Fear is a ubiquitous but somewhat underexamined phenomenon in education. In this essay, the author draws on the holistic educational philosophy of Jiddu Krishnamurti in order to reflect on the role ...of fear in his experiences as a classroom teacher. The author recounts experiences of difficult classroom management in which his fear was piqued. The author then draws on Krishnamurti's writing to suggest that there is a deep seeded fear of not being a good teacher at the root of the desire to control students' behaviour. The author concludes the paper by pointing to the need for serious and ongoing self-inquiry within education and society more broadly-a central tenant of Krishnamurti's educational thought.
In this paper, several considerations about education are proposed after the ideas raised in Jiddu Krishnamurti's El arte de vivir (Life Ahead: On Learning and the Search of Meaning in the original ...English edition) by Jiddu Krishnamurti. In order to do so, a conceptual synthesis of his ideas concerning social issues dealt with by education today will be set on the one hand. On the other, a reflection will be carried out so as to determine whether his ideas fit into a general historical framework of educational thought.
Highlights the life of Jiddu Krishnamurti from his humble beginnings as a weak boy from a humble family in India, to head of the Order of the Star in the East, a position which was thrust upon him as ...a youth, to a later distancing of himself from that esoteric order and alienation of many friends and colleagues, to independence and the founding of schools, lecturing around the world, and authorship of numerous books. Mainly about Krishnamurti's views on war, and the solutions that he presents to the world as a whole. Krishnamurti stated that war is caused, at heart, by individuals who use war as an outward expression of their own inward chaos and indecision. Even creation of anti-war organizations will only lead to further separation and power-bases that usurp the initial desire of peace. It is the changed individual who is at peace with herself that will truly affect the planet, as the world will recognize this, with each new person who finds inner-peace. Further, this knowledge must be lived and learned directly by the individual, not through vicarious means; the telling of peace will only inspire, it will not bring actual, lasting peace. A year before his death in the mid-80's, Krishnamurti spoke at the United Nations and was awarded its peace medal. His words and inspiration have bolstered many and has helped to propel the spirits of the Dalai Lama and Joseph Campbell, amongst others. S. Fullmer

English author Roland Vernon first came across the work of Indian prophet Jiddu Krishnamurti in the spiritually restless 1970s, but found his antireligion writings too confusing and nihilistic. ...Vernon put them aside. Years later, still disillusioned with traditional religion, Vernon-who grew up in the Church of England-was drawn to Annie Besant, a socialist who rejected her own Christian background in favor of political activism.
