Over a decade ago, Bernd Seidensticker (FU Berlin) established the Archiv fur Antikerezeption focusing on the period after 1945, which is searchable on the web ...("http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/antikewa/") and is now part of the DFG project Antikerezeption in der deutschsprachigen Literatur der Gegenwart. The geographic distribution of the authors illustrates how important the classical tradition was for East German authors relative to their counterparts in the West. Weinberg's analysis of Hubert Fichte not only shows the influence of Herodotus but also Fichte's interest in African roots of Greek culture.

Texts include Frank Wedekind's Buchse der Pandora, Franz Kafka's In the Penal Colony, the films of Monika Treut, Bodo Kirchhoff's plays, Peter Weiss' Verfolgung und Ermordung Jean Paul Marats, Heiner ...Muller's Herzstuck, the Marquis de Sade's Justine and Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's Venus im Pelz, as well as a variety of nonliterary material on beauty pageants, cosmetic surgery, torture, to such gems as Arnold Schwarzenegger's bodybuilding manual.
