In the world of Nigerian beauty pageants, the bikini remains a fraught embodied symbol and aesthetic practice. Pageant affiliates, critics, and fans alike strongly debate the question of whether to ...include bikinis in these events. This article draws primarily from nearly a year of ethnographic observations of two Nigerian national beauty contests in 2009-2010 to show how various stakeholders used personal, domestic, and international frames about women’s bodies, and the bikini in particular, to bolster respectability. Through embodied respectability, women’s figurative and literal bodies were used to strategically situate propriety, social acceptance, and reputability for the self and the nation.
We present the ALICE results on the nuclear modification factor and elliptic flow of electrons and muons from open heavy-flavour hadron decays at mid-rapidity and forward rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions ...at sNN=2.76 and 5.02 TeV for different centrality intervals. The results are compared to model calculations that include interactions of heavy quarks with the medium.
The dominant theory of facial attractiveness judgments is that they evolved to identify healthy individuals with strong immune systems. Here, we summarize results of recent tests of this hypothesis, ...concluding that it has little compelling empirical support. We then propose an alternative perspective that emphasizes the effects of lifestyle health.

This study described the fetishism of the main character in Sam Mendes’ American Beauty by using psychoanalytical analysis. The analysis was focused on the fetishism conducted by the main character, ...Lester. The main data was taken from the work entitled American Beauty, while the supporting ones were derived from some related books, English journals, and other sources on the internet. Data were collected, categorized, and analyzed before they were presented in a discussion. The writer used descriptive-analytic techniques to analyze the collected data, and the analysis was focused on the factors that make Lester become a fetishist and the effects of his fetishism on his life and family. It was found that Lester’s id has the biggest role in causing his fetishism. Lester’s fetishism is controlled mostly by his needs to fulfill his physical and psychological needs. Lester wants to fulfill the sexual pleasure that he cannot get from his wife, Carolyn.
The paper explores the overlooked attention Johann Joachim Winckelmann gave to clothing and clothed statues. It engages with Winckelmann’s self-fashioning, the costume-based analysis through which he ...traced the cultural trajectory of antique peoples, and his descriptive and rhetorical passages on dress. It identifies the invisible and immaterial qualities which Winckelmann attributed to ‘tasteful’ clothing, and proposes that the elegance of Greek clothing was a signifier for the manifestation and transposition of perfect bodily form to the Greek ideal. This re-thinking seeks to address the focus on the Greek male nude figure as his emblem of ideal beauty and proposes that we should integrate draped statues as well as nude ones into Winckelmann’s historic and aesthetic framework.
