Results of the stress-strain behavior estimation of gondola side stands by means of the DIC method (DIC - Digital Im-age Correlation) are described. Comparative tests of these gondola elements are ...performed by means of the tensome-try method as well as their modeling by means of the final element method. It is found that the DIC method allows determining deformations in welded seams as well as in other hard-to-reach places (abrupt junctions, small radii, pud-dle welds etc.). That is not executed nor at the projecting stage nor during static tests by means of tensometry method according to the existing typical methodology. There are recommendations for implementation of refined methodology of stressed state determination on gondola element nodes surface using DIC method into practice of testing centres (laboratories).

Purpose. To study the feasibility of using the fillers for the gondola car bearing structure components. This makes it possible to reduce both damage to the gondola car bearing structure components ...during operating modes of loading and the cost of unscheduled repairs. In addition, it can improve the efficiency of railway transport operation. Methodology. In order to substantiate the use of aluminium foam as a filler for the gondola car bearing structure components with a closed box-section, a computational modeling of loading under the most unfavorable operating mode, such as shunting collision, has been performed. Gondola car 12-757 model built at PJSC Kryukovsky Railway Car Building Works is chosen as a prototype. The calculation is performed using the finite element method implemented in the SolidWorks Simulation (CosmosWorks) software package. The fatigue strength and natural vibration frequencies of the gondola car bearing structure with a filler of its components have been calculated. The natural vibration frequencies of the bearing structure of the gondola car are calculated. The design service life of the gondola car bearing structure has been determined. The main indicators of the gondola car bearing structure dynamics have been studied. The calculation is made in a plane coordinate system. In this case, the mathematical model is solved by the Runge-Kutta method. Findings. The results of the conducted research have revealed that the use of aluminium foam as a filler for the gondola car bearing structure components contributes to reduction of their load-bearing capacity from 12 to 47% compared to the prototype wagon. Originality. The expediency of using aluminium foam as a filler of the gondola car bearing structure components by modeling its load-bearing capacity under the most unfavorable operating conditions has been scientifically substantiated. Practical value. By reducing the loading on the gondola car bearing structure, using aluminium foam as filler for its components, it is possible to increase fatigue strength, reduce the amount of damages, and, consequently, the cost of unscheduled repairs of the wagon. The conducted research can contribute to the creation of recommendations for developing the innovative rolling stock designs with improved technical-and-economic, as well as operational performance.
The topoekphrasis in D. du Maurier's short story «Don't Look Now» has been investigated. Under the term ‘Topoekphrasis’ we mean a description of the scene of action, which "is the hero of a literary ...work" (O. Kling) and has a special aesthetic significance. Such a place in the analyzed novel is Venice, which, thanks to its unique architectural appearance, has become a true work of art. The image is created by a description of the world-famous architectural monuments of Venice, as well as the use of toponyms reflecting the features of the urban landscape. Speaking about real-life art objects, the author does not strive for an accurate description of his visual image but fills it with additional meaning. The text of the novel demonstrates various types of ekphrastic descriptions. Their usage depends on the purpose, the amount of necessary visual information and the specifics of the art object described. The absence of detailed descriptions determines the use of zero and paratactic variants of topoekphrasis, the emphasis on the state of the characters, on the perception and interpretation of the visual image and the development of the action indicates its interpretive nature. The role of mortal motifs and labyrinth in the formation of topoekphrasis is noted. We have also knotted that the novel by D. du Maurier fits into the context of the world Venetian, expanding its semantic field.
This article presents an experimental approach to fatigue testing of cableway gondolas, carried out in accordance with the EN 13796-3 standard. Due to the limitations of the aforementioned ...regulations and the lack of clarity in their content, when designing and conducting fatigue tests of gondolas, there is a need to find solutions that meet the normative requirements, while ensuring the cost-effectiveness of the tests. The work presents the method of loading, receiving the degrees of freedom, the methodology of gondola strength verification and additional suggestions allowing for the satisfactory preparation of a plan of fatigue tests and their implementation. The paper shows problems and ways to solve it, what may occur during cableway gondolas fatigue test design. In addition, the work contains an extensive description and methodology for conducting research verifying the elastic and permanent deformation of the structure, using digital image correlation (DIC). The results obtained by using this method make it possible to unambiguously determine the degree of structure deformation while maintaining high accuracy and repeatability of measurements at many points of the structure. Following the presented tests, it was possible to correctly carry out fatigue tests of the nacelle in a satisfactory time (about 8 weeks), perform 5 million load cycles and verify the integrity of the structure. The presented results show the effectiveness of the adopted design assumptions and indicate the process that guarantees the correctness of the conducted fatigue tests. The prepared study may be the basis for further full-scale fatigue tests. The research object is a 6-seater gondola designed by TRANSSYSTEM S.A.
We investigate the role of the Africa‐Eurasia convergence in the recent tectonic evolution of the central Mediterranean. To this end we focused on two sectors of the Adriatic‐Hyblean foreland of the ...Apennine‐Maghrebian chain as they allow tectonic evidence for relative plate motions to be analyzed aside from the masking effect of other more local tectonic phenomena (e.g., subduction, chain building, etc.). We present a thorough review of data and interpretations on two major shear zones cutting these foreland sectors: the E‐W Molise‐Gondola in central Adriatic and the N‐S Vizzini‐Scicli in southern Sicily. The selected foreland areas exhibit remarkable similarities, including an unexpectedly high level of seismicity and the presence of the investigated shear zones since the Mesozoic. We analyze the tectonic framework, active tectonics, and seismicity of each of the foreland areas, highlighting the evolution of the tectonic understanding. In both areas, we find that current strains at midcrustal levels seem to respond to the same far‐field force oriented NNW‐SSE to NW‐SE, similar to the orientation of the Africa‐Eurasia convergence. We conclude that this convergence plays a primary role in the seismotectonics of the central Mediterranean and is partly accommodated by the reactivation of large Mesozoic shear zones.
