Rad analizira povezanost sustava lokalne samouprave s provedbom Holokausta.

2023, Croatia joined the Schengen area, which means that border controls on persons will no longer be carried out at the common Croatian-Hungarian border. This will facilitate traffic ...between the counties of Baranya and Osijek-Baranya, which will be further enhanced by the opening of the 20 km final section of the M6 motorway, scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. In this situation, new opportunities will open up for exploiting the mutual benefits of cooperation between these counties, such as the cross-border cooperation between the regional airports near Pécs and Osijek. The study will explore the specificity of both facilities and important conclusions could provide useful lessons to other regional airports facing similar issues.

This paper presents the activities of the Anti-Tuberculosis League in the Osijek County (oblast) as the foundation of Štampar’s concept of public health education, focusing on two Meetings of the ...Osijek County Physicians (the 2nd and 3rd) in 1927 and 1928. The introductory section provides an overview of the anti-tuberculosis movement in Europe and the development of the dispensary system and public health reforms in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes during the 1920s. The establishment of the Anti-Tuberculosis League in Osijek in 1926 was a result of the actual health condition of the population and a broad campaign to combat tuberculosis and reform public health, following the healthcare principles of Andrija Štampar. According to the established rules, the League’s work was based on the anti-tuberculosis movement, with the primary task of placing the entire population in the Osijek County under the same organised expert supervision. In line with this, the paper describes the activities of the Anti-Tuberculosis League and the two Meetings of Osijek County Physicians, with an emphasis on the humane attitude of physicians towards patients and their dedicated approach to treating tuberculosis as a severe social disease. Numerical data on the prevalence of the disease as a threat to the population shows that medical care was envisioned as a comprehensive action aimed at achieving socio-medical objectives. The role of Dr Prokopije Uzelac, the League’s secretary, is particularly emphasised in this context, with a detailed account of his presentation at the 2nd Meeting of Osijek County Physicians and the 14-point resolution on the League’s work that he proposed, highlighting the comprehensive approach and understanding of the severity of tuberculosis protection issues. The paper also provides a brief description of the 3rd Meeting of Osijek County Physicians, excerpts from the participants’ speeches, and quotes from Andrija Štampar’s speech at the meeting. By describing the physicians’ meetings and quoting from their speeches, as well as the proposed resolution, the paper aims to show the pivotal shift in the approach to health education and the transition from individual physician engagement to a socially engaged and organised approach to treating tuberculosis as a social disease. The paper also analyses available materials to provide insight into the social atmosphere and the willingness of Osijek physicians to actively support the League as an important socially organised effort in disease prevention and management.

Austrijski car i hrvatsko-ugarski kralj Franjo Josip I. (1830./1848. Na početku vladavine Franje Josipa I. u njemu djeluju dvije bolnice: vojna u baroknoj vojnoj utvrdi Tvrđi i civilna u Novome gradu.
The Austrian emperor and the Croat-Hungarian king Franz Joseph I (1830/1848-1916) was the longest-serving ruler of the Habsburg dynasty. Among his properties was Osijek, which since 1809 enjoyed the status of a free royal city. In the period under review, it was the seat of the Virovitica County and the capital of the Kingdom of Slavonia until its incorporation into the Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia after the Croat-Hungarian settlement of 1868. Because of this, Osijek was not only a political, economic and cultural centre but also a health care centre. At the beginning of the reign of Franz Joseph I, two hospitals were operating in it: a military one in the baroque military garrison Tvrđa and a civilian one in New Town. The most significant role in the further development of the Osijek and Slavonian health care was played by the trust established in 1806 from the legacies of innkeeper Johann Kolhoffer, tanner Josef Huttler and Jesuit Cristian Monsperger. Although originally intended for the establishment of an orphanage, due to a number of unfavourable political circumstances, the trust, until then with multiple interests attributed to the principal, came under the administration of the city of Osijek only in 1867. Along with the new orphanage opened in 1874, a new hospital was completed as well in 1868, also with the money from the trust. Huttler-Kohlhoffer-Monsperger Foundation Hospital was the largest and most modern hospital in the Triune Kingdom, and despite later constructions of various hospital wards, its building has remained the most representative building within the Clinical Hospital Centre Osijek.
The city of Osijek has experienced many changes in its cityscape throughout history. Osijek has many recognizable features which include an Austro-Hungarian Baroque fortress, the Classicist Upper ...Town, and the Art Nouveau European Avenue; also, the fact that three more historical layers exist: Roman, medieval and Turkish, is often overlooked. The main reason for this is the fact that the archaeological heritage of those periods is almost invisible. This paper is based on the hypothesis that the integration of ancient heritage can be a valuable asset when designing a modern city. The subject of this paper is the integration of the ancient heritage of Osijek into the modern architecture of the city in the 21st century, with special reference to a site within its protected cultural and historical area, which is part of Roman Mursa. The critical literature analysis illustrates the importance of cultural heritage preservation in the identity of a place, society and humanity. Cultural heritage is recognized as a bearer of identity and a resource of cultural diversity in the conditions of growing standardization, gentrification and (post) globalization.
Drawing on literature, newspapers, and archival sources, this paper examines the life and work of Oskar Weiszmayer, one of the most recognizable members of the Jewish community in Croatia in the ...second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. Elucidating his overall economic, cultural, social, and political activities in Osijek and Zagreb is an important contribution to a better understanding of the history of the Jews in Croatia.
Osijek is the largest city in eastern Croatia and the fourth largest city in the country. The most preserved Baroque buildings of Croatia are located in Tvrdja, the old historical city core. Tvrdja ...represents the educational, cultural and administrative centre of Osijek, and consists of 106 buildings. One of the problems facing civil engineers today is preserving a large number of older masonry buildings, built in areas of seismic active zones. It is very important to evaluate the existing earthquake resistance of these buildings in order to strengthen existing buildings and/or prepare emergency plans using realistic seismic scenarios. Therefore, it is desirable to provide a relatively fast but accurate seismic vulnerability assessment, which the proposed method in this paper satisfies. The aim of the article is to determine, using Damage Index coefficient, the seismic vulnerability of a historical building located in Tvrdja. For the analysed area, a set of seven earthquake records is specified, and using different structures modelled as single-degree-of-freedom systems, Damage index spectral functions are determined. Thus, by knowing the proposed parameters of a single-degree-of-freedom system representing an unreinforced masonry building, a response of the structure to a given earthquake can be determined using the graph of Damage index spectral functions.

Doping and the use of performance-enhancing drugs in athletes have become hot topics in recent years. There seem to be many factors that will influence whether one will opt to use a banned substance, ...and an athlete’s attitudes toward doping is one of them. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of doping usage in the athlete population of the city of Osijek and to evaluate the interconnection between athletes’ attitudes toward doping and doping usage. A cross-sectional study with a specially designed questionnaire was done during the period from August to October 2019 among a convenient sample of athletes from the city of Osijek. The study showed that there were 3.7% of participants who said that they had been using doping in the past but only for the purpose of treatment. The study also showed that there is a positive interconnection between attitudes toward doping and doping usage. Furthermore, the study had revealed that competitiveness affects the doping attitude. It can be concluded that it is necessary to put more emphasis on changing attitudes toward doping and implementing additional educational programs in order to decrease doping usage in the athletes’ population.
