In this study, disposable microfluidic micromixers were fabricated to effectively isolate
oocysts from water samples, while allowing direct observation and enabling quantification of oocysts captured in the device using high quality immunofluorescence microscopy. In parallel, quantitative analysis of the capture yield was carried out by analyzing the waste from the microfluidics outlet with an Imaging Flow Cytometer. At the optimal flow rate, capture efficiencies up to 96% were achieved in spiked samples.

A nearly equiatomic MnNi alloy was fabricated from the elemental powders by means of mechanical alloying in a planetary ball milling apparatus. : Beurteilung der Wirksamkeit der antiarrhythmischen Therapie von fetalen supraventrikulären Tachykardien (SVT) und Vorhofflattern (aVF) sowie Darstellung der prä- und postnatalen ...Behandlungs-ergebnisse.
Methoden/Resultate
: Eine atriale Tachykardie wurde bei 23 konsekutiven Feten diagnostiziert; davon hatten 20 eine SVT und drei aVF. Die Diagnosestellung der Arrhythmie erfolgte im Mittel in der 32. SSW. Die fetale Herzfrequenz lag zwischen 170 und 305/Min. Herzinsuffizienzzeichen bestanden bei 13 (57%) der Feten. Mit Ausnahme von zwei Fällen wurde bei allen eine diaplazentare medikamentöse Therapie mit maternaler Digitalisapplikation begonnen. Dies führte nach durchschnittlich 7 Tagen zu einer Wiederherstellung eines stabilen Sinusrhythmus in 12 (57%) der Patienten. Bei 9 Feten wurde ein zweites Medikament (Verapamil 2, Flecainid 7) hinzugefügt, wodurch ein Sinusrhythmus nach durchschnittlich 15 Tagen bei allen Feten erzielt werden konnte. Postpartal wurde die Therapie bei 19 Neugeborenen gestoppt. In einem Überwachungszeitraum von 1 bis 21 Jahren blieben elf Patienten (48%) rezidivfrei. Bei zwölf Säuglingen (52%) kam es zu einem Wiederauftreten der Arrhythmie: einer blieb ohne Therapie, sechs wurden tachykardiefrei nach einer Therapiedauer von einem Jahr, fünf benötigten eine Weiterführung der Medikation nach dem 1. Lebensjahr. Die postnatale Klassifikation der Arrhythmie im Oberflächen-EKG ergab folgende Zuordnung: AV-Reentry-Tachykardie (6), permanente junktionale Reentry-Tachykardie (2), fokale atriale Tachykardie (3), multifokale atriale Tachykardie (1).
Fazit
: Bei allen präpartal behandelten Patienten wurde eine Wiederherstellung des Sinusrhythmus erreicht und bei 48% postnatal ohne Therapie aufrechterhalten. Insgesamt sistierte die Tachykardie bei 78% nach dem 1. Lebensjahr ohne weitere Therapie. Präpartal ist eine konsequente pharmakologische Behandlung ist erforderlich, um supraventrikuläre Tachykardien zu beherrschen.
Ziel dieser retrospektiven Studie war die Morphologie (Strict Criteria) und die Chromatinkondensation (Anilin Blue Färbung)) von Spermatozoen bei subfertilen Männern zu untersuchen, um festzustellen, ...ob diese Parameter zur Vorhersage des Behandlungserfolges bei der Intrauterinen Insemination dienen.
Insgesamt wurden bei 185 Ehepaaren, bei denen Clomiphencitrat/HMG zur ovariellen Stimulation verwandt wurde, behandelt und die Ergebnisse analysiert. Die Morphologie wurde nach modifizierter Papanicolaou-Färbung bewertet, während die Chromatinkondensation des Spermatozoen (DNA–Integrität) durch Anilin –Blue Färbung der nativen Spermatozoen bestimmt wurde.
Die Patienten wurden aufgrund der Chromatinkondensation im Ejakulat in zwei Gruppen aufgeteilt: In der ersten Gruppe I (n=101) wurden mehr als 25% der Spermatozoen blau gefärbt (nicht vollständig kondensiert), während in der zweiten Gruppe II (n=84) weniger als 25% der Spermatozoen keine Farbe annahmen (voll kondensiert). In der Gruppe I betrugen die Inseminations- und die Schwangerschaftsrate 2,4 bzw. 8,9%, während in der Gruppe II die korrespondierenden Raten 2,6 und 13,8% betrugen; dadurch ist ein signifikanter Unterschied (p=0,022) zwischen den beiden Gruppen bezüglich der Schwangerschaftsrate festzustellen.
Die Spermatozoen wurden hinsichtlich ihrer Morphologie in 3 Gruppen eingeteilt: Gruppe A (n=25) mit 0–4%, Gruppe B (n=50) mit 5–13% und Gruppe C (n=83) mit mindestens 14% normaler Morphologie. Die Inseminations- und Schwangerschaftsrate betrugen bei Gruppe A 2,4 und 6,4%, in Gruppe B 2,8 und 9,2%, wohingegen in Gruppe C eine Inseminationsrate von 2,4 und eine Schwangerschaftsrate von 15,2% eruiert werden konnte. Daraus ergibt sich bezogen auf die Schwangerschaftsrate ein signifikanter Unterschied zwischen Gruppe A und Gruppe C (p=0,016). Zusammenfassend ist festzustellen, dass sowohl die Chromatinkondensation, als auch die Morphologie der Spermatozoen einen Prognosefaktor darstellen und bei jedem Spermiogramm vor einer IUI durchgeführt werden sollten.

Introduction: Despite huge investments in new technology and transportation infrastructure, terrible accidents still remain a reality of traffic. Methods: Severe traffic accidents were analyzed from ...four prevailing modes of today's transportations: sea, air, railway, and road. Main root causes of all four accidents were defined with implementation of the approach, based on Flanagan's critical incident technique. In accordance with Molan's Availability Humanization model (AH model), possible preventive or humanization interventions were defined with the focus on technology, environment, organization, and human factors. Results: According to our analyses, there are significant similarities between accidents. Root causes of accidents, human behavioral patterns, and possible humanization measures were presented with rooted graphs. It is possible to create a generalized model graph, which is similar to rooted graphs, for identification of possible humanization measures, intended to prevent similar accidents in the future. Majority of proposed humanization interventions are focused on organization. Organizational interventions are effective in assurance of adequate and safe behavior. Conclusions: Formalization of root cause analysis with rooted graphs in a model offers possibility for implementation of presented methods in analysis of particular events. Implementation of proposed humanization measures in a particular analyzed situation is the basis for creation of safety culture.
The use of novel isolates of Trichoderma with efficient antagonistic capacity against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici (FOL) is a promising alternative strategy to pesticides for tomato wilt ...management. We evaluated the antagonistic activity of 30 isolates of T. asperellum against 4 different isolates of FOL. The production of extracellular cell wall degrading enzymes of the antagonistic isolates was also measured. The random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) method was applied to assess the genetic variability among the T. asperellum isolates. All of the T. asperellum isolates significantly reduced the mycelial growth of FOL isolates but the amount of growth reduction varied significantly as well. There was a correlation between the antagonistic capacity of T. asperellum isolates towards FOL and their lytic enzyme production. Isolates showing high levels of chitinase and ${\beta}$-1,3-glucanase activities strongly inhibited the growth of FOL isolates. RAPD analysis showed a high level of genetic variation among T. asperellum isolates. The UPGMA dendrogram revealed that T. asperellum isolates could not be grouped by their antagonistic behavior or lytic enzymes production. Six isolates of T. asperellum were highly antagonistic towards FOL and potentially could be used in commercial agriculture to control tomato wilt. Our results are consistent with the conclusion that understanding the genetic variation within Trichoderma isolates and their biochemical capabilities are required for the selection of effective indigenous fungal strains for the use as biocontrol agents.

Pure honeybee venom collected from Korea has been extensively used in livestock and folk medicines for a natural antibacterial agent. In the present study, we isolated and purified a novel ...antibacterial peptide fraction against Staphylococcus aureus from honeybee venom by liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. The average molecular mass of the peptide was estimated to be 895.4 Da. The antibacterial activity of the peptide was evaluated in terms of Minimal inhibitory concentration. Minimal inhibitory concentration value was about 0.1㎍/ml. The peptide can be considered as a potential compound for the development of new natural antibacterial agents for use in livestock and human.
