The main goals of the Linked Heritage Project (sponsored by Europeana) are to provide qualified content to Europeana from the public and private sector. To this aim is created WP4 (Work Group 4) in ...which the organization EDItEUR takes part. The content are metadata for the cultural heritage. Starting by addressing the issue of the copyright gap, which can involve metadata, the article notes the differences between metadata types developed by the private sector (ONIX for books) and those defined by the public one (FRBR, MARC, MARC21). The aim is to develop integration of both sectors into a shared references core. Exploring the common reference framework requirement, the article emphasizes the new International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) potential, which allows to uniquely identify the subjects involved in the creative field. The future outlook can be further enhanced by involving additional metadata mapping that relates books, people, places, data, other books and other references in a possible linked data form, within which priority should be given in common public identifiers, related semantic mapping layers and shared vocabularies.

When writer and historian Peter Wells found a cache of family letters amongst his elderly mother's effects, he realised that he had the means of retracing the history of a not-untypical family swept ...out to New Zealand during the great nineteenth-century human diaspora from Britain. His family experienced the war against Te Kooti, the Boer War, the Napier earthquake of 1931 and the Depression. They rose from servant status to the comforts of the middle class. There was army desertion, suicide, adultery, AIDS, secrets and lies. There was also success, prosperity and social status. In digging deep into their stories, examining letters from the past and writing a letter to the future, Peter Wells constructs a novel and striking way to view the history of Pakeha New Zealanders.

As Digital Media develops into a mature market, the proper referencing of digital content is increasingly critical. The Identification of Parties who contributes to content is key to ensure efficient ...discovery services and royalty tracking. Far from being simple numbers, Party Identifiers such as International Standard Name Identifiers (ISNI) are built on rigorous structures meeting the requirements of diverse media such as books, music or films. Designed to accurately identify Natural Persons and Legal Entities alike, Party Identifiers must also support language variances, cultural diversity and stringent data privacy regulations.
This study aims to find a method to adapt Korean bibliographic records to the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) structure. It also intends to verify that this conversion is ...possible without main entry or uniform headings because there is no rule for choice and form of the main headings in the current Korean Cataloging Rules. In this article we reviewed the role of identifiers and role indicators for FRBRizing. Also, we analyzed the characteristics of the Korean cataloging environment, focusing on the bibliographic records and authority records based on the current cataloging rules. As a result, we suggested the methodology for FRBRizing Korean bibliographic records by the combination of identifiers and role indicators. Although there is not much information about global identifiers or relator codes in bibliographic records based on the KORMARC at present, the FRBRizing method using identifiers and role indicators would be more effective for the global and networked information environment than the method using main entry or uniform headings.
In this session two veterans of the international information standards community discussed the National Information Standards Organization's (NISO's) soon to be released Institutional Identifiers, ...or "I
2
" standard. When adopted and implemented the I
2
standard will create a standard unique identifier for each institution, one that can be used by publishers, agents, and online hosts. Once adopted, use of the standard bodes well for improving processes in managing electronic resources, particularly access and activation issues, throughout the information supply chain.
