This brief editorial suggests that educational research has allowed itself to be constructed in a very narrow way, that seeks, sometimes despite itself, even when the research is of excellent ...quality, to support the underlying neoliberal values and practices that support its current educational regime. Rather than lamenting this state of affairs, or indicating possible alternatives that are nevertheless not being, and may very unlikely ever to be, followed (the dubious preoccupation of much philosophy of education); perhaps a more honest, brutal and politically relevant response would be a critical analysis of why and how this educational apparatus has evolved and what its effects are felt to be.
This paper explores how Joseph Beuys interpreted philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche's concepts of the 'Great Reason of the Body' and the 'Guideline of the Body', and reveals how these ideas are of ...central importance to Beuys's sculptural and performative work. It shows how Beuys transcended the mind-body dualism and believed in the embodiment of the mind; how he conceived of the human subject as being generated by performance and interaction; and how he took as central the ideas of responsible self-determination and self-overcoming in order to develop a new kind of human conscious state.
I argue that the second essay of Nietzsche’s Genealogy of Morality (GM II) provides an account of morally responsible agency, rooted in our susceptibility to the feeling of guilt. Specifically, I ...argue that GM II’s naturalistic and developmental account of the origins of conscience, bad conscience, and guilt explains why human beings are, in general, appropriate targets of the moral reactive attitudes. I motivate this reading by appealing to P.F. Strawson’s naturalistic analysis of responsibility in “Freedom and Resentment,” showing that GM II likewise analyzes responsibility in terms of the practice of holding others and oneself responsible. This practice is constituted by what Nietzsche calls the “reactive affects,” and I argue that these attitudes not only legitimize blame, but also trust (“permitted promising”), in connection to Nietzsche’s positive ideal of responsibility, the “sovereign individual.”

This article hopes to honor Richard Weisberg in the form of a דבר תרה ("word of Torah"), which, although typically a sermon upon the weekly reading of the Pentateuch, can also more broadly refer to - ...as here - a discourse about anything meaningfully Jewish. Beginning, and ending, with the question of whether deconstructionism is not Talmudic, it proceeds by, respecting the former, studiously avoiding (almost) anything but apophatic "answers," except that, respecting the latter, it endeavors to blazon, by way of Richard's thoroughly Nietzschean geist concerning good versus bad readers of texts, his even more inveterately, imperative Jewish ethos.
This paper tries to explain how Nietszche 's critical reading of Aristotle's Poetics in The birth of tragedy, has a number of contentious issues in which Nietzsche's position is not altogether clear ...and although there are some differences betzveen them, it is possible to identify some commonalities. The confrontation betzveen the philosophers occurs around the concepts of myth and music. In these we can see how the distance that the German philosopher tries to create serves, primarily to promote a clarification of his own tragic insight.
This article reconsiders the power of myth in light of the rise of neo-fascist or new fascist leaders casting a shadow on the contemporary political scene. Taking its starting point from Philippe ...Lacoue-Labarthe’s and Jean-Luc Nancy’s seminal essay, “The Nazi Myth,” the article offers a genealogy of the affective and infective power of myth rooted in the ancient problematic of mimesis. It argues that stepping back to texts central to the rise of the Nazi movement like Alfred Rosenberg’s The Myth of the 20th Century can help us diagnose what Nietzsche calls the representational (or Apollonian) and affective (or Dionysian) power of mythic mimesis, a mimetic power currently reloaded by apprentice presidents with (new) fascist aspirations in need of unmasking operations
Pecora examines Friedrich Nietzsche's account, which is foundational, of the fall from guiltless "good and bad" into guilt-ridden "good and evil" and Sigmund Freud's account of the fall from ...tyrannous and violent, if guilt-free, patriarchy into fraternal, but guilty and uneasy, Kultur. He also looks at Walter Benjamin's account of the fall from magical, archaic mimesis into the Babel of structurally arbitrary yet instrumental language, through which the redemptive power of mimesis may nevertheless appear, and Martin Heidegger's account of the fall from a time when the question of Being was still available into the era of Greek metaphysics and subsequently "the age of the world picture," that is, the age of instrumental thinking and the forgetting of the question of Being. In addition, he tackles Jacques Derrida's account of the fall from a middle-voiced grammar, where the difference between the active and passive voice, and between moral agency and its absence, was undecidable, into a Western grammar of willing subjects and determined objects, of logocentric intentionality and individual moral responsibility.
The Zhanguoce School emerged in 1940 and actively responded to the crisis caused by the Sino-Japanese War. The cultural morphology of Oswald Spengler (1880–1936) inspired most of the leading ...Zhanguoce scholars to reflect on the culture, history, and status quo of China. They believed that China was suffering from a total war with world superpowers and that it was in a new Warring States epoch; they thus advocated radical cultural reform as a necessary condition for victory and invoked Nietzschean philosophy to champion heroism and power. However, He Lin 賀麟 (1902–92), a philosopher in this school, looked to Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831) and Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762–1814) for different theories of cultural reform and history. This article examines He’s integration of the philosophies of Hegel and Fichte into his cultural and historical thought. Based on the Hegelian notion of Spirit, He rethought the nature of culture and the relationship between Chinese and Western cultures; he also interpreted history by comparing the historical theories of Hegel and Wang Fuzhi 王夫之 (1619–92). Furthermore, He investigated individual realization with reference to Fichte and repudiated radical heroism.
