U članku se obrađuju i prezentiraju ilustracije češkog slikara Karela Svobode (1824.– 1870.) nastale za nikad objavljeno djelo Ljudevita Gaja Dogodovština Ilirije Velike. Analiza Svobodinih drvoreza ...i crteža, sačuvanih u Zbirci rukopisa i starih knjiga Nacionalne i sveučilišne knjižnice u Zagrebu, uključuje ikonografsko određivanje i tumačenje prizora, njihovo postavljanje u kontekst kulturnopolitičkih zbivanja 1840-ih godina te početaka historijskog slikarstva u Hrvatskoj i na širem području Habsburške Monarhije.
This study focuses on the postfaces that accompany Karel Čapek’s Writings (published 1980–1995), with an eye to the way they relate to the primary texts. The first part explores the nature of these ...essays, as well as the topics they address, in relation to Gérard Genette’s theory of paratexts. The author then goes on to examine certain presuppositions in the essays about the experience of reading Čapek’s writings, and how or whether authors of the essays are aware of their role in mediating this experience. In a third and final part of the study, the author examines the demands placed on literature during the period 1948–1989, and how they are reflected in the postfaces.
The article is a response to Heather Walton’s IAPT presidential address titled “A Theopoetics of Practice – Re-forming in Practical Theology.” Practices examined in this article are rituals and ...caring related to death and dying in literature. By making use of Ronald Grimes’ so-called fictive ritual the portrayal of rituals and caring in novels by the Afrikaans novelist Karel Schoeman are examined. As a response to Walton’s address, a theopoetics is developed from the
in the work of Schoeman.
In the study, the author focuses on the various assassinations that are connected with the Czechoslovak history. The term „assassination“ has no legal definition, so in the beginning of the study we ...will first think about its content. Based on the definition, we will identify the assassinations in every period of Czechoslovak history. The body of the study is divided into four parts, derived from effect of the Criminal codes and from the constitutional development in the state. The primary aim of the study is the analysis of assassinations, especially from a legal point of view, i.e., from the point of view of legal responsibility or the impact of assassinations as material source on the origin of law. The secondary aim of the work is to approach several interpretations that relate to assassinations and the impact of the analyzed events on historical memory.
Karel Schoeman, the award-winning Afrikaans author, not only wrote several seminal novels (for which he received the highest Afrikaans literature prizes), but his contribution to research focusing on ...the 18th and early 19th century South African sociocultural history is also remarkable. He collected and put together an enormous volume of archival resources accessible to a large audience of interested readers and scholars alike. He especially concentrated on the history of missionaries and mission organisations; he wrote a long list of biographies, of which the most important ones were of women with some connection to the missionary endeavour. Schoeman's unique approach to historiography is making a significant contribution that is relevant to missionary history and theology as such. He retrieved often neglected but important voices from the past. Contrary to canonised, confessional and denominational church history, he opted to focus on missionaries (Black and White), slaves, women, and the historically marginalised. He wrote about their “lived faith” within the sociocultural contexts of their time. He did substantial work on Pietism as a religious movement impacting on the Afrikaner piety of the era, stimulating missionary endeavours. This article argues that Schoeman’s historiographic legacy (his oeuvre and distinct approach) makes an invaluable contribution to South African theology and missionary history
Abstract In addition to being a widely recognized novelist, Milan Kundera has also authored three pieces for theatre: The Owners of the Keys (Majitelé klíčů 1961), The Blunder (Ptákovina 1967), and ...Jacques and his Master (Jakub a jeho pán 1971). In recent years, however, the hypothesis has been raised that Kundera was the true author of a fourth play, Juro Jánošík, first performed in a 1974 production under the name of Karel Steigerwald, who was Kundera’s student at the time. In this study, we make use of supervised machine learning to settle the question of authorship attribution in the case of Juro Jánošík, with results strongly supporting the hypothesis of Kundera’s authorship.

The Slovenian philologist and folk song researcher Karel Strekelj (1859-1812) was one of the first researchers in Slovenia to recognise the importance and usefulness of a new sound recording method. ...Based on a detailed study of archival documents and relevant literature, in this article I examine Strekelj?s contribution to folk music research using a new technical device and introducing a new method of sound documentation to field research. By placing his plans and efforts in a broader context of folk song research, one concludes that Strekelj was more ambitious and forward-thinking than many other researchers at the time.
