Summary
This systematic review sought to evaluate the impact of gender equality on the health of both women and men in high-income countries. A range of health outcomes arose across the 48 studies ...included. Gender equality was measured in various ways, including employment characteristics, political representation, access to services, and with standard indicators (such as the Global Gender Gap Index and the Gender Empowerment Measure). The effects of gender equality varied depending on the health outcome examined, and the context in which gender equality was examined (i.e. employment or domestic domain). Overall, evidence suggests that greater gender equality has a mostly positive effect on the health of males and females. We found utility in the convergence model, which postulates that gender equality will be associated with a convergence in the health outcomes of men and women, but unless there is encouragement and support for men to assume more non-traditional roles, further health gains will be stymied.
Intersectional approaches have become increasingly important for explaining educational inequalities because they help to improve our understanding of how individual experiences are shaped by ...simultaneous membership in multiple social categories that are associated with interconnected systems of power, privilege, and oppression. For years, there has been a call in psychological and educational research for quantitative approaches that can account for the intersection of multiple social categories. The present paper introduces the Multilevel Analysis of Individual Heterogeneity and Discriminatory Accuracy (MAIHDA) approach, a novel intersectional approach from epidemiology, to study educational inequalities. The MAIHDA approach uses a multilevel model as the statistical framework to define intersectional strata that represent individuals' membership in multiple social categories. By partitioning the variance within and between intersectional strata, the MAIHDA approach allows identifying intersectional effects at the strata level as well as obtaining information on the discriminatory accuracy of these strata for predicting individual educational outcomes. Compared to conventional quantitative intersectional approaches, MAIHDA analyses have several advantages, including better scalability for higher dimensions, model parsimony, and precision-weighted estimates of strata with small sample sizes. We provide a systematic review of its past application and illustrate its use by analyzing inequalities in reading achievement across 40 unique intersectional strata (combining the social categories of gender, immigrant background, parental education, and parental occupational status) using data from 15-year-old students in Germany (N = 5451). We conclude that the MAIHDA approach is a valuable intersectional tool to study inequalities in educational contexts.
Mots-cles : mathematiques, manuel, genre, representation Stereotypes about gender-based mathematical abilities have an impact on different aspects such as students' expectations or their ability to achieve mathematical learning. Analyses of mathematics textbooks from various countries around the world showed a more or less marked inequality of representations between female and male characters. The objective of this article was to investigate gender representations in mathematics textbooks used in Quebec with the French-speakers. A manual for the first grade of primary school was analyzed: The illustrated characters were identified and classified according to an analysis grid (gender, associated mathematics activity, space on the page, physical appearance, etc.). The results showed a real desire for gender equality in terms of mathematics aspects, but some gender differences persist (example: physical appearance). Brief Introduction: This research paper conducts a semiotic analysis to understand the portrayal of women in Hindi Cinema referring to movies like Mother India and Bandit Queen from an psychoanalytic ...Feminism perspective which discusses about Freud's unconscious mind and defense mechanism theories and how it is used to study oppression in women, by stating that men have an inherent (natural) psychological need to subjugate women. Louie Baudry's Apparatus Theory states that cinema is conceptual concept because it represented to create a reality on screen. In other words Apparatus Theory demonstrates the cinematic representation of how oppression in women operates in cinema. Design / Methodology: To conduct a semiotic content analysis for investigating how Freud's Psychoanalytic Theory results into a cinematic representation of prolonged gender inequalities and oppression in Hindi Cinema. The researcher would refer Psychoanalytic Feminism and Louie Baudry's Apparatus theory to explain the stated cinematic representation. The conceptual framework includes research methodology like semiotic content analysis for the selected movies. A critical analysis was also been conducted to understand the relationship between gender, psychoanalysis and cinematic representation from the review of literature. Findings & Implications: This study contributes the understanding of Psychoanalysis and theory of defense mechanism, feminist perspective on psychoanalytic theory, and Baudry's Apparatus Theory for cinematic representation. The major finding of this study was the understanding of psychoanalysis helping to understand the existence of an unconscious mental state portrayed by female characters. Apparatus Theory critically helped to understand the cinematic representation of oppression and discrimination adopted by the directors for portraying women in their respective films.
