•The fiticious node method based on the LRBFCM is further applied to 3D case.•The band structure of 3D phononic crystals can be quickly evaluated.•The boundary or interface condition of 3D case can ...be easily treated.•The improved LRBFCM is applied to the 3D phononic crystals for the first time.
In this paper, we further extend the local radial basis function collocation method (LRBFCM) for efficient computation of band structures of phononic crystals from 2D to 3D. The proposed LRBFCM uses one fictitious node to tackle instability problems caused by calculation of derivatives of the wave pressure. A few examples of sound pressure wave propagation are modelled to validate the developed method. Comparisons with finite element modeling demonstrate the high stability and efficiency of the new method in computation of band structures of 3D phononic crystals.
As one of the most common complications of cancer or its treatment, cancer-related pain can negatively affect the functional status and quality of life of patients. Pain management for cancer ...patients in China started later than that in developed countries. After 30 years of efforts by health authorities and medical professionals, cancer pain management in China has made great progress. However, with the accelerated aging of the Chinese population, the increasing incidence of cancer, the prolonged survival of cancer patients, and the strengthening of people's expectations for high-quality life, there is still a gap between the development level of cancer pain management in China and the actual health needs of cancer patients. This article provides a comprehensive overview of the current state and future challenges facing the integrated management of cancer pain in China. Simultaneously, it offers a prospective outlook on future developments, thereby furnishing vital information for professionals engaged in th
This paper studies the libration-free cargo transfer control of a partial space elevator where the main satellite may change its orbital state in the transfer period. The orbital motion of the main ...satellite in the climber transfer period is first studied. Then, a reduced-order libration-free dynamics of the partial space elevator is derived. Accordingly, a novel libration-free switching control strategy is proposed to stabilize cargo transportation with two alternating controllers. The Controller I controls the cargo speed in the libration-free mode by a shrinking horizon model predictive control based on the reduced-order libration-free dynamic mode of the partial space elevator. It leads to high computational efficiency in control. Once the libration is induced by the cargo transfer, the control turns off the Controller I and activates the Controller II to suppress the libration to zero within one time step of the Controller I by a novel prescribed-time control law based on the fixed-time control scheme. The stability of the control is proved in the Lyapunov framework. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy are demonstrated by computation simulation. Simulation results reveal that the proposed control strategy is effective in keeping stable cargo transportation while ensuring the equilibrium state at the end of transportation.
Treatment with effective antibiotics is one important strategy for syphilis control in China. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of azithromycin resistance to T. pallidum in China. A ...cross-sectional study was conducted among 391 patients with early syphilis recruited from STD clinics in eight cities during October 2008 and October 2011. The swabs were obtained from the moist lesions of the participating patients. A touchdown/nested PCR of the 23S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene was performed on DNA samples extracted from these specimens. The presence or absence of the A2058G point mutation, conferring resistance to azithromycin, was determined by restriction enzyme digestion analysis of the PCR amplicon by MboII. Two hundred and eleven patients with primary or secondary syphilis were found to have T. pallidum DNA in their moist lesions by PCR assays. The A2058G mutation was present in 91.9% (194/211, 95% CI, 87.2–95.1%) of these patients, with no significant differences noted between patients from the eastern part (93.8%), southern part (88.6%) and northern part (95.2%) of China (v2 = 2.303, p 0.316). Compared with patients who had not taken macrolides in previous years before study entry, the patients who had taken the antibiotics had a significantly higher prevalence of azithromycin resistance (97.0% vs. 62.5%), with an odds ratio of 19.65 (95% CI, 5.77–66.93). It can be concluded that prevalence of azithromycin resistance is substantial in China and consequently that the macrolides should not be used as a treatment option for early or incubating syphilis in China.
This paper studies the control of spacecraft rendezvous with attitude stable or spinning targets in an elliptical orbit. The linearized Tschauner-Hempel equation is used to describe the motion of ...spacecraft and the problem is formulated by model predictive control. The control objective is to maximize control accuracy and smoothness simultaneously to avoid unexpected change or overshoot of trajectory for safe rendezvous. It is achieved by minimizing the weighted summations of control errors and increments. The effects of two sets of horizons (control and predictive horizons) in the model predictive control are examined in terms of fuel consumption, rendezvous time and computational effort. The numerical results show the proposed control strategy is effective.

Many of the most effective anti-cancer drugs induce a dose-limiting peripheral neuropathy that compromises therapy. Evidence from animal models of chemotherapy-induced painful peripheral neuropathy ...produced by the taxane agent, paclitaxel, and the platinum-complex agent, oxaliplatin, indicate that they produce neuropathy via a common mechanism—a toxic effect on the mitochondria in primary afferent sensory neurons. Bortezomib is from the proteasome-inhibitor class of chemotherapeutics. It also produces a dose-limiting peripheral neuropathy, but its effects on neuronal mitochondria are unknown. To investigate this, we developed a model of bortezomib-induced painful peripheral neuropathy in the rat and assessed mitochondrial function (respiration and ATP production) in sciatic nerve samples harvested at two time points: day 7, which is three days after treatment and before pain appears, and day 35, which is one month post-treatment and the time of peak pain severity. We found significant deficits in Complex I-mediated and Complex II-mediated respiration, and in ATP production at both time points. Prophylactic treatment with acetyl-l-carnitine, which has previously been shown to prevent paclitaxel- and oxaliplatin-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and pain, completely blocked bortezomib's effects on mitochondria and pain. These results suggest that mitotoxicity may be the core pathology for all chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy and that drugs that protect mitochondrial function may be useful chemotherapy adjuncts.
► The proteasome-inhibitor, bortezomib, induces a painful peripheral neuropathy in rat. ► Bortezomib causes chronic mitochondrial dysfunction in primary afferent neurons. ► Mitotoxicity is a likely cause of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy.
SUMMARY
Submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection (STER) of subepithelial tumors (SETs) originating from the muscularis propria (MP) layer in the cardia is rarely performed due to the difficulty of ...creating a submucosal tunnel for resection. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of STER using methylene-blue guidance for SETs originating from the MP layer in the cardia. From January 2012 to December 2014, 56 patients with SETs originating from the MP layer in the cardia were treated with STER using methylene-blue guidance. The complete resection rate and adverse event rate were the main outcome measurements. Successful complete resection by STER was achieved in all 56 cases (100%). The median size of the tumor was 1.8 cm. Nine patients (15.3%) had adverse events including subcutaneous emphysema, pneumoperitoneum, pneumothorax, and pleural effusion. These nine patients recovered successfully after conservative treatment without endoscopic or surgical intervention. No residual or recurrent tumors were detected in any patient during the follow-up period (median, 25 months). The adverse event rate was significantly higher for tumors originating in the deeper MP layers (46.7%) than in the superficial MP layers (4.9%) (P < 0.05), differed significantly according to tumor size (5.4% for tumors < 2.0 cm vs. 36.8% for tumors ≥ 2.0 cm; P < 0.05), and also differed significantly in relation to the tumor growth pattern (4.1% for the intraluminal growth vs. 100% for the extraluminal growth; P < 0.001). STER using methylene-blue guidance appears to be a feasible method for removing SETs originating from the MP layer in the cardia.

This paper investigates the tracking and control problem of a spacecraft rendezvous with a non-cooperative and tumbling space target subject to parametric uncertainty and unknown external ...disturbances. The kinematics and dynamics of spacecraft position and attitude are described by dual quaternions. A novel adaptive sliding mode disturbance observer is proposed to track the pose of non-cooperative tumbling target without need for upper bounds of first and second derivatives of lumped disturbance. Based on the proposed observer, a finite time sliding mode control is developed in term of dual quaternion. Different from existing sliding mode control schemes, the conditions on the controller parameters bounds are relaxed. The stability and robustness of the overall closed-loop control is proved by the Lyapunov framework. The robustness and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme are validated by numerical simulations in comparison with existing approaches.
