Ta je poskrbela za potreben investicijski kapital, poleg tega pa je bilo potrebno dodati še nekaj družbenega kapitala, ki so ga v obliki delnic prispevali razni posestniki od Šentjurja do Dobovca. Nekateri so bili tudi od drugod, med njimi je najbolj izstopal hrvaški škof Josip Juraj Strossmayer. Iz Šmarja pri Jelšah so delnice kupili Občina, Hranilnica in posojilnica ter šmarski trgovci in gostilničarji Tarschitz, Jagodič, Tančič, Falim, Wagner in Laschnigg.Prvi vlak je po železniški progi med Grobelnim in Rogatcem zapeljal 21. decembra 1903. Proga je bila na tej relaciji zgrajena zaradi razvoja turizma, kmetijstva in industrije, saj je po izgradnji prvih železniških prog na Slovenskem na območju Obsotelja nastalo prometno zatišje. Železniška povezava je bila pomembna tudi zaradi prevoza gostov v zdravilišče Rogaška Slatina, ki so jih pred tem prevažali s kočijami iz železniške postaje v Poljčanah. Z vlakom pa je bilo lažje razvažati tudi mineralno vodo iz rogaških vrelcev, ki so jo že od konca 17. stoletja pošiljali po vsej Evropi. Številnim industrijskim obratom, ki so se ukvarjali z lesarstvom, steklarstvom in kamnoseštvom, je železniški promet omogočal enostavnejši prevoz izdelkov v druge kraje Slovenije ter tudi po Evropi.Literatura: K. Še več, za potrebe dostopa do železniške postaje so morali na novo zgraditi današnjo Ljubljansko cesto, saj je do tedaj promet potekal po današnji drevoredni cesti po Marofu. Železnica se je mestu približala šele leta 1914, ko je bila proga podaljšana do Metlike in Karlovca in ko so nad Loko zgradili mogočni železniški most in postajo v Kandiji.
