The series Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature Studies (DCLS)is concerned principally with research into those books of the Greek Bible (Septuagint) which are not contained in the Hebrew canon, ...and into intertestamentary and early Jewish literature from the period around the 3rd century BCE to the 2nd century CE. The series was launched in 2007 in collaboration with the "International Society for the Study of Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature". It provides a logical extension to the Deuterocanonical and Cognate Literature Yearbook, which has been published since 2004.

The Duchies of the Latin Empire of Constantinople after 1204. Origin, Structures and Statutes.
This article examines the origin, structures and status of the ‘ duchies’ which were created directly or indirectly as a consequence or a by-product of the 4th Crusade and the creation of the Latin Empire of Constantinople. After having discussed the terminology, it first examines the ducata resulting from the Partitio Romaniae or grants by the first Latin Emperors (Nicaea, Philadelphia, Nicomedia, Neocastron, Philippopolis, Lemnos and the Archipelago), as well as the case of the dux of Thessaloniki. It then discusses the duchies, which were created in other circumstances, but still related – in some way to the capture of Constantinople, namely Athens (with Neo Patra), Leucas (with the so-called ‘ duchy of Cephalonia’), and finally the Venetian ones with reference to Crete, Dyrrachion and Negroponte. With the time progressing, it appears that the Western feudal influence outdid any original Byzantine one.

Focusing on the Latin Empire of Constantinople, this study undertakes a first-ever synchronous and diachronic comparative analysis of the interactions between models of imperial rule and large-scale ...governance alliances in the Eastern Mediterranean region during the 13th century. The analysis reveals the consequences of the tension-filled interactions between the Latin and Byzantine world in the Mediterranean area.

It examines the effects of these ...changes in location on their meaning by presenting the available written and archeological evidence on art in public spaces.
This new edition of Byzantium and the Crusades provides a fully-revised and updated version of Jonathan Harris's landmark text in the field of Byzantine and crusader history. The book offers a ...chronological exploration of Byzantium and the outlook of its rulers during the time of the Crusades. It argues that one of the main keys to Byzantine interaction with Western Europe, the Crusades and the crusader states can be found in the nature of the Byzantine Empire and the ideology which underpinned it, rather than in any generalised hostility between the peoples. Taking recent scholarship into account, this new edition includes an updated notes section and bibliography, as well as significant additions to the text: - New material on the role of religious differences after 1100 - A detailed discussion of economic, social and religious changes that took place in 12th-century Byzantine relations with the west - In-depth coverage of Byzantium and the Crusades during the 13th century - New maps, illustrations, genealogical tables and a timeline of key dates Byzantium and the Crusades is an important contribution to the historiography by a major scholar in the field that should be read by anyone interested in Byzantine and crusader history.
Twenty-nine in all, these letters cover all but three of Cyril's years as a bishop. The first twelve were published in 2009 (Fathers of the Church 118). The present volume completes the set. Festal ...letters were used in Alexandria primarily to announce the beginning of Lent and the date of Easter. They also served a catechetical purpose, however, allowing the Patriarch an annual opportunity to write pastorally not just about issues facing the entire see, but also about the theological issues of the day. Thus, in these letters we catch a glimpse of Cyril the pastor writing about complex theology in an uncomplicated way. These letters also illuminate other realities of the ancient church in Alexandria, especially the relationship with the Jewish community and the rising influence of asceticism.
