Bottom-line mentality (BLM) describes a one-dimensional frame of mind revolving around bottom-line pursuits, which pervades most organizations today. But how does working with high BLM supervisors ...affect employees’ functioning both at work and at home? Guided by this question, we draw on social information processing theory and insights from the person–environment fit literature for a nuanced understanding of the effects of supervisor BLM. Using data from two field studies conducted in China (340 employees) and the United States (174 employees), we find that supervisor BLM increases employee perceptions of a competitive climate that ultimately increases employee thriving at work and insomnia outside work. We further find that employee trait competitiveness moderated the indirect relationship (via perceived competitive climate) between supervisor BLM and thriving at work but not for insomnia; employees high (versus low) in trait competitiveness were found to thrive at work under the competitive climate stimulated by high BLM supervisors. Taken together, our findings highlight the need for organizational leaders to be cautious of being too narrowly focused on bottom-line outcomes and aware of the wider implications of BLM on different domains of their employees’ lives.

Can an enterprise's green technological innovation ability enhance its competitiveness? This topic has not been studied extensively, there is no consensus in the existing literature, and there is no ...clear indication of the underlying mechanism and processes. In this research, we establish a conceptual framework to describe the effect of an enterprise's green technological innovation ability on enterprise competitiveness. This model uses product differentiation as the mediating variable and the enterprise scale as the moderating variable. This study is based on a hierarchical regression analysis of the energy conservation and environmental protection data from enterprises listed in China from 2011 to 2016. Our findings show that, in general, the green technological innovation ability of an enterprise has a significant positive effect on the enterprise's competitiveness, but different components have different effects on enterprise competitiveness. Product differentiation has a mediating effect on the relationship between an enterprise's green technological innovation ability and competitiveness, and its mediating effect differs depending on the components of the green technological innovation ability. The enterprise scale positively moderates the relationship between the enterprise's green technological innovation ability and enterprise competitiveness through product differentiation. This research provides a new analytical framework to understand the mechanism underlying the effect of an enterprise's green technological innovation ability on enterprise competitiveness, and it also provides useful insights into the development of green technological innovation competitiveness and the establishment of new policies by the government to improve the regulatory framework for green development.
•We describe the effect of an enterprise's green technological innovation ability on enterprise competitiveness.•We differentiate the different effects of different types of green technology innovation capabilities.•We analyze the regulating effect of enterprise scale when enterprise's green technological innovation ability influences enterprise competitiveness.•We show a new framework to learn how an enterprise's green technological innovation ability affects enterprise competitiveness.
This article starts from the empirical study of economic and social policies at the European level and has as its main purpose the determination of some solutions to simplify and implement them in ...favor of the data analysis was essential to see the progress in accessing these measures during the pandemic period to provide conclusions regarding the level of contribution of these aids and how they were or were not distributed depending on the situation in the territory. The present research did not discuss overall evaluation/impact, as the period of implementation and reporting of these types of aid was concurrent. We can consider that the measures for granting financial support from non-reimbursable external funds, related to the Competitiveness Operational Program 2014–2020, in the context of the crisis caused by COVID-19, although effective from the perspective of the expenses incurred, were not effective in covering the demand, especially in the regions considered more developed. Our findings are useful for policymakers such as managers and investors and can help them make the best decision for their managing or investing activities. Moreover, governments need to know how companies respond to the pandemic to identify the sectors of activity that are more vulnerable to the crisis’ effects and the main financial management decisions that must be adopted by companies during times of crises.
