The proposed paper presents a concept and the deployment of an intelligent street lighting system using various open-source software and hardware components. This allows for smart control of the ...lighting fixture intensity based on traffic measurement data. The main idea is to monitor and control each light fixture from a central location and to implement different algorithms for energy efficiency improvement. The system has proven its stability over a one-month period and has achieved energy savings of 31.6%. It must be noted that this percentage is influenced by traffic patterns, so some fluctuation in energy savings is expected according to the varying load on the streets.
Relational databases have been the go-to data logging solution in the scientific community for years. But due to the rapidly changing nature of scientific instruments and the data generated by them, ...relational databases have begun to fall short of the requirement. In recent years NoSQL and time series databases have come up. These databases have a flexible data model, have horizontal scalability, and are distributed in nature, which helps them handle large volumes of data. This paper provides a comparative study of performance of Cassandra, MongoDB and InfluxDB databases that are used for logging fast data from the data acquisition system of Synchrotron Radiation Source Indus-2. The study uses both the open source synthetic benchmarks and Indus-2 machine parameter data to ascertain the relative performance of the three databases.
This article investigates the transformative potential of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in the agricultural domain, specifically focusing on an integrated IoT-based simulation platform. This ...platform empowers agricultural practitioners with expeditious access to critical data by amalgamating real-time data management, collected and transferred by Python scripts and visualization tools such as InfluxDB and Grafana. This includes the incorporation of visual gauges to enhance real-time decision-making processes. The central tenet of this approach revolves around the seamless acquisition, transmission, and analysis of real-time data, facilitating precise predictive modeling and informed decisions aimed at optimizing crop yields and fostering sustainable agricultural practices. This research lays the foundation for a new era of precision agriculture, wherein IoT technology and simulation coalesce to comprehensively address the diverse challenges inherent to contemporary farming.

This paper explores the use of InfluxDB for data analysis, storage, and visualization in measurement science. It focuses on the role of WiFi technology in real-time monitoring and data collection. ...Although the authors highlight a possible application of InfluxDB to particulate matter measurements, the database can be used for any need also in the field of electrical drives, machines or power electronics to store, analyze, and display measured data. The paper discusses the capabilities of InfluxDB capabilities in efficiently managing and analyzing time-based data and provides a guide for educators and students to effectively work with InfluxDB for data management.
This paper provides the criteria and sources of information that an insurance company should consider when evaluating time series databases for its needs. The company wanted to select either QuestDB ...or Graphite in order to replace InfluxDB. Selecting a new database is an important process. Like any other successful database management system, the database selected today begins to define the legacy of the company's future. There are many different parameters that can be used by the company to evaluate the time series database alternatives, and there is no single most correct process for conducting this evaluation. Not only are there many possible pertinent evaluation criteria, but there also is typically a degree of uncertainty about the requirements and characteristics of the target application environment. This paper focuses on evaluation criteria, with emphasis on horizontal scalability and performance.

Time series data is data that contain a series of timestamps and special values. Plenty of industrial areas generate time series and are used for the monitoring system. The amount of collected data ...and operational analysis required a new type of database: Time Series Databases, which are specialized for storing and querying time series data. In this paper, we propose a list of popular time series databases and a feature list of open-source databases. The search resulted in 4 databases. Therefore, five criteria are defined: speed of writing and reading, size of the database, support time-series table, and convenience of API.
In this paper an automated system for production data acquisition, storage and analysis is proposed. It covers the structure and a test of the entire data path consisting of machines, data broker, ...database and visualization software. Here, unlike other solutions, the actual data source in the production process is variable and not limited to a specific protocol or connector. To achieve this, a locally available gateway running the software Node-RED is used, to receive the data from the different machines and forward it to a central server using MQTT, for example. On this server, the data is stored in the time series database InfluxDB and is consequently available for analysis via Grafana. A particular focus lies on the independent software components, which can be easily exchanged and combined in other ways. Thus, choosing this software means that you won't be affected by the vendor lock-in that is common in the market. Security wise each software component can be hosted on premises, which is a deliberate move away from the cloud solutions that are common in many places. In addition to the structure of the described system, this paper also deals with the performance in terms of writing data to or retrieving data from the database compared to other solutions. Moreover the latency of different approaches in the system is considered.
One of the principal advantages of smart health systems is to provide a faster and more efficient diagnosis. In this context, data visualization is an effective way to represent data and help ...physicians to interpret a diagnostic test result. This paper focuses on how to better visualize health data under timevarying which is sorely needed in the analysis of sensitive data, such as electrocardiograph (ECG) signals. We propose an interactive data visualization method under data manipulation. The prototype was created using the InfluxDB database management system and the Grafana tool to store and visualize ECG signals, respectively. We also provide an empirical comparison of the proposed approach to the base methods of data visualization and draw useful conclusions upon their performance.
Late identification of water leaks can cause significant damage to buildings and infrastructure, leading to costly repairs and wasting resources. Traditional methods of detecting water leaks from ...pipes can be highly time-consuming and may not provide real-time information, which is key to identifying leaks early and taking appropriate action. This paper is about to address these issues by developing an ultrasonic water leak detection system with real-time transmission of measured values. The proposed system uses ultrasonic transducers strategically placed in the water supply network to detect water leaks by measuring changes in ultrasonic signals. The measured values are processed and transmitted in real-time using a microcontroller with a wireless communication module that allows remote monitoring of the system. In order to increase the accuracy and predictive capabilities of the water leak detection system, this paper also incorporates machine learning techniques. The predictive models are integrated into the system, allowing it to proactively anticipate and alert on potential leaks before they develop into larger problems.
Long-term stability is absolutely essential for the real deployment of quantum key distribution systems. The paper focuses on the possibility of long-term measurement of QKD system parameters using ...the COW protocol. For the measurement, an own developed system for monitoring the basic parameters of the Clavis 3 commercial system from the ID Quantic company was used. Since the stability of the quantum transmission systems can be influenced mainly by environmental influences, such as daylight shining on optical patch cables, the developed system will be used to monitor the stability of parameters in real conditions.
