The Camino Pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela is an institution that has been operative for more than 1200 years. The European summer months see hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, whether they be ...persons of faith, agnostics or even atheists, walking the different routes to the city of Santiago de Compostela in the north-west of Spain. To be officially recognised as a pilgrim, by the cathedral authorities, a participant must walk at least 100 km or travel 200 km by bicycle or on horseback along the route. Most carry their luggage with them, making them backpackers. They are usually on a tight budget, have flexible itineraries and opt for inexpensive basic accommodation. This explorative case study looks at the reasons why South Africans undertake the Camino. The results show that they represent a much older group as opposed to the typical Camino pilgrim or international backpacker. Unlike many other documented Camino pilgrims, men do not undertake the journey for religious or spiritual reasons; rather they embark on the trip to fulfil their leisure, recreational and adventurous inclinations. Their female counterparts see it as a personal challenge and a cathartic experience after having lived through a traumatic event. Lastly, some may use it as an opportunity to immerse themselves in their ancestral European heritage.
Durante la época novohispana, los caminos fueron ampliamente transitados por arrieros, carreteros, buhoneros, comerciantes, oficiales, soldados, misioneros, entre muchos otros actores sociales que, ...además de trasladarse de un lugar a otro, tenían la necesidad de descansar durante sus largas travesías. En este sentido, los diferentes caminos, entre ellos el Camino Real Tierra Adentro, estaban acompañados de lugares de resguardo como posadas, mesones, ventas y haciendas. En este artículo se presenta nuestra colaboración al proyecto “Caracterización de Guadalupe A partir del análisis y reconstrucción de los procesos de asentamiento y desarrollo. Un estudio arqueohistórico sobre su cultura material.” Dirigido por la Dra. en C. Adriana Macías Madero. Específicamente nos ocupamos del Mesón de Godoy como ejemplo de uno de estos lugares de descanso adyacente al Camino Real que pasa por Guadalupe, Zacatecas. Además, este trabajo se ocupará de la caracterización de los mesones como un lugar para pernoctar con cualidades específicas, que le imprimían un sello distintivo a sus espacios.
Se ha llevado a cabo un estudio morfológico y biométrico de los restos fósiles de Suidos excavados en el yacimiento del Pleistoceno superior de la Cueva del Camino, en el término de Pinilla del Valle ...(Madrid), comparándolos con los restos de otros yacimientos y con especímenes actuales. El material extraído comprende 47 elementos pertenecientes a un mínimo de 6 individuos, destacando la presencia de restos craneales, muy poco frecuentes en los yacimientos europeos de esta época, y ausentes en yacimientos españoles. Se han comprobado en los restos los caracteres anatómicos típicos de Sus scrofa, confirmándose las condiciones paleoambientales obtenidas del conjunto de la fauna.
To describe the journey of patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and psoriasis (PsO) with special emphasis on diagnosis and treatment delays.
All patients with PsA registered between 2000 and 2016 ...were included. Mean lag time between first musculoskeletal symptom and diagnosis of PsA, between first musculoskeletal symptom and first physician encounter, mean lag time to first DMARD and mean lag time between PsO diagnosis and PsA diagnosis were calculated. Descriptive statistics are reported. Variables associated with a delay in PsA diagnosis >1 year were analyzed in multivariable analysis.
One hundred and eighty nine patients were included (139 PsA and 50 PsO), mean age 60.8 years (SD: 16.3), 57% were males. Mean lag time between first musculoskeletal symptom and diagnosis of PsA was 1.9 (SD: 4.7) years. In 90 patients (97%), the diagnosis of PsO preceded the diagnosis of PsA, a mean time of 14.3 years (SD: 13.9). Forty-nine patients (35%) had a delay of PsA diagnosis ≥1 year. Of the PsA patients, 84.7% received cDMARDs as first line therapy. The mean lag time between PsA diagnosis and initiation of DMARDs was 2 years (SD: 7.6). In logistic regression analysis no variable was independently associated with a delay equal or greater than 1 year in PsA diagnosis.
A significant delay in consultation and diagnosis of PsA was evident in this single center study in a third of patients. None of the variables studied was associated with a delay in diagnosis greater than one year.
Describir el recorrido de los pacientes con artritis psoriásica (PsA) y psoriasis (PsO), con especial énfasis en los retrasos en el diagnóstico y en el tratamiento.
Se incluyeron todos los pacientes con PsA registrados entre el año 2000 y el año 2016. Se calculó el tiempo medio entre el primer síntoma musculoesquelético y el diagnóstico de PsA, el tiempo medio al primer encuentro con el médico, el tiempo medio del primer DMARD y el tiempo medio entre el diagnóstico de PsO y el diagnóstico de PsA. Se reportan estadísticas descriptivas y análisis multivariable para un retraso diagnóstico superior a un año.
Se incluyeron 189 pacientes (139 PsA y 50 PsO), con una edad media de 60,8 años (DE: 16,3), el 57% del sexo masculino. El tiempo medio de retraso entre el primer síntoma musculoesquelético y el diagnóstico de PsA fue de 1,9 años (DE: 4,7). En 90 pacientes (97%), el diagnóstico de PsO precedió al diagnóstico de PsA, con un tiempo medio de 14,3 años (DE: 13,9). Cuarenta y nueve pacientes (35%) tuvieron un retraso en el diagnóstico de PsA superior a un año. El 84,7% de los pacientes con PsA recibieron FARMEc como terapia de primera línea, con un retraso medio de 2 años (DE: 7,6). En el análisis de multivariable ninguna variable se asoció de forma independiente con un retraso superior a un año en el diagnóstico de PsA.

This study aims to understand the relationships between authenticity and the constructs of theory of planned behaviour (TPB), namely, attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control and ...behavioural intention, of pilgrims who participated in the Camino de Santiago walk in Spain. A survey involving 400 respondents was conducted and structural equation modelling was employed in analysing the data. Results revealed positive relationships between authenticity and attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control. Attitude and subjective norms had a positive and significant relationship with behavioural intention, whereas perceived behavioural control showed an insignificant relationship with behavioural intention. Authenticity mediated by the TPB constructs positively influenced the behavioural intention of pilgrims. Findings of this study provide an improved understanding of how authenticity interacts with attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control, thereby influencing the behavioural intention to walk the St. James Way. Thus, this study contributes to an improved insight into the impact of authenticity on pilgrims' behavioural intention.
Due to the widespread practice of traditional and popular games in the municipalities on the Portuguese Way close to the border with Galicia, the principal objective of this study is to analyze game ...and traditional practices in the municipalities on the last section of the Central Portuguese Way (from Porto to Valença do Minho), to study their application within the school environment, and to identify other practices of physical and sports activities carried out by the population in this setting. We opted for a qualitative methodology, using personal semi-structured interviews as a tool for obtaining data. The study sample was composed of 27 people: 9 sports technicians from Municipal Chambers, 9 teachers from first-cycle elementary schools (non-specialists in Physical Education) and 9 teachers from second-cycle elementary schools (Physical Education specialists). A low practice of traditional games was evidenced in these municipalities, Malha games being the most popular group of recreational practices. Results also stressed out that the practice of popular and traditional games in schools is scarce and sporadic. Portuguese abundancy of games should be taken into higher consideration by authorities, focusing on their promotion and revival in schools, ideal locations for this type of playful-social projects.
Documentada la práctica profusa de juegos populares y tradicionales en los municipios por donde transcurre el Camino Portugués a su entrada en Galicia, este estudio tiene como objetivo principal analizar las prácticas lúdicas y tradicionales en los municipios por donde transcurre el último tramo del Camino Central Portugués (de Porto a Valença do Minho), su transferencia al ámbito escolar e identificar otras prácticas de actividad física y deportiva realizadas por la población en este contexto. Se optó por una metodología cualitativa, empleando la entrevista personal semiestructurada como instrumento para la obtención de datos. La muestra de estudio está compuesta por 27 personas: 9 técnicos deportivos de Cámaras Municipales, 9 docentes de Escuela Básica de primer ciclo (no especialistas en Educación Física) y 9 docentes de Escuela Básica de segundo ciclo (especialistas en Educación Física). Se registró una baja práctica de juegos tradicionales en estos municipios, donde el juego de Malha constituye la excepción más resaltable de este grupo de prácticas lúdicas, y donde se constató que la práctica de juegos populares y tradicionales en los centros educativos es escasa y esporádica. La riqueza lúdica portuguesa debería ser tenida en mejor consideración por las autoridades, focalizando el trabajo de promoción y recuperación en las escuelas, lugares idóneos para este tipo de proyectos lúdico-sociales.
The Way of St. James is a very well-known and ancient pilgrimage, with various routes leading pilgrims to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, where the remains of Saint James are ...buried. Over the last few years, the experience of the pilgrimage and the growing number of pilgrims walking the Saint James Way have been attracting researchers’ attention. However, studies attempting to understand the pilgrims’ experience using a self-regulation lens are limited. Self-regulation may be defined as efforts made to manage individuals’ thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in the pursuit of long-term goals. Therefore, rooted in the self-regulation framework, this research aims to further understand the Saint James Way with a focus on the pilgrims’ experience, while stressing the three components of the model: planning, execution, and evaluation. The interviews of 32 Portuguese pilgrims aged between 16 and 52 were analysed using thematic analysis through Zimmerman’s model. Pilgrims made important considerations on the three phases of the self-regulation framework. Importantly, participants’ discourses stressed relevant elements of the process of doing a pilgrimage, placing a particular emphasis on the interest and value of the pilgrimage, strategic planning, strategy usage, metacognitive monitoring, self-assessment and, finally, self-satisfaction. Interestingly, some participants revealed superficial planning and a lack of self-monitoring strategies on the journey. The study provides new avenues for research and practical implications likely to enhance the quality of the pilgrimage by helping pilgrims and pilgrim organisers.

El texto meta debe ser ostensivo y altamente relevante, de modo que el esfuerzo de procesamiento del receptor esté recompensado por la maximización del número de efectos cognitivos positivos. Gutt propone un modo de traducción indirecta, con la que el traductor pretende alcanzar una semejanza interpretativa incompleta respecto del texto origen.
