The multi-faceted notion of politeia as a lens on Aristotle’s ideas about politics and history is the organizing focus of this monograph in Araucaria which unites essays by philosophers, historians ...and political theorists. What issues are focused on? The historical qualities of the research on the politeiai in relation to the Aristotelian judgement on history (Mara, Poddighe); the use of the politeiai as paradeigmata for the correction of the existing regimes and for the creation of new ones by lawgivers and politicians, be they real models (Pezzoli, Zizza) or theoretical elaborations (Sancho Rocher); the method of Aristotelian research on the politeiai (Polito); Aristotle’s ethical reflection on the principles that give unity and stability to the politeia, in particular the democratic ones (Irrera) and, finally, Aristotle’s analysis on a pragmatic way to settle the problem of stasis with political means (Knoll).
Son numerosos los trabajos interesantes sobre la democracia y sus crisis que se han producido en los años recientes. Forman parte de una discusión que en los términos de Sartori está abierta, y ...quizás es porque el concepto democraciasufre de manera más común el estiramiento conceptual. Este escrito busca presentar un análisis de la democracia deliberativa y los atajos de la democracia, teniendo en cuenta los planteamientos de la profesora Lafont, enmarcando esta discusión en el contexto de la cuarta revolución industrial, con el fin de analizar cuáles son los atajos que la tecnología le propone a la democracia contemporánea, y finalmente exponer una reflexión a manera de lección aprendida.
Uno de los elementos del libro 2 de la Política de Aristóteles que más ha llamado la atención de los estudiosos de la obra ha sido el análisis de la politeia de Cartago, una comunidad política no ...griega. Teniendo en cuenta esta decisión aristotélica poco convencional, mi contribución se centrará en primer lugar sobre las razones que llevan al filósofo a incluir este régimen gracias al uso de la categoría conceptual de politeia: esa categoría, en efecto, le permite analizar los fenómenos políticos que presentan una serie de prerrequisitos, aunque no pertenezcan al mundo griego. En la segunda parte del artículo presentaré los criterios empleados por Aristóteles al fin de establecer si el régimen político cartaginiense funciona, mostrando que estos criterios provienen en su mayoría de los libros 'empíricos' (4-6) de la Política.
En el libro 4 de la Política de Aristóteles encontramos una forma de constitución recta (he mése politeía) que se da cuando los mésoi, los ciudadanos de recursos moderados, son, no solo numerosos, ...sino mayoritarios. Los ciudadanos medios garantizan el gobierno de la ley y de la razón, fundamentan la amistad entre ciudadanos y la estabilidad del régimen. Nos planteamos en este ensayo qué relación tiene esta forma constitucional con la politia, entendida como mezcla de democracia y oligarquía; con la democracia, como gobierno de la mayoría; y con la aríste politeía, basada en la virtud de sus ciudadanos. Politeia (Πολιτεία in Hellenic) as a fundamental concept of legal philosophy and political philosophy can be interpreted in various meanings such as state, constitution, republic, citizenship etc. ...Though the fact that this term has a broad scale of meaning might, prima facie, seem confusing, such nature of the concept can, in light of its hermeneutics, hold light to ancient conception of law, ethics and politics. To this end, this study aims a thorough analysis of the concept by handling every meaning attached to the term Politeia in ancient texts that survive today, and suggesting possible hermeneutic connections between those meanings. It is expected that this method would not only clarify the entire possible meanings of the term Politeia, but would help understanding ancient legal and political conceptions of the ancient times.
Hukuk felsefesinin ve siyaset biliminin temel kavramı olan Politeia sözcüğü devlet, anayasa, cumhuriyet gibi muhtelif anlamlarda kullanılan bir terimdir. Söz konusu sözcüğün çok sayıda anlama sahip olması ilk bakışta kafa karıştırıcı gibi görünse bile hermenötik açıdan ilk çağdaki hukuk, etik ve siyaset anlayışını kavramaya ışık tutabilir. Bu amaçla, bu çalışma günümüze kadar gelebilmiş olan ilk çağ eserlerinde Politeia terimine izafe edilmiş olan her anlamı ele almak ve söz konusu anlamlar arasındaki muhtemel hermenötik bağlantıları kurmak suretiyle meseleyi derinlemesine analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu yöntem sayesinde Politeia teriminin sahip olduğu anlamların tamamının aydınlatılmasıyla kalınmaması, ilk çağdaki hukuki ve siyasi anlayışın kavranmasının kolaylaşması umulmaktadır.
Does democracy have a bright future? This brief paper addresses this question and argues, that, thanks to Prometheus, political “animals” can build a better-managed corral for their common living ...which includes a better provision of education for all “animals.” A historical analysis of the long past may be used to discern what lies ahead. Democracy requires education and virtue, or to put it in one word, it requires pedagogy. The higher the level of pedagogy, the closer a politeia would come to an ideal democracy. Sometimes democracy is confused with equality in everything. Political “animals” are not equal, and political systems which treat people with different abilities equally have no future. An ideal society should discriminate according to levels of education obtained and the acquisition of material wealth. If the politeia is ideal, then each citizen has the same opportunity to become more educated and wealthier. In this free competition of being educated and the acquisition of individually made material wealth, ideal societies can flourish as Hesiod postulated in the 8th Century BCE and become stable despite Polybius’ predictions in the 2nd-1st Century BCE of the inevitable historical cyclicality of political systems. Este artículo analiza la estructura genérica y los fundamentos de la Lacedaimonion Politeia de Jenofonte. La Lac. ha sido frecuentemente considerada como un elogio o defensa de Esparta. Sin embargo, ...su retórica y estructura narrativa tienen poca similitud con prácticas contemporáneas para la composición de encomios o defensas. Aun cuando esto no impide un motivo elogioso o defensivo, examinar el tipo de retórica y los patrones narrativos de Jenofonte revela distintas afiliaciones genéricas, mostrando que la Lac., al igual que muchos otros escritos de Jenofonte, es un trabajo híbrido con características de la literatura de politeiai y de la investigación filosófica. En efecto, una cuidadosa pesquisa, en particular, de la manera en que Jenofonte utiliza interlocutores imaginarios (característica compartida por ambos tipos de escritura) sugiere que el encomio no puede haber sido el objetivo de este tratado.
As part of the ongoing reassessment of Xenophon's philosophical works, scholars have taken a renewed interest in the relationship between Xenophon and Plato, who occasionally criticize one another's ...works. Although ancient commentators assumed that the two men must have been rivals, a closer look at each one's comments on the other's work reveals that their criticisms were more philosophical than personal. After discussing two examples in which Plato and Xenophon criticize one another's works, in this paper I suggest that an unusual comment made by Xenophon about Lycurgus, the legendary Spartan lawgiver, is an oblique but critical reference to a statement in Plato's Symposium about Lycurgus' wisdom.

a revised analysis of the tradition about the ‘reforms of Ephialtes’ in Athens (ca. 461 b. c.), focusing on the many inconsistencies regarding their contents, author, and context. The paper argues ...that the reforms as we know them were invented, essentially, by a fourth-century tradition that belongs to the history of ideas and to the biased debate about the democracy, rather than to constitutional history. While the reforms cannot be regarded as a pivotal enactment and cannot contribute to reconstructing the historical phases of the Athenian constitution, they shed light on how the ongoing criticism of the democracy retrospectively shaped the portrayal of the Athenian past.
