Cadmium (Cd) is a type of high-risk heavy metal that can damage organs such as the liver, but its mechanism is not yet clear. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered mode of regulatory cell death. We ...explored whether ferroptosis is involved in Cd-induced liver damage and the underlying mechanism. Our research showed that Cd induced liver damage by inducing ferroptosis, and the use of ferroptosis inhibitors reduced the degree of liver damage. Moreover, the occurrence of ferroptosis was accompanied by the activation of the PERK-eIF2α-ATF4-CHOP signaling pathway, and inhibiting endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress reduced ferroptosis demonstrating that ferroptosis induced by Cd is dependent on ER stress. In addition, chloroquine, a common autophagy inhibitor, mitigated ferroptosis caused by Cd exposure. Then, the iron chelator deferoxamine reduced Cd-induced lipid peroxidation and cell death, demonstrating that the iron regulation disorder caused by ferritin phagocytosis contributes to the Cd-induced ferroptosis. In conclusion, our results show that Cd-induced liver toxicity is accompanied by ferroptosis, which contributes to Cd inducing oxidative stress to trigger autophagy and ER stress to promote the process of ferroptosis.

In this paper, we consider a set optimization problem with a partial order relation, which is defined by Minkowski difference. By using the image space analysis, we establish the relationships among ...the set optimization problem, a vector optimization problem and a set-valued optimization with vector criterion related to the image of the set optimization problem. In addition, two nonlinear regular weak separation functions are proposed for the set optimization problem. Based on the two nonlinear regular weak separation functions, saddle point sufficient optimality conditions, gap functions and error bounds for the set optimization problem, are obtained. Finally, we explore some applications of the obtained results to investigate robust multi-objective optimization problems and verify the validity of the results in shortest path problems with data uncertainty and multi-criteria traffic network equilibrium problems with interval-valued cost functions.
Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignant bone cancer in children and adolescents. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been shown to play significant role in various cancers, including ...OS. In a previous study, we have reported that a novel antisense lncRNA FOXF1-AS1, also known as FENDRR, could sensitize doxorubicin-resistance of OS cells through down-regulating ABCB1 and ABCC1. Here in, the critical role of FOXF1-AS1 in regulating OS progression was further investigated. Firstly, we found that FOXF1-AS1 and its antisense transcript FOXF1 expression were positively up-regulated in OS tissues and cell lines and correlated with poor prognosis of OS patients. through decreasing the expression of MMP2 and MMP9, whereas enhanced expression of FOXF1-AS1 had the opposite effects. In addition, mechanistically, both of FOXF1-AS1 and FOXF1 could regulate the expression of MMP2 and MMP9 at mRNA and protein levels, whereas FOXF1-AS1 could influence the FOXF1expression but FOXF1 did not have the same effect on FOXF1-AS1. Rescue assay further showed that FOXF1-AS1 overexpression efficiently reversed the knockdown of MMP2 and MMP9 expression induced by si-FOXF1. Thus, we concluded that FOXF1-AS1 may promote migration and invasion of OS cells through the FOXF1/MMP-2/-9 pathway. Taken together, these findings demonstrated the underlying mechanism of FOXF1-AS1 in the regulation of OS progression and provide a novel potential target in the OS therapy.
We consider a problem of dynamic spectrum leasing in a spectrum secondary market of cognitive radio networks where secondary service providers lease spectrum from spectrum brokers to provide service ...to secondary users. The problem is challenging when the optimal decisions of both secondary providers and secondary users are made dynamically under competition. To address this problem, a two-level dynamic game framework is developed in this paper. Since the secondary users can adapt the service selection strategies according to the received service quality and price, the dynamic service selection is modeled as an evolutionary game at the lower level. The replicator dynamics is applied to model the service selection adaptation and the evolutionary equilibrium is considered to be the solution. With dynamic service selection, competitive secondary providers can dynamically lease spectrum to provide service to secondary users. A spectrum leasing differential game is formulated to model this competition at the upper level. Both simultaneous play model and asynchronous play model are considered. The service selection distribution of the underlying evolutionary game describes the state of the upper differential game. Both open-loop and closed-loop Nash equilibria are obtained as the solution of dynamic control of the differential game. Numerical comparison shows the advantages over static control in terms of profit and convergence speed.

Four undescribed compounds including one aromatic glucoside derivative, cordyceglycoside A (1), one new isoleucine derivative inner salt, cordycepisosalt A (2), a rare four-membered lactam, cinerealactam B (3), and one sesquiterpene derivative, cordycepsetp A (4), together with six known compounds were isolated from Cordyceps militaris. The structures including absolute configurations of these new compounds, were unambiguously elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Biological evaluation of compounds 1–4 showed that 3 displays anti-renal fibrotic activities in TGF-β1 induced NRK-52e cells. Furthermore, DARTS coupled with LC-MS/MS analysis was used to identify candidate target proteins for 3. Subsequently, C1qbp knockdown using siRNA allowed us to validate the target protein of 3.
This study investigates an adaptive fault-tolerant control (FTC) for hypersonic flight vehicles (HFVs) with incipient faults and non-Gaussian stochastic output attitudes. In the nonlinear HFV ...dynamics, a hybrid fuzzy approximation method achieves the linearization, then the stochastic outputs are transformed into probability density functions (PDFs) via rational square root B-spline. The disturbance and faults are estimated simultaneously by an adaptive augmented observer. Then actuator faults are compensated by an bionic adaptive fault-tolerant controller to ensure that the output PDFs accurately track the expected PDFs, thereby matching actual attitude angles with the desired ones, the bionic prey adaptive law can make FTC accurately repair the incipient fault deviations. Lyapunov theory proves the robust stability of the scheme, and simulation illustrates the effectiveness.
This updated systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of perioperative corticosteroid administration versus placebo for esophageal cancer patients following ...scheduled esophagectomy.
We searched databases through June 30, 2023. We included articles on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing perioperative corticosteroid administration with placebo in esophageal cancer patients with esophagectomy. The outcomes were the death rate during hospitalization, length of hospital stay, and short-term complications. Risk ratios (RRs) and corresponding 95% confidence interval (CIs) for each estimated effect size were applied for dichotomous outcomes, and the mean difference (MD) and corresponding 95% CIs for each estimated effect size were applied for continuous outcomes. We used GRADE to evaluate the quality of each of the outcome and the level of recommendations.
Nine RCTs with 508 participants were included in this study. Severe outcomes, including the length of hospital stay, leakage, mortality during the hospitalization period in the corticosteroid group was comparable to that in the control group, but positive effects of corticosteroid administration were observed on the length of intensive care unit stay (MD -3.1, 95% CI - 5.43 to - 0.77), cardiovascular disorders (RR 0.44, 95% CI 0.21-0.94) and other general complications (RR 0.49, 95% CI 0.29-0.85).
Peri-operative intravenous corticosteroid administration may reduce cardiovascular disorders, other general complications and the length of ICU stay without carrying severe outcomes. More high quality RCTs are warranted to further investigate the effects of corticosteroids on postoperative mortality and complications for esophageal cancer patients with esophagectomy.
