Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in the world, and the most frequent cancer among women. Moreover, there are factors that influence the risk for breast cancer including the age, genetic ...and endocrine factors, and lifestyle.
To evaluate the consumption of fatty acids; compare the fatty acids composition in the breast adipose tissue of women with breast cancer and benign breast disease as well as potential risk factors; and describe the genotypic frequency of the Pro12Ala PPARγ polymorphism.
A hospital-based case-control study was conducted including incident cases (n= 38 breast cancer; n= 75 benign breast disease; n= 166 control). Lifestyle features, socioeconomic issues, dietary intake, anthropometry, and blood and tissue data were assessed.
No differences were observed for fatty acids intake. Interestingly, lauric acid (p = 0.001), myristic acid (p = 0.036), stearic acid (p = 0.031), and total saturated fatty acids (SFAs) (p = 0.048) had lower concentrations in BC than in BBD women, while palmitoleic acid (p = 0.022), erucic acid (p = 0.002), total monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) (p = 0.039) and oleic acid/stearic acid ratio (p = 0.015) increased. There was no significant association between PPARγ polymorphism and studied groups (p = 0.977). The age at first full pregnancy (p = 0.004) was significantly associated with the development BC, whereas BMI (p = 0.005); percentage of body fat (p = 0.024); physical activity (p = 0.036); and age at menarche (p = 0.008), at first full pregnancy (p < 0.001), and of first mammogram (p = 0.018) were significantly associated with the development of BBD.
The results suggest a different fatty acids composition of breast adipose tissue, a biomarker of long-term dietary intake, particularly for SFAs, MUFA and 18: 1 n-9/18: 00 ratio. Our findings also show that are differences in the factors related to the development of BC and BBC.
O recurso a técnicas de procriação medicamente assistida (PMA) tem sido descrito como um acontecimento exigente física e psicologicamente. No presente estudo, e utilizando um desenho longitudinal., ...pretendemos descrever as mudanças no ajustamento psicossocial desde o momento do tratamento até um ano após o tratamento, em 33 casais inférteis portugueses, bem como avaliar, de forma retrospetiva, a experiência do tratamento. Os resultados mostraram que, quando comparado o momento tratamento com um ano mais tarde, os casais cujos tratamentos tinham sido bem- sucedidos tiveram um aumento das emoções positivas e diminuição das negativas. No entanto, de um modo geral, todos os casais avaliaram de forma positiva o tratamento de PMA, independentemente do seu resultado, apesar de os casais que alcançaram uma gravidez terem avaliado a experiência de forma mais positiva. Pode concluir-se que a reatividade emocional e a avaliação da experiência são em parte influenciadas pelo resultado do tratamento.
This article traces the transformation of the system of control and repression of Brazilian pharmaceutical activities between the 1930s and the 1970s, through a Foucauldian framework of "differential ...management of illegalisms." The period between 1930 and 1960 can be understood as a process of negotiation between pharmacists and state agencies that achieved a compromise on the differential management of illegalisms in relation to drugs, with a clear distinction between "laymen" and "professionals." This compromise came into question during the dictatorship, due to institutional transformations that reinforced the autonomy of institutions of repression and a military struggle against subversion and corruption. Pharmacists and laymen alike were considered potential suspects. This suspicion even extended to the civilian agencies that were at the core of the regulation of the licit drug market. These developments profoundly changed the way illegalisms committed by professionals and state officials were treated, blurring the boundaries that had been established between laymen, professionals, inspectors, and industrialists. The final section of the article focuses on the various ways in which institutions of repression focused on pharmacists and state regulatory control agencies as potential places of subversive activity or corruption.
Teak (Tectona grandis) is a tree species native to South-east Asia and widely cultivated in Latin America. In Mato Grosso state, Brazil, teak is the second-most planted forest species due to its high ...productivity resulting from high adaptability to the soil and climate conditions of the region. However, there is little information about the genetic diversity of improved genotypes cultivated in the state. Thus, the objective of this study was to quantify, through ISSR (inter-simple sequence repeat) molecular markers, the genetic diversity of improved teak genotypes used in different plantations in Mato Grosso state. For this, 31 ISSR primers were tested on 113 genotypes separated into nine populations. Six primers were selected to perform the analyses, resulting in 55 amplified loci. All selected primers showed a high polymorphic information content. Considering all genotypes in the Mato Grosso population, the percentage of polymorphic loci (P) was 96.4%, the genetic diversity according to Nei՚s genetic diversity index (H) was 1.96, and according to Shannon՚s information/diversity index (I), it was 0.53. Considering each population individually, P varied from 50.9% to 90.9%, H from 0.21 to 0.33, and I from 0.30 to 0.49. Most of the genetic diversity observed was within populations (86%). Four genetic groups were identified, with a high level of admixture among them. The existence of a considerable genetic diversity within populations indicates the possibility of exploring this variation in genetic improvement programmes. However, the introduction of new genetic materials is recommended to increase the genetic base of this species in Brazil.

Abstract Background: The ABCDE (Awakening and Breathing Coordination of daily sedation and ventilator removal trials, Delirium monitoring and management, and Early mobility and exercise) and ABCDEF ...(Assessment, prevent and manage pain, Both spontaneous awakening and spontaneous breathing trials, Choice of analgesia and sedation, assess, prevent and manage Delirium, Early mobility and exercise, Family engagement) care bundles consist of small sets of evidence-based interventions and are part of the science behind Intensive Care Unit (ICU) liberation. This review sought to analyse the process of implementation of ABCDE and ABCDEF care bundles in ICUs, identifying barriers, facilitators and changes in perception and attitudes of healthcare professionals; and to estimate care bundle effectiveness and safety. Methods: We selected qualitative and quantitative studies addressing the implementation of ABCDE and ABCDEF bundles in the ICU, identified on MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Epistemonikos, PsycINFO, Virtual Health Library and Open Grey, without restriction on language or date of publication, up to June 2018. The outcomes measured were ICU and hospital length of stay; mechanical ventilation time; incidence and prevalence of delirium or coma; level of agitation and sedation; early mobilization; mortality in ICU and hospital; change in perception, attitude or behaviour of the stakeholders; and change in knowledge of health professionals. Two reviewers independently selected the studies, performed data extraction, and assessed risk of bias and methodological quality. A meta-analysis of random effects was performed. Results: Twenty studies were included, 13 of which had a predominantly qualitative and 7 a quantitative design (31,604 participants). The implementation strategies were categorized according to the taxonomy developed by the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization of Care Group and eighty strategies were identified. The meta-analysis results showed that implementation of the bundles may reduce length of ICU stay, mechanical ventilation time, delirium, ICU and hospital mortality, and promoted early mobilization in critically-ill patients. Conclusions : This study can contribute to the planning and execution of the implementation process of ABCDE and ABCDEF care bundles in ICUs. However, the effectiveness and safety of these bundles need to be corroborated by further studies with greater methodological rigor. Protocol registration: PROSPERO CRD42019121307.
Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar níveis de energia líquida e ractopamina em dietas para leitoas em terminação sob conforto térmico. Foram utilizadas 40 leitoas com peso inicial de 67,4 ± 3,4 kg, ...distribuídas em delineamento de blocos ao acaso em esquema fatorial 2 × 4, composto de dois níveis de ractopamina, 0 e 20 ppm, em combinação aos níveis de energia líquida de 2.300; 2.424; 2.548 e 2.668 kcal/kg de ração, com cinco repetições, considerando cada animal uma unidade experimental. O período experimental teve duração de 28 dias. A temperatura do ar, a umidade relativa, a temperatura de globo negro e o índice de temperatura de globo e umidade foram de 21,5 ± 2,8ºC, 91,7 ± 6,8%, 21,7 ± 2,9ºC e 70,1 ± 3,7, respectivamente. Houve interação entre níveis de energia líquida e ractopamina, uma vez que a inclusão de 20 ppm de ractopamina em dietas contendo 2.668 kcal de energia líquida/kg de ração ocasionou redução da espessura de toucinho e aumento da porcentagem de carne magra e do índice de bonificação de carcaças. A inclusão de 20 ppm de ractopamina proporcionou aumento do ganho diário de peso e melhora na conversão alimentar, proporcionando maior peso de carcaça quente e aumentando a quantidade de carne magra nas carcaças. Dietas suplementadas com 20 ppm de ractopamina melhoram o desempenho e aumentam a produção de carne em leitoas em terminação. A ractopamina é ineficiente em reduzir a deposição de gordura e aumentar o percentual de carne magra na carcaça de leitoas alimentadas com dietas contendo baixa concentração de energia. O nível de 2.300 kcal de energia líquida/kg de ração atende à exigência nutricional de leitoas em terminação sob conforto térmico.
O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar e comparar retrospetivamente o estilo de vida (EV) de mulheres antes e durante a gravidez; descrever a adaptação individual e relacional na transição para a ...maternidade e os resultados obstétricos; e avaliar a associação entre hábitos de EV e estes indicadores. A amostra foi composta por 98 mães, a maioria casadas ou em união de facto, com ensino secundário ou superior, nulíparas e que planearam a gravidez. A bateria de avaliação incluiu um questionário sociodemográfico, a Escala de Avaliação das Emoções, o Inventário de Sintomas Psicopatológicos e escalas de adjetivos para avaliar os domínios conjugal e parental. Os resultados mostraram uma mudança positiva no EV durante a gravidez em comparação ao período precedente. Foi encontrada uma associação significativa entre a adoção de hábitos de vida saudáveis e menor sintomatologia psicopatológica e maior reatividade emocional positiva. Estes resultados salientam a importância da avaliação de diferentes componentes do EV e a sua associação com diversos indicadores individuais e relacionais para uma melhor compreensão da adaptação das mulheres na transição para a maternidade.
The purpose of this present study was to know the pharmacoepidemiological profile of pregnant women carrying HIV, the prevention actions against vertical transmission, and evaluate the service ...respecting the patients' level of satisfaction. It was developed a quali-quantitative longitudinal study, with the sample being composed by pregnant women carrying HIV attended at the Pharmaceutical Care Service of a public hospital of Fortaleza - state of Ceará, during the period between January and September, 2007. The data were collected by means of follow-up cards, patients' medical history and, finally, interviews to verify the users' level of satisfaction related to the service. Twenty seven pregnant and parturient women have participated in the study. The mean profile found was of a single woman, aged in the range between 18 and 28 years, of Caucasian race or dark colored, with familial revenue below the minimum wage, having elementary or high school, and being unemployed. It was observed that 77.8% (n=21) of patients followed all prevention strategies against maternal-infant transmission. Twenty nine drug related problems have been detected, out of which 51.7% (n=15) were resolved. The general level of satisfaction respecting the Pharmaceutical Care Service was quite satisfactory. By means of the Pharmaceutical Care Service, the pharmacist professional effectively collaborates for the correct utilization of medications, and this action results directly in a decrease of HIV vertical transmission.
Objetivou-se com o presente estudo conhecer o perfil farmacoepidemiológico das gestantes portadoras do vírus HIV, as ações de prevenção da transmissão vertical e avaliar o serviço quanto ao nível de satisfação das pacientes. Realizou-se estudo quali-quantitativo, longitudinal, sendo a amostra composta pelas gestantes portadoras do vírus HIV atendidas no Serviço de Atenção Farmacêutica de um hospital público de Fortaleza-CE, no período de janeiro a setembro de 2007. Coletaram-se os dados por meio de fichas de seguimento, prontuários das pacientes e, finalmente, entrevistas para verificar o nível de satisfação das usuárias em relação ao serviço. Participaram do estudo 27 gestantes e parturientes infectadas pelo HIV. O perfil encontrado foi de mulheres solteiras, na faixa etária de 18 a 28 anos, de cor branca ou parda, com renda familiar inferior a um salário mínimo, com ensino fundamental ou médio e desempregadas. Observou-se que 77,8% (n=21) pacientes seguiram todas as estratégias de prevenção da transmissão materno-infantil. Detectaram-se 29 problemas relacionados ao uso de medicamentos, dos quais 51,7% (n=15) foram resolvidos. O nível de satisfação geral em relação ao serviço de atenção farmacêutica foi bastante satisfatório. Por meio do serviço de atenção farmacêutica, o profissional farmacêutico colabora com a utilização correta dos medicamentos, podendo repercutir diretamente na redução da transmissão vertical do HIV.
ResumoEste artigo é um ensaio teórico em que são comparados dois métodos de avaliação da sustentabilidade de agroecossistemas - IDEA e MESMIS - por meio dos critérios de análise: conceito de ...sustentabilidade; objetivos e público-alvo; flexibilidade e adaptabilidade; abordagem sistêmica e envolvimento de stakeholders. Os critérios foram selecionados visando contribuir com escolhas futuras para avaliação da sustentabilidade em unidades produtivas agroecológicas. O estudo concluiu que ambos os métodos podem ser empregados, a depender dos propósitos, condições e contexto da avaliação. O MESMIS é mais flexível e participativo, mas requer equipe multidisciplinar capacitada para apoiar a aplicação junto aos agricultores, podendo haver problemas de aderência ao conceito de sustentabilidade. O IDEA tem estrutura rígida e coerente com um claro conceito de sustentabilidade, podendo ser aplicado pelo próprio agricultor com apoio de um técnico, mas requer adaptações prévias ao contexto local e à disponibilidade de dados.
