This study aims to discuss incest marriage in terms of marriage law, the legal implications of incest marriage, as well as the problems of customary law and national law governing incest marriage. ...This study uses empirical juridical research methods with a factual and sociological approach. Incest marriage has violated the provisions contained in Article 8 of Law Number 1 of 1974, Article 30 of the Civil Code, and Article 39 of the Compilation of Islamic Law which prohibits marriage between brothers and sisters who are still related by blood. The legal implications of incest marriage as stipulated in Article 22, Article 24, Article 26, and Article 27 of Law Number 1 of 1974 can be declared null and void. Incest marriage as a tradition that developed in Bonyoh traditional village is not in accordance with national law, but on the other hand customary law in force in the region does not prohibit incest marriage. The indigenous Bonyoh villagers consider incest marriages as an effort to preserve local traditions that have been passed down by ancestors over time

Lela in Bali tells the story of an annual festival of eighteenth-century kingdoms in Northern Cameroon that was swept up in the migrations of marauding slave-raiders during the nineteenth century and ...carried south towards the coast. Lela was transformed first into a mounted durbar, like those of the Muslim states, before evolving in tandem with the German colonial project into a festival of arms. Reinterpreted by missionaries and post-colonial Cameroonians, Lela has become one of the most important of Cameroonian festivals and a crucial marker of identity within the state. Richard Fardon’s recuperation of two hundred years of history is an essential contribution not only to Cameroonian studies but also to the broader understanding of the evolution of African cultures.
Bali, a thousand temple island, is an ideal destination for spiritual tourism with magnificent temples containing a variety of unique religious carvings, statues, and ornaments. The beauty of Bali’s ...religious rituals, social and cultural events, and cultural performances underpin its spiritual tourism. An emerging body of literature has reported spiritual tourism and spiritual tourism is one of the pillars of sustainable tourism development (UNWTO, 2015). Religious tourism is a growing segment with significant economic impacts, however, limited research focuses on developing spiritual tourism and none of this in the North of Bali. This research takes a qualitative case study approach to investigate the potential of ancient religious sites in the North of Bali for religious tourism, and its use as a tool for sustainable development. Data were obtained through observations, documentation and in-depth interviews. This research involved twenty qualitative interviews with Bali tourism stakeholders, including community leaders, spiritual leaders and tourism officers. The research was guided by questions about the history of the temples; their ancient artefacts; the rules of the temple that tourists have to adhere to; how spiritual tourism could be developed in the North of Bali, and; how the local economy might benefit by the development of spiritual tourism. The findings show that the ancient religious sites in the North of Bali can be divided into three clusters based on the geography and the age of the temples: (1) the west cluster, which includes Pulaki Temple, Pemuteran Temple, Melanting Temple, Pabean Temple and KertaKawat Temple; (2) the center cluster which includes Pemulungan Agung Gobleg Temple and Labuan Aji Temple; and (3) the east cluster, which includes Puncak Sinunggal Temple and Ponjok Batu Temple. This study contributes to the emerging field of spiritual tourism by providing the historical aspect of each site, photos documentation, and an explanation of the history and spirit of the destination based on lontar (ancient manuscripts written on palm leaves). Finally, the paper provides recommendations on a strategy to develop spiritual tourism in the North of Bali and improve the livelihoods of local communities.
Satellite precipitation product estimates (SPPEs) provide rainfall data on regional and global scales and have the potential to be applied in various fields. Several satellite precipitation estimates ...are available for their various features in retrieval algorithms, used sensor instrument, spatial–temporal resolution, and coverage area. Global Satellite Mapping of Precipitation (GSMaP), Integrated MultisatellitE Retrievals (IMERG), and Climate Hazards Group Infrared Precipitation with Station (CHIRPS) are global coverage precipitation datasets with high spatial resolution (0.1°–0.05°) and high temporal resolution (from 30 min to daily updates). The objective of this study was to assess the performance of GSMaP, IMERG, and CHIRPS over Bali Island from 2015 to 2017 in terms of ground rain gauge data over a high density of rain gauge stations (27 in-situ rain gauges) and at various elevations, rainfall intensities, and temporal scales (i.e., daily, penta-days, monthly, and seasonal). A traditional point-to-pixel-based method along with a new introduced continuous, categorical, and volumetric statistical indices comparison approach were implemented to evaluate satellite products. The assessment results demonstrated that IMERG products achieved the highest performance on daily, penta-day, and seasonal time scales, whereas CHIRPS outperformed the other two products on the monthly time scale. Moreover, IMERG was more efficient in detecting rainfall events at different altitudes, but it tended to overestimate rainfall events at high altitudes. With respect to their abilities to detect rainfall events, GSMaP, IMERG, and CHIRPS tended to underestimate the frequency of light rainfall events (0–1 mm/day) and heavy rainfall events (>50 mm/day) but overestimate the frequency of moderate rainfall events (5–10 mm/day). Our result not only highlight IMERG products exhibited better performance in comparison to GSMaP and CHIRPS in Bali Island but also recommend that further improvement on the precipitation estimate algorithm is required by considering complex terrain over small island in the maritime continent area.
•Satellite precipitation product estimates (SPPEs) are assessed with dense rain gauges over Bali Island for the first time.•Categorical and volumetric indexes are proposed as the more objectively represents the SPPEs performance.•Performance of SPPEs are analyzed on various temporal scales, topography and rainfall intensity.
Background: Stunting is a nutritional status based on measurements of the Length-for-Age or Height-for-Age index of the anthropometric standards assessment of nutritional status of children. The ...report of the Public Health Center (PHC) of Tegallalang I revealed the largest number of stunting cases in Kedisan Village, with 28 toddlers suffering from stunting based on 2017 data. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the risk factors associated with stunting at Kedisan Village, Tegallalang Sub-district, Gianyar District. Methods: This is an analytic study employing a case-control approach. Sampling was carried out using a total sampling technique; that is, by utilizing all cases of children under five who were declared stunted in the village in question (a total of 28 cases). The case:control ratio used was 1:1; thus, the total sample used in the study was 56 samples from May 2017. Bivariate analysis was conducted using a chi-square test. Results: The majority of respondents were employed (i.e., 67.80% in the case group and 53.50% in the control group); in terms of the most recent level of education, 35.70% of respondents in the case group had a junior high school education, while 46.40% in the control group had a senior high school education. The results of the bivariate analysis found that the risk factor that was most significantly related with the incidence of stunting was complementary foods with breast milk (p = 0.03; OR: 4.63), while other risk factors were not related to the occurrence of stunting. Conclusions: The factor that influenced the occurrence of stunting in Kedisan Village was complementary foods with breast milk.
In 2002 Australia was rocked by the terrorist bombings in Bali that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians. Then, only 3 years later, another bombing in Bali claimed the lives of a further 20 ...people and injured 100 others. Who was behind the bombings and how could they be stopped? In Defeating Terror, former Australian Federal Police agent David Craig draws on his first-hand involvement to tell the true story of the hunt for the Bali bombers. Craig takes us behind the front-line fight, exposing the strengths, fears and vulnerabilities of both sides as they painstakingly piece together the backgrounds of the terrorists, their radicalisation and their bomb-making abilities and methods of evasion. Defeating Terror is a fast-paced and riveting account of the hunt for the masterminds behind the Bali bombings. In a real-life wild-west shoot out, when the terrorists are finally cornered, thousands of bullets are exchanged and 11 bombs are thrown at police. The terrorist mastermind is killed, but is his organisation dead? DAVID CRAIG was a senior officer in the Australian Federal Police. He has trained with international forces including the FBI and served in various countries including Indonesia, East Timor and Afghanistan.
Besung INK, Watiniasih NL, Mahardika GNK, Agustina KK, Suwiti NK. 2019. Mineral levels of Bali cattle (Bos javanicus) from four different types of land in different rearing areas in Bali, Nusa ...Penida, and Sumbawa Islands (Indonesia). Biodiversitas 20: 2931-2936. This study aims to prove that the mineral level of Bali cattle in serum is dependent on the origin and raising habitat. Serum samples were collected from three islands in Indonesia, i.e. Bali, Nusa Penida, and Sumbawa. Samples from Bali were further classified into four different areas (i.e. agroforestry, perennial plantation, horticultural plantation, and rice field). Blood samples were collected in the jugular vein without anticoagulant. The contents of macrominerals (Ca, Mg, Na, K, P) and microminerals (Fe, Cu, Zn, Co, Mn) were measured using the flame method in atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results showed that the level of phosphor (P) macromineral and all microminerals under study were influenced by the origin of cattle. The macrominerals are statistically varied in different cattle raising environments. The same is also valid for all microminerals, with an exception of Fe. All mineral levels under study were statistically equal in male and female Bali cattle. Phosphor macromineral and all microminerals levels were origin and environment-dependent. Supplementation of deficient minerals in a certain area and land type is recommended to improve the performance of Bali cattle.

This study describes the policies of the Provincial Government of Bali regarding the empowerment of Balinese language teachers. This departs from the district or city government's policy on ...empowering Balinese language teachers by appointing local government contract teachers who only reach the elementary and secondary education levels, as explored through previous research in Denpasar. Meanwhile, the SMA/SMK education level is under the authority of the Provincial Government (Bali), which will become the locus and focus of this research as follow-up research. Concerning this background, this research aims to describe (1) the implementation and (2) the policy implications of the Provincial Government of Bali in empowering Balinese language teachers. This research is designed as policy research using qualitative descriptive construction. In this case, the research data is conceived as an ideological substance and structure as an empirical actualization of Denpasar City Government policies obtained through documentation studies, interviews, and questionnaires. Research data analysis was carried out through reduction, classification, and interpretation. The results of this study indicate that (1) the implementation of the Bali Provincial Government's policy regarding the empowerment of Balinese language teachers in the form of delegation, arrangement, and mapping of Balinese language teachers Meanwhile, (2) the implications of the Bali Provincial Government policy regarding the empowerment of Balinese language teachers are in the form of balancing, strengthening, and developing Balinese language teachers.
