China is the most productive seaweed farming country in the world and her seaweed imports and exports have a significant impact on global seaweed trade commodities and food security. Nevertheless, ...few studies had delved into the main characteristics and development of China's seaweed farming industry. This paper aims to narrow this research gap by analyzing trade patterns in China's seaweed products and the international competitiveness of seaweed product by using the international market share index (IMS), the trade competitiveness index (TC), and revealed comparative advantage index (RCA) from 2002 to 2017. The results showed that Japan, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Chile, Peru, and the Republic of Korea are China's main trade partners, the total trade value of China's seaweed products has grown rapidly, its imports have gradually exceeded exports, the trade deficit continues to expand, and its competitiveness keeps decreasing. The reasons for this trend may include the changing seaweed trade commodity structure, product differentiation, increased government support in competing countries, and trade barriers among the trade partners. We propose actively expanding international trade markets, establishing a strong seaweed product processing industry to develop high value-added seaweed products, optimizing the trade commodity structure, and differentiating of seaweed products to improve the competitiveness of China's seaweed products.

Entrepreneurial alertness is a vital component in entrepreneurship that plays an important role in opportunity recognition. However, moving from the stage of alertness to eventually engage in ...business gestation activities has received limited attention over the years. In an attempt to address this gap, the present study examined the role played by action-oriented personality traits (i.e. trait competitiveness and proactive personality) in the transition from opportunity recognition to entrepreneurial action. The findings showed that entrepreneurial alertness significantly influenced entrepreneurial intentions, which subsequently resulted in entrepreneurial action. Also, the entrepreneurial alertness to entrepreneurial intentions (R2 = 32.6%) association was positively moderated by trait competitiveness while the entrepreneurial intention to behavior association (R2 = 32.2%) was positively moderated by proactive personality. Additionally, the total indirect effect of entrepreneurial alertness on entrepreneurial behavior was significant.
The objective of this paper is to determine the current state of scientific production regarding “competitiveness” in the international context through a bibliometric analysis. This study presents a ...review of 2293 documents published about competitiveness in the international context from the Scopus database (1983–2017). Two different processing software applications were used, Vosviewer and Scimat. Although very recent bibliometric analyses of the topic exist, the methodology applied in the search term is restricted due to the separate use of a single search combination “national competitiveness” or “international competitiveness”. For this work, three combinations of words with logical operators were used, TITLE-ABS-KEY (“international competitiveness”) OR (“national competitiveness”) OR (“export competitiveness”), thus managing to span the concept of competitiveness in the international context in a broader sense. Our results show that competitive research is in a period of high production. The most productive authors and journals are not the most cited on competitiveness. Only three countries stand out with the largest scientific production about this topic. The trend of the most recent research points to knowledge areas in environmental sciences. The most researched geographical areas in international competitiveness encompass the whole world and especially Southeast Asia.
The paper develops a model of destination competitiveness that will enable comparisons between countries and between tourism sector industries. The model seeks to capture the main elements of ...competitiveness
highlighted in the general literature, while appreciating the special issues involved in exploring the notion of destination competitiveness as emphasised by tourism researchers. Associated with the model
is a set of indicators that can be used to measure the competitiveness of any given destination. These indicators, comprising both objective and subjective measures, were identified from the major elements
comprising the generic destination competitiveness model and also from discussions at workshops held in Korea and Australia. This paper has four major objectives: to develop a model of destination competitiveness
that identifies key success factors in determining destination competitiveness; to develop an appropriate set of indicators of destination competitiveness; to highlight the advantages and limitations of
the model; and to identify areas for further conceptual and empirical research. The development of a model of destination competitiveness and an associated set of indicators allows identification of the
relative strengths and weaknesses of different tourism destinations, and can be used by industry and governments to increase tourism numbers and expenditure, and enhance socioeconomic prosperity.
The data-centric revolution generally celebrates the proliferation of business analytics and AI in exploiting firm's potential and success. However, there is a lack of research on how the unintended ...consequences of AI integrated business analytics (AI-BA) influence a firm's overall competitive advantage. In this backdrop, this study aims to identify how factors, such as AI-BA opacity, suboptimal business decisions and perceived risk are responsible for a firm's operational inefficiency and competitive disadvantage. Drawing on the resource-based view, dynamic capability view, and contingency theory, the proposed research model captures the components and effects of an AI-BA opacity on a firm's risk environment and negative performance. The data were gathered from 355 operational, mid-level and senior managers from various service sectors across all different size organisations in India. The results indicated that lack of governance, poor data quality, and inefficient training of key employees led to an AI-BA opacity. It then triggers suboptimal business decisions and higher perceived risk resulting in operational inefficiency. The findings show that operational inefficiency significantly contributes to negative sales growth and employees' dissatisfaction, which result in a competitive disadvantage for a firm. The findings also highlight the significant moderating effect of contingency plan in the nomological chain.
Tourism competitiveness is important for destinations to attract tourists and outshine competing destinations by providing high-quality, innovative tourism services and attractions while ensuring ...available resources are used efficiently but sustainably. The purpose of this research is to develop tourism competitiveness indices, considering both internal and external factors, including quantitative and qualitative methods that are suitable for emerging tourist destinations. A range of tourism stakeholders was sampled including tourism business owners and managers in various sectors, public administrators, and academics. They were asked to nominate competitiveness indicators. These indicators were then ranked and prioritized to provide a weighted score of competitiveness for the destination as well as tourism services. We apply this method of assessing tourism destination competitiveness to Kazakhstan. An assessment of the destination competitiveness of Kazakhstan shows that the natural environment is an area of competitive advantage followed by tourism policy while Kazakhstan is least competitive in the ability to ensure quality tourism services, on indicators such as pricing, language knowledge of tourism employees, and professionalism of tourism employees. The method allows academics, industry, and policymakers to easily interpret the indicators and factors that contribute to the quality and competitiveness of tourism services at the macro and micro levels.

A number of proposals have been formed, the practical implementation of which will ensure the formation and development of an effective competitive economy with further integration into the world economic space
Using an expanded view of entrepreneurial feasibility, we hypothesize a model in which entrepreneurial intentions are fostered by proactive personality and trait competitiveness. In doing so, our ...study expands the concept of entrepreneurial feasibility to include anticipatory thinking and a generative view of entrepreneurial self-efficacy by considering broader forms of self-efficacy that proactive and competitive people are likely to develop – creative self-efficacy and learning self-efficacy. Results indicate multiple self-efficacy beliefs account for anticipatory entrepreneurial cognitions and that the relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intentions is fully mediated by these cognitions. The practical implications of these findings are discussed.
•Entrepreneurial self-efficacy alone does not explain entrepreneurial intentions.•Anticipatory entrepreneurial cognitions precede entrepreneurial intentions.•Belief in one's ability to learn and adapt predicts anticipatory cognitions.•Learning and creative forms of self-efficacy shape entrepreneurial self-efficacy.•Proactive personality predicts learning self-efficacy and creative self-efficacy.
