Oct. 11--Heath keeper Emily Kodman, it seems, has mastered the art of penalty kicks. Three times this season, the Lady Pirates have won soccer matches decided by penalty-kick shootouts, with Kodman ...stopping shots at an astonishing rate. In Tuesday night's First District semifinals, Kodman was 3-for-4 against Paducah Tilghman, locking up Heath's 2-1 victory and propelling the Lady Pirates to Thursday night's championship game. "I trust her," Heath coach Chris Lacey said of Kodman. "When we get to that point, I've got all the confidence. She's got a knack for knocking down shots. I'm not sure how she does it, because I don't even see them - - I can't stand to watch." Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the two teams battled through 30 minutes of scoreless overtime before deciding the match on penalty kicks. Raven Newberry, Rachel Harrison and Katie Graves converted their tries while Kodman was a virtual wall in the goal. Heath (13-3-2) is 3-0 in shootouts this fall, two of them in the Class A Soccer Cup tournament. Kodman stopped four of six shots against Lyon County in the qualifying game for the small-school state tournament, then made three saves as the Lady Pirates beat Owensboro Catholic in another sudden-death penalty- kick finish in the quarterfinals. In those three matches, each time with tournament advancement at stake, Kodman has blocked 10 of 16 penalty kicks. "I just watch the ball come off their foot, and try to reflex it," Kodman said. "I've been through so many of them, I feel like I'm used to them now." It was a tougher match than expected for Heath, which had beaten Tilghman (2-11-2) twice during the regular season by a combined score of 5-1.
To be a twenty-first-century subject is to engage in countless acts of self-representation. Although "Three Young Framers" included few actual depictions of people, presentation of the self provided ...the through line for Rachel Harrison's latest LA solo show. The title is a play on August Sander's 1914 photograph of three men on their way to a dance -- young farmers who, one hundred years hence, armed with smartphones and selfie sticks, would have no need for someone like Sander to take their picture.

The Avenue combines traditional manor house comforts with contemporary seasonal cooking. The quality of the food owes much to the imagination of award-winning chef Andy Mackenzie. From starters such ...as the Stockbridge wild mushroom espuma to mains such as south-coast cod with crab sausage or Hampshire rabbit with tortellini, every ingredient is either grown or sourced locally - many vegetables and herbs coming from the hotel's extensive walled kitchen garden.
