In the present study, the origin of recurrent rearrangements involving chromosome 6 in 3.2% of cells of Melolontha melolontha (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae) was investigated. Various chromosome staining ...techniques, including C-banding, Giemsa and silver staining, as well as fluorescence in situ hybridization with a human 28S rDNA probe, were applied to M. melolontha chromosome spreads. In addition, related species of the genera Melolontha and Protaetia were studied. On chromosome 6 of M. melolontha, there is a fragile site-like structure which corresponds to an interstitial nucleolus organizer region (NOR). Despite this instability, the NOR remains unique and interstitial in this species, as well as in the other species studied. It is proposed that the intercalary position of the NOR both facilitates the detection of its fragile site-like instability and correlates with its relative stability during evolution. We explain this apparent paradox by strong counter-selection for imbalances of the chromosome fragment distal to the interstitial NORs, which would recurrently occur in the progeny of translocation carriers. Thus, the frequent telomeric position of the NORs in most animal and plant taxa would have no functional rationale but would be the consequence of selection against the meiotic transmission of chromosome imbalances.
There is geographical variation in the morphology and genetics of Wuchereria bancrofti, the major cause of human lymphatic filariasis. This study aims to compare morphological and genetic variation ...of W. bancrofti microfilariae recovered from carriers in Lao PDR, Myanmar and Thailand. Six morphological parameters (body length, cephalic space length and width, length of head to nerve ring, body width at nerve ring, Innenkȍrper length and number of column nuclei between the cephalic space and nerve ring) were evaluated from microfilariae in Giemsa-stained thick blood films. A portion of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene of mitochondrial DNA was sequenced and analysed. Wuchereria bancrofti microfilariae showed a wide variation in their morphology and morphometry among three countries. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed that all microfilariae belonged to W. bancrofti. Higher mutation frequencies were observed in samples from Myanmar, relative to Thailand and Lao PDR. This study highlights the morphological disparities of microfilariae and genetic variability within W. bancrofti among three geographical locations. We found that reported morphometric differences between localities were less clear-cut than previously thought. Further studies are needed to determine the microfilarial periodicity in Lao PDR.
With the many advantages of using cloud computing, Azure Storage is a robust platform that helps you shift faster to the cloud by providing scalable, durable and highly available data storage ...options. For developers, it provides a rapid development environment that supports building large-scale applications to support new scenarios on the cloud, server, mobile and web. For IT professionals, it reduces complexity of managing, protecting and replicating data. This book will make you familiar with the Azure storage in terms of architecture and components. It starts with the basics of storage accounts, which give access to the four basic services the Blob, Table, Queue, and File storage services. These services are exposed through a REST API that makes it possible for client libraries to implement most of their functionality in a wide range of popular programming languages. Emphasizing the Windows Azure Client Library for .NET, we will deal with storing and retrieving unstructured data with Blobs, then will move to Tables to insert and update entities in a structured NoSQL fashion. Then we will discover Queues as a reliable messaging service, and after that we will show File storage that allows you to migrate legacy applications data to the cloud to end with transient fault handling and service monitoring.
Performing smart computations in a context of cloud computing and big data is highly appreciated today. It allows customers to fully benefit from cloud computing capacities (such as processing or ...storage) without losing confidentiality of sensitive data. Fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) is a smart category of encryption schemes that enables working with the data in its encrypted form. It permits us to preserve confidentiality of our sensible data and to benefit from cloud computing capabilities. While FHE is combined with verifiable computation, it offers efficient procedures for outsourcing computations over encrypted data to a remote, but non-trusted, cloud server. The resulting scheme is called Verifiable Fully Homomorphic Encryption (VFHE). Currently, it has been demonstrated by many existing schemes that the theory is feasible but the efficiency needs to be dramatically improved in order to make it usable for real applications. One subtle difficulty is how to efficiently handle the noise. This paper aims to introduce an efficient and symmetric verifiable FHE based on a new mathematic structure that is noise free. In our encryption scheme, the noise is constant and does not depend on homomorphic evaluation of ciphertexts. The homomorphy of our scheme is obtained from simple matrix operations (addition and multiplication). The running time of the multiplication operation of our encryption scheme in a cloud environment has an order of a few milliseconds.
Although there are numerous recent works focusing on fractal properties of DNA and chromatin, many issues regarding changes in chromatin fractality during physiological aging remain unclear. In this ...study, we present results indicating that in mice, there is an age-related reduction of chromatin fractal complexity in a population of spleen follicular cells (SFCs). Spleen tissue was obtained from 16 mice and fixated in Carnoy solution. The youngest animal was newborn, and each animal was exactly 1 month older than the previous. We performed fractal analysis of SFC chromatin structure, stained using Giemsa technique. Fractal analysis was done in a plugin algorithm of ImageJ software. We also performed gray-level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) analysis of all chromatin structures with the calculation of parameters such as angular second moment and inverse difference moment. Giemsa-stained SFC chromatin exhibited an age-dependent reduction of fractal dimension with statistically significant (p<0.01) linear trend. Moreover, there was a statistically significant increase of SFC chromatin lacunarity. The chromatin GLCM parameters did not significantly change. To our knowledge, this is the first study to perform fractal and GLCM analyses of SFC chromatin and to investigate potential changes of fractal parameters during postnatal development.
Digital Twins can be seen as powering the next generation of IoT-connected solutions. Digital Twins model the real world by using historical and real-time data to represent the past and present and ...simulate the predictable future. Digital twins are related to a set of concepts such as digital representation and 3D visualization, integration, monitoring, control, computation, prediction, and decision-making. They are digital replicas of physical objects having bidirectional data flow. The physical object and its digital twin are synchronized, and the simulations, optimizations and visualizations are in real-time. Using Digital Twins supports the processes of gaining insights that drive better products, optimize operations, reduce costs, and improve the customer experience. These benefits can be used in any type of environment, including buildings, factories, farms, power grids, and even entire cities. Data gathered as a result of the implementation of Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) techniques allows the creation of digital twins though out the farm. As a result, farmers can manage the farm remotely based on real-time digital information, rather than relying on direct observation and manual tasks on the ground. This allows them to act immediately in case of deviations, simulate the effect of interventions based on real-life data and automate various decision-making processes. The main goal of the article is modelling and simulations of digital twins for smart farming in a Cloud environment. During operational use, digital twins can be used not only to monitor and simulate the effects of interventions but also to remotely control objects by using automated actuators. Finally, digital twins are also very valuable for traceability, compliance, and training as they optimize farm operations and provide measurable data for increasing sustainability.
The series is one of the most popular formats of television programs, but the emotional aspects of its content have not attracted much attention from researchers. Furthermore, the cinemetric ...approach, in which move data are quantitively examined, has not been used to analyze affective content in television series. Therefore, this study focused on emotion distribution in Korean television series. In all, 337 episodes from 20 series were divided into shots, then keyframes were selected from the shots. Facial emotions on the keyframes were measured using an online artificial intelligence service. Emotion distributions were obtained from each episode and then were observed for common patterns. In addition, the statistical complexity of the distributions were calculated and compared by the temporal phase of the episode, channel type, genre, ratings, and season. The results show that the emotion distributions of all episodes in all series had the same form: an asymmetric U-shaped distribution biased toward zero. The statistical complexity of emotion distribution was greater in early episodes than in later episodes of a series, and it was higher in episodes with higher ratings. In addition, the complexity of emotion distribution was higher in hard genres and during the summer season. There was no significant difference between terrestrial television channels and cable/general programming channels.
The present study was carried out to determine the prevalence of
Theileria annulata
in large ruminants in Southern Punjab (Pakistan). Blood samples were collected from 144 large ruminants, consisting ...of 105 cattle and 39 buffaloes, from six districts of Southern Punjab including Multan, Layyah, Muzaffar Garh, Bhakar, Bahawalnagar, and Vehari. Data on the characteristics of the animals and herds were collected through questionnaires. The age of animals (
P
= 0.02), presence of ticks on animals (
P
= 0.02), and presence of ticks on dogs associated with herds (
P
= 0.05) were among the major risk factors involved in the spread of tropical theileriosis in the study area. Two different parasite detection techniques, PCR amplification and screening of Giemsa-stained slides, were compared, and it was found that PCR amplification is a more sensitive tool (19% parasite detection) as compared to smear scanning (3% parasite detection) for the detection of
T. annulata
. Twenty eight out of 144 animals produced the 721-bp fragment specific for
T. annulata
from five out of six sampling districts. Different blood (hemoglobin, glucose) and serum (ALT, AST, LDH, cholesterol) parameters of calves and cattle were measured and compared between parasite-positive and parasite-negative samples to assess the effect of
T. annulata
on the blood and serological profile of infected animals.
