Antimicrobial-dependent microbial controlling ...is a useful way to control the spread and outbreak of plant pathogenic bacteria. However, the abuse and long-term use of antimicrobials also cause microbial antimicrobial resistance. As far as known, the mechanism of antimicrobial resistance in agricultural plant pathogenic bacteria still lacks prospecting. In this study, we explore the mechanism of Zhongshengmycin (ZSM)-resistance in Xoo by GC-MS-based metabolomic analysis. The results showed that the down-regulation of the TCA cycle was characteristic of antimicrobial resistance in Xoo, which was further demonstrated by the reduction of activity and gene expression levels of key enzymes in the TCA cycle. Furthermore, alanine was proven to reverse the ZSM resistance in Xoo by accelerating the TCA cycle in vivo. Our results are essential for understanding the mechanisms of ZSM resistance in Xoo and may provide new strategies for controlling this agricultural plant pathogen at the metabolic level.
Significant amounts of gases are emitted from the earth’s crust into the atmosphere before, during, and after major earthquakes. To understand the relationship between gas emissions, earthquakes, and ...tectonics, we conducted a thorough investigation using satellite data from AQUA AIRS. We focused on three major earthquakes: the 12 May 2008 Wenchuan MW 7.9 earthquake in China’s intra-continental plate, the 26 December 2004 Sumatra-Andaman MW 9.1 earthquake in Indonesia Island, and the 4 April 2010 Baja California MW 7.2 earthquake in Mexico’s active plate margin. Anomalies in the total column (TotCO) and multiple layers (CO VMR) of carbon monoxide were observed along fault zones, with peak values at the epicenter areas. Furthermore, temporal anomalies of TotCO and CO VMR appeared in the month of the Wenchuan earthquake in the intra-continent, three months prior to the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake and one month before the Baja California earthquake in the active plate margins, respectively. Notably, the duration of CO anomalies before earthquakes in active plate margins was longer than that in the intra-continental region, and the intensity of the CO anomaly in active plate margins was higher than that in the intra-continental region. The results show a profound correlation with both seismic and tectonic activities, which was particularly evident in the earthquake’s magnitude, rupture length, and the tectonic settings surrounding the epicenter. Furthermore, the type of the fault at which the earthquake occurred also played an important role in these CO anomaly variations. These findings support the identification of earthquake precursors and may help improve our understanding of earthquake forecasting and tectonics.

). The metabolic mechanism of kasugamycin (KA) resistance in Xoo by GC-MS showed that the downregulation of the pyruvate cycle (P cycle) is a crucial feature of Z173-R
resistance to KA. This conclusion was confirmed by the decreased enzyme activities and the related gene transcriptional level in the P cycle. Furfural (an inhibitor of pyruvate dehydrogenase) can effectively inhibit the P cycle and increase the resistance of Z173-R
to KA. Moreover, exogenous alanine can reduce the resistance of Z173-R
to KA by promoting the P cycle. Our work seems to be the first exploration of the mechanism of KA resistance in Xoo by GC-MS-based metabonomics approach. These results provide a new idea for developing metabolic regulation to address KA resistance in Xoo.

When a sodium leakage accident occurs in the sodium-cooled fast reactor, the leaked sodium reacts violently with the air in the form of droplets, resulting in the phenomenon of sodium spray fire. The ...droplet size distribution formed by liquid sodium injection is the key factor affecting the accident analysis of sodium spray fire. Based on the theory of the maximum entropy principle, a semi-empirical model of sodium spray droplet size distribution is constructed, which is constrained by the mass equation or the momentum equation with viscous resistance, respectively. Based on the existing liquid fuel droplet size distribution experiment results and the sodium spray fire experiment results, the semi-empirical model is verified, which shows that the prediction result with the semi-empirical model constrained by the momentum equation is in good agreement with the experimental result with the error of about 20%. Furthermore, the proposed sodium spray droplet model is compared with other models of the empirical model, the semi-empirical model, and the model based on the maximum entropy principle constrained by the simplified mass equation. The simulation result with the proposed model matches the experimental data better with minor error.
SUMMARY
In the profile analysis of faults, the distribution of GNSS sites directly affects the accuracy of the results of slip rate and locking depth. This paper discusses strategies for designing ...the layout of GNSS stations perpendicular to strike-slip faults in terms of site spacing and the Minimum Effective Distance, which is 20 times the locking depth of the fault. Three layout models are proposed considering the complexity of strike-slip faults: (1) Equal spacing layout, in which many stations are deployed in the far field, only a few are deployed in the near field. (2) Equal deformation layout, in which stations are densely arranged in the near field and sparsely arranged in the far field according to the frequency of deformation curve. (3) Equal slope spacing layout, in which stations are arranged according to the nonlinear degree of the deformation curve, with dense distribution in regions with high nonlinearity and sparse distribution in approximately linear regions. The three models were used to redistribute the sites in the Qiaojia to Dongchuan segment of the Xiaojiang fault profile, and their performances were compared with that of the current sites distribution of the segment. The results showed that model 1 is optimal for fitting the accuracy of slip rate and model 3 is optimal for the accuracy of locking depth. Overall, model 3 appears to be the best choice, considering that the accuracy of the locking depth is more difficult to control. One of the main purposes of deployment is to identify the seismogenic depth of the fault. With the locking depth of the fault gradually approaching the depth of the seismogenic layer during an interseismic period, the accuracy of observations of sites deployed at a preset value of historical seismogenic depth of the fault would improve.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common malignancy in males and the second most common in females worldwide. Distant metastases have a strong negative impact on the prognosis of CRC ...patients. The most common site of CRC metastases is the liver. Both disease progression and metastasis have been related to the patient's peripheral blood monocyte count. We therefore performed a case-control study to assess the relationship between the preoperative peripheral blood monocyte count and colorectal liver metastases (CRLM).
Clinical data from 117 patients with colon cancer and 93 with rectal cancer who were admitted to the Chinese People's Liberation Army General Hospital (Beijing, China) between December 2003 and May 2015 were analysed retrospectively, with the permission of both the patients and the hospital.
Preoperative peripheral blood monocyte counts, the T and N classifications of the primary tumour and its primary site differed significantly between the two groups (P < 0.001, P < 0.001, P = 0.002, P < 0.001), whereas there were no differences in the sex, age, degree of tumour differentiation or largest tumour diameter. Lymph node metastasis and a high preoperative peripheral blood monocyte count were independent risk factors for liver metastasis (OR: 2.178, 95%CI: 1.148~4.134, P = 0.017; OR: 12.422, 95%CI: 5.076~30.398, P < 0.001), although the risk was lower in patients with rectal versus colon cancer (OR: 0.078, 95%CI: 0.020~0.309, P < 0.001). Primary tumour site (P<0.001), degree of tumour differentiation (P = 0.009), T, N and M classifications, TNM staging and preoperative monocyte counts (P<0.001) were associated with the 5-year overall survival (OS) of CRC patients. A preoperative peripheral blood monocyte count > 0.505 × 109 cells/L, high T classification and liver metastasis were independent risk factors for 5-year OS (RR: 2.737, 95% CI: 1.573~ 4.764, P <0.001; RR: 2.687, 95%CI: 1.498~4.820, P = 0.001; RR: 4.928, 95%CI: 2.871~8.457, P < 0.001).
The demonstrated association between preoperative peripheral blood monocyte count and liver metastasis in patients with CRC recommends the former as a useful predictor of postoperative prognosis in CRC patients.

Despite coupling fractions being extensively used in the interseismic period, the coexistence of locking and creeping mechanisms and the correlation between the coupling fraction and locking depth ...remain poorly understood because of the lack of a physical model. To overcome these limitations, in this study, we propose a coupling fraction model for interpreting the motion of non-fully coupled strike-slip faults based on the classic two-dimensional strike-slip fault model and the superposition principle. The model was constructed using numerous tiny, alternating creeping and locking segments. The deformation produced by the model is the same as that of the classic two-dimensional strike-slip fault, except for the scale factor. The model and definition of the coupling fraction can be perfectly integrated. Based on the model, we put forward a varying decoupled fraction with depth model, which considers the depth-dependent coupling fraction. The two models provide deep insights into the deformation characteristics of quasi-arctangent curves produced by non-fully coupled strike-slip faults and the local and macroscopic characteristics of fault locking in the interseismic period.
Preperitoneal herniation is a rare complication after transabdominal preperitoneal patch plasty (TAPP) and may be caused by inadequate peritoneal closure. We herein report two cases of postoperative ...small bowel obstruction due to preperitoneal herniation through a disrupted peritoneum.
Two men in their 70s were admitted to our center because of small bowel obstruction after TAPP. After examinations and unsuccessful conservative treatment, emergency laparoscopic exploration was performed. Preperitoneal herniation through the disrupted peritoneum was found. The herniated small bowel was reduced and the peritoneum was properly reclosed. The patients recovered and were discharged with normal bowel function.
Inadequate peritoneal closure may cause preperitoneal herniation and lead to postoperative small bowel obstruction and even death. Hernia surgeons can avoid this complication by improving their suture technique and paying attention to the procedure details.
