Today, environmental water degradation all over the world comes about due to the growth of urban, industrial and agricultural activities. As a result of these discharges without any prior treatment, ...the quality of river waters in Kosovo has deteriorated greatly. On the basis of the research that has been done so far in the rivers of Kosovo, it was shown that Drenica is one of the rivers that are constantly exposed to the discharge of industrial waters. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to analyze the impact of water discharged from Feronikeli on the water quality of the Drenica River and the possibility of its protection. The realization of this study is focused on the evaluation of physico-chemical parameters of the water of the Drenica river, the content of heavy metals in the water, the analysis and comparison of the results obtained using the standard for the assessment of the ecological status of surface waters of Romania (GD 161). Laboratory assays were developed according to standard analysis methods (APHA). The results obtained, analyzed and compared with the values of the parameters according to the standard referred to in this research, confirm that the water of the Drenica River belongs to the class of water with "good quality" only in the source area, while in other flow stations river, especially in the third station S3 (Ferronikel industrial zone), water has "poor quality", passing into the category of "very poor quality". Therefore, in order to improve the current situation, it is recommended to apply the best environmental practices and proper management of industrial waste.
Advances in Remote Sensing (Digital Elevation Models) products and GIS techniques have made the calculation and analysis of morphometric indices much more accurate, effective, and less ...time-consuming. Dissection index (Di) is a morphometric parameter that indicates the degree of dissection or vertical erosion and the stage of landform development. Calculating morphometric parameters by manual methods is inconvenient because it takes a long time, is subject to mistakes that can be made by humans when extracting these parameters and, consequently leads to wrong conclusions. There is currently no fully automated method to calculate this parameter. The purpose of this paper is to define the procedures for extracting this parameter within a GIS environment using data from high resolution (HR) ALOS-PALSAR (Advanced Land Observing Satellite-Phased Array-Type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) Radiometrically Terrain Corrected (RTC) DEM with a spatial resolution of 12.5 m with the help of ArcGIS software. To calculate this parameter, a grid with 1x1 km cells with interpolation points in each cell was constructed. IDW was chosen as the most suitable method for the interpolation of points. Based on the obtained results, the extreme values of Di for the Drenica River basin ranged from 0 – 0.46. 90.54% of the surface belongs to the low and very low values of Di, 9.11% belongs to the average values while only 0.35% belongs to the high values of Di. The high participation of small values of this index for the Drenica River basin indicates that river erosion is very low and the total area is increasing towards the creation of flat surfaces. The relief dissection index can be used for various purposes, such as contributing to a better understanding of the spatial distribution of morphogenetic processes, relief segmentation, and landscape units that serve as the basis for geomorphological mapping work, study the balance between pedogenesis and morphogenesis, and the assessment of environmental vulnerability.
In this paper the uprising against National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia, which was raised by ballistic leader and the associate of fascist regime during the WWII Šaban Poluža in January 1945, was ...analysed. The author indicates the previous indulgence of the Yugoslav authorities and the attempt of bargain with Albanian associates of the occupier, which finally resulted in the armed munity against Yugoslav state. The article was written based on the archive material of the Military Archive in Belgrade, Archive of Serbia and Archive of Yugoslavia, and published historical sources and literature on this theme.
Sediment and water samples were taken at eight points along the Drenica River, Kosovo to determine the distribution of metals (Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cr) in sediments and the water column near ...potential sources of contamination. The sampling indicated that the largest impact on sediment quality has come from anthropogenic activities, mostly from urban flows, and pollutants from waste water discharges from a nickel refining site. Based on the values of the content of heavy metals in the water and sediment resulting in locations taken in the study, it can be said that a nickel refining site is the biggest polluter of Drenica River. Parameters in waters, such as electrical conductivity, and total dissolved solids in some sampling points reach relatively high values but do not exceed the maximum concentrations allowed under international standards, even on some places are rather close to them. The concentration of dissolved oxygen in vicinity of the factory is very low and approaches values causing fish kills. According to concentrations of some heavy metals, particularly of Ni, sediments on some stations show values characteristic for highly and extremely contaminated sediments. Further regular monitoring of water and sediment in Drenica River is highly encouraged and advised.
Purpose. To reflect the impact of discharge waters from the ferronickel smelter and surface lignite mining on the pollution of the Drenica River with heavy metals. According to our estimation, the ...effect of mining on the river pollution is undeniable. Methodology. The standard methods ISO 5667-6, ISO 5667-11, and ISO 5667-1.3 were used to determine the physical and chemical parameters of the Drenica River surface water. The EPA-3015A method was applied for sample preparation, while the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) measurement technique was used to determine the concentration of heavy metals. Standard ISO methods were applied for determining the following parameters: pH, DO, BOD5, COD, NNH4, NO3-, TN, PO4P, and TP. Findings. From the obtained results, it can be concluded that the levels of heavy metals in the river Drenica have exceeded the allowed values as a result of industrial activities. Originality. The paper supplies new additional information on the ecological status of the Drenica River, based on samples taken along the river, especially where the greatest impact of the ferronickel smelter and surface lignite mining could be. The problematic of this research is quite contemporary; river pollution affects the life chain. Practical value. We believe that the content and problems in the focus of the research are topical and present significant interest to all those who deal with environmental issues.
In the territory of Kosovo there are many serpentine mountain massifs. The largest complexes are found in the valley of the Ibër River, and the same are continued in a discontinuous chain through ...Koznica and Golesh to the southwest of the territory of Kosovo. Vegetation on the serpentine bedrock is rich in rare species and communities, which cannot be found in the Balkans and Europe. The communities appearing on the serpentine bedrock are characteristic and important for science. They are endemic due to the presence of endemic species in their species composition. Drenica Mountain (1051 m) is part of the Central Kosovo Mountains. These terrains are situated in the central part of Kosovo, between Çiçavica, Kosovo plain (Golesh), Llapusha, the Carraleva Mountains and the Anadrini region. A considerable part of these areas consists of serpentine bedrock, which is covered by interesting flora and vegetation. In the vegetation of Drenica Mountain 10 communities have been identified. Two of them are found on serpentine bedrock: ass. Hyperico-Euphorbietum glabriflorae and ass. Potentillo-Fumanetum bonapartei. These communities belong to the open space, and are also located in other parts of Kosovo, but only on serpentine bedrock. On Drenica Mountain there are two localities where these two communities appear. In this paper we focus in particular on ass. Hyperico-Euphorbietum glabriflorae
Na Kosovu so številni gorski masivi iz serpentinita. Največje površine so v dolini reke Ibër.
Political Albania continuously made efforts to help the Kachak resistance in Kosovo, which in 1918 took over through the Committee for the National Defence of Kosovo, this resistance Albania ...supported by arming, of the Albanian rebellious groups. However, this Committee, except in Kosovo, its activity extended to Albania, in the consolidation and democratization of the Albanian state. To realize the National Union Hasan Prishtina established contacts with some Italian deputies from whom he received support and secured weapons to organize an armed uprising and thus overthrow the Serbian invader in Kosovo.
