Anticipating last autumn's relaunch at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Manhattan, Gluckman Mayner Architects helped to reconceive a key moneymaker, notes Craig Kellogg.
An analysis of the range and content of the American artist Andy Warhol's collections that now form the core of the archive at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. The author describes Warhol's ...passion for collecting and the types of object that make up his collection, focusing on his 610 cardboard box Time Capsules. He compares the traditional idea and contents of a time capsule with Warhol's version, and describes the process of cataloguing them and producing an inventory. He discusses the ways in which the contents of Warhol's Time Capsules reflect particular phases of his career, shed light on his attitudes towards art and sexuality, and provide information on his business practices. He also considers the Capsules not just as documentations of Warhol's personal life and interests but also as records of historical movements and styles in American art in general.
