Federal officials have denied Steve Sipek a license to legally exhibit the exotic cats because the facility failed to meet the standards of the Animal Welfare Act. Sipek is the subject on an ongoing ...investigation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, according to spokeswoman Karen Eggert. She could not comment on the investigation but said the agency's focus is on the treatment of the animals. Federal inspectors denied Sipek a permit because he had no veterinary staff and because of problems with wiring on some cages, Sipek said. State inspectors also noted faulty wiring and issued Sipek a warning for failure to use proper clamps, ties or braces of equivalent strength as the cage material. Sipek said he already has remedied the problem.
Let's get this straight. One of Steve Sipek's tigers once mauled a woman painting his cage, then two years later escaped his pen and was shot dead by a state wildlife officer fearing for his life. ...Now Sipek's Loxahatchee compound -- home to four more big cats -- is being investigated for violating the federal Animal Welfare Act.

Jul. 17--The outcry over the shooting death of Bobo the tiger has escalated from candlelight vigils to death threats as state wildlife officials cope with the public backlash. The slain feline, an ...international headline-maker since it escaped Monday from owner Steve Sipek's Loxahatchee home, was killed Tuesday by a state wildlife officer in self-defense, state wildlife authorities said. A candlelight vigil held about a mile from Sipek's home Thursday night included signs saying, "Save a tiger, shoot a wildlife officer." At 6 p.m. Sunday, Sipek will hold Bobo's public funeral at his C Road compound.
Wildlife officers shot and killed a 600-pound tiger called Bobo yesterday after it escaped from the Florida home of a B-movie actor who once played Tarzan. Officers hunted the fugitive cat for more ...than 24 hours in thick scrub around Loxahatchee, 80 kilometres north of Miami.
Jun. 28--Gov. Ernie Fletcher's administration may have violated a state regulation that requires it to notify the Personnel Board when it changes the way it fills jobs. State regulations require the ...Personnel Cabinet to notify the Personnel Board whenever it makes such changes, and the cabinet has failed to do so, Mark Sipek, the board's executive director, said yesterday. Today, the Personnel Board will send a letter to Personnel Secretary Erwin Roberts, a Fletcher appointee, asking for more information about the apparent lapse, Sipek said. The disclosure regulation is meant to help the board fulfill its watchdog rule by keeping it informed, he said.
