight WCRF/AICR components was constructed to reflect adherence to the WCRF/AICR guidelines, with higher scores representing greater adherence to the guidelines. Cox and competing risk regression were used to calculate risk estimates for pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality, respectively. Restricted cubic spline functions were used to test nonlinearity.
Results
In the fully adjusted model, higher overall WCRF/AICR scores were shown to be associated with lower risks of developing pancreatic cancer (hazard ratiotertile 3 vs 1:0.67; 95% confidence interval: 0.49, 0.90; Ptrend = .0099) and mortality due to this cancer (subdistribution hazard ratiotertile 3 vs 1 0.65; 95% confidence interval: 0.47, 0.89; Ptrend = .0108) in a linear dose–response manner (all Pnonlinearity > .05). The component “be physically active” was shown to be a key contributor to the observed associations. No association of the diet‐specific WCRF/AICR score with pancreatic incidence and mortality was found.
Conclusions
Adherence to the 2018 WCRF/AICR guidelines, especially “be physically active,” confers reduced risks of pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality in the US population; however, adherence to dietary components alone does not confer such beneficial effects.

Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary bone malignancy in the adolescent population. MAFG (v-maf avian musculoaponeurotic fibrosarcoma oncogene homolog G) forms a heterodimer with Nrf2 ...(NF-E2-related factor 2), binding to antioxidant response element (ARE), which is required for Nrf2 signaling activation. We found that MAFG mRNA and protein expression is significantly elevated in human OS tissues as well as in established and primary human OS cells. In human OS cells, MAGF silencing or knockout (KO) largely inhibited OS cell growth, proliferation, and migration, simultaneously inducing oxidative injury and apoptosis activation. Conversely, ectopic overexpression of MAFG augmented OS cell progression in vitro. MicroRNA-4660 (miR-4660) directly binds the 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of MAFG mRNA in the cytoplasm of OS cells. MAFG 3′ UTR luciferase activity and expression as well as OS cell growth were largely inhibited with forced miR-4660 overexpression but augmented with miR-4660 inhibition. In vivo, MAGF short hairpin RNA (shRNA) or forced overexpression of miR-4660 inhibited subcutaneous OS xenograft growth in severe combined immunodeficient mice. Furthermore, MAFG silencing or miR-4660 overexpression inhibited OS xenograft in situ growth in proximal tibia of the nude mice. In summary, MAFG overexpression-driven OS cell progression is inhibited by miR-4660. The miR-4660-MAFG axis could be novel therapeutic target for human OS.

MAFG overexpression is involved in osteosarcoma tumorigenesis and progression. A novel microRNA, miR-4660, selectively silenced MAFG to inhibit osteosarcoma cell progression in vitro and in vivo. Targeting this miR-4660-MAFG axis could be a promising therapeutic strategy against osteosarcoma.
