The discovery of topological quantum states marks a new chapter in both condensed matter physics and materials sciences. By analogy to spin electronic system, topological concepts have been extended ...into phonons, boosting the birth of topological phononics (TPs). Here, we present a high-throughput screening and data-driven approach to compute and evaluate TPs among over 10,000 real materials. We have discovered 5014 TP materials and grouped them into two main classes of Weyl and nodal-line (ring) TPs. We have clarified the physical mechanism for the occurrence of single Weyl, high degenerate Weyl, individual nodal-line (ring), nodal-link, nodal-chain, and nodal-net TPs in various materials and their mutual correlations. Among the phononic systems, we have predicted the hourglass nodal net TPs in TeO
, as well as the clean and single type-I Weyl TPs between the acoustic and optical branches in half-Heusler LiCaAs. In addition, we found that different types of TPs can coexist in many materials (such as ScZn). Their potential applications and experimental detections have been discussed. This work substantially increases the amount of TP materials, which enables an in-depth investigation of their structure-property relations and opens new avenues for future device design related to TPs.
CD8
T cells play a critical role in the innate antitumour immune response. Recently, CD8
T cell dysfunction has been verified in various malignant cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer ...(NSCLC). However, the molecular biological mechanisms of CD8
T cell dysfunction in human NSCLC are still unclear.
The expression of circular ubiquitin-specific protease-7 (circUSP7) in NSCLC tissues, exosomes, and cell lines was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Exosomes were isolated from the culture medium of NSCLC cells and the plasma of NSCLC patients using an ultracentrifugation method and the ExoQuick Exosome Precipitation Solution kit. The exosomes were then characterized by transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), NanoSight and western blotting. The role of circUSP7 in CD8
T cell dysfunction was assessed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In vivo circular RNA (circRNA) precipitation (circRIP), RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), and luciferase reporter assays were performed to explore the molecular mechanisms of circUSP7 in CD8
T cells. In a retrospective study, the clinical characteristics and prognostic significance of circUSP7 in NSCLC tissues were determined.
The expression levels of circUSP7 were higher in human NSCLC tissues than in matched adjacent nontumour tissues. Increased levels of circUSP7 indicate poor clinical prognosis and CD8
T cell dysfunction in patients with NSCLC. The circUSP7 found in NSCLC patient plasma is predominantly secreted by NSCLC cells in an exosomal manner, and circUSP7 inhibits IFN-γ, TNF-α, Granzyme-B and Perforin secretion by CD8
T cells. Furthermore, circUSP7 inhibits CD8
T cell function by upregulating the expression of Src homology region 2 (SH2)-containing protein tyrosine phosphatase 2 (SHP2) via sponging miR-934. Finally, we show that circUSP7 may promote resistance to anti-PD1 immunotherapy in NSCLC patients.
Exosomal circUSP7 is predominantly secreted by NSCLC cells and contributes to immunosuppression by promoting CD8
T cell dysfunction in NSCLC. CircUSP7 induces resistance to anti-PD1 immunotherapy, providing a potential therapeutic strategy for NSCLC patients.

We report the optical properties of tetraphenylethene (TPE) and other TPE derivatives functionalised with an octyl group (TPE‐OCT) and polyethyleneglycol group (TPE‐PEG) in the side chain. We ...compared TPE‐OCT and TPE‐PEG with TPE in both organic solvents and under aqueous conditions. All materials exhibit aggregation‐induced emission, however, uncommonly, TPE‐PEG seems to aggregate in aqueous solution with enhanced photoluminescence quantum efficiency (PLQE) relative to that in organic solvents. All three materials can be photo‐oxidised in solution to their diphenylphenanthrene derivative by irradiation with UV light (at both ≈1 and ≈5 mW cm−2), with a subsequent enhancement in PL efficiency. The electron‐donating ether group increases the rate of oxidation relative to bare TPE and also photo‐oxidation was shown to be solvent and concentration dependent. Finally, photo‐oxidation was also demonstrated in the aggregate state.
Photo finish: The optical properties and photo‐oxidation of tetraphenylethene (TPE) and its derivatives in solution, the nanoparticle state and in a PMMA matrix are discussed (see scheme). This demonstration should be useful in encouraging the design of more photostable TPE molecules, which are commonly used in biosensing and imaging research.
Curcumin has exhibited a protective effect against development of renal fibrosis in animal models, however, its underlying molecular mechanisms are largely unclear. Therefore, we investigated the ...anti-fibrosis effects of curcumin in transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), and the mechanism by which it mediates the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt pathway. Human kidney tubular epithelial cells (HKCs) were treated with TGF-β1 or curcumin alone, or TGF-β1 in combination with curcumin. The effect of curcumin on cell proliferation was measured by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. Expression of E-cadherin, cytokeratin, vimentin, alpha smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), fibroblast-specific protein 1 (FSP1) and key proteins of Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway were analyzed by immunocytochemistry, real-time PCR and Western blot. Low dose curcumin (3.125 and 25 µmol/L) effectively promoted HKC proliferation. When HKCs were co-incubated with TGF-β1 and curcumin for 72 h, curcumin maintained the epithelial morphology in a dose-dependent manner, decreased expression of vimentin, α-SMA and FSP1 normally induced by TGF-β1, and increased expression of E-cadherin, cytokeratin. Importantly, we found that curcumin reduced Akt, mTOR and P70S6K phosphorylation, effectively suppressing the activity of the Akt/mTOR pathway in HKCs. Curcumin also promoted HKC proliferation, and antagonized TGF-β1-driven EMT through the inhibition of Akt/mTOR pathway activity, which may suggest an alternative therapy for renal fibrosis.
This paper proposes an improved vector space decomposition current control scheme for dual three-phase permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motors having two sets of three-phase windings spatially ...shifted by 30° electrical degrees. A proportional-integral (PI) and resonant (second) controller is developed for eliminating the current unbalance in αβ subplane, which is effective irrespective of the degree of current unbalance, while PI plus multifrequency resonant (second and sixth) control is employed to eliminate the current unbalance, fifth and seventh current harmonics in z 1 z 2 subplane. Compared with existing methods only accounting for current unbalance in z 1 z 2 subplane, the proposed method has considered the current unbalances in both z 1 z 2 and αβ subplanes and can eliminate them simultaneously at the steady-state of operation. Consequently, the full compensation of current unbalance can be achieved, by which both the current unbalance between two sets and current unbalance between phase windings in each set are eliminated. Meanwhile, the fifth and seventh current harmonics caused by nonsinusoidal back electromotive force and inverter nonlinearity can also be fully compensated. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified by a set of comparative experiments on a prototype dual three-phase PM machine system. It shows that fully balanced currents without the fifth and seventh current harmonics at the steady state of operation can be achieved.

Fractional-slot permanent magnet (PM) machines with an odd number of stator slots are attractive candidates for industrial applications due to their high torque density and low torque ripple. ...However, the unbalanced magnetic force is detrimental to the bearing and yields noise and vibration. This paper determines the existence criterion of UMF on both open-circuit and on-load conditions by analysis of air gap field and magnetic force waves. Only when the machine periodicity is one, will the open-circuit UMF be generated due to the mutual interaction between the modulated PM harmonics and the original PM harmonics. In addition, the existence of on-load UMF in machines with a periodicity of one is confirmed even when the slotting effect is ignored. Furthermore, among the five investigated machines with a given odd slot number of 9 but different pole numbers, the UMF in a machine with two poles is the smallest since the magnitude of the 2nd harmonic in the armature reaction is the smallest compared with other contributing harmonics. Meanwhile, the UMF in a machine with pole number 2 p = N s −1 is the largest due to the relatively larger magnitude of the ( p + 1) th armature reaction harmonic and the additive effect between the first order radial and tangential stresses.
