Der Schwarze Rindenbrand, der von Pilzen aus der Gattung Diplodia hervorgerufen wird, stellt eine zunehmende Bedrohung für den Kernobstanbau in Deutschland dar. Um die Verbreitung der Erkrankung im ...Bundesgebiet zu ermitteln, wurden in einem nicht repräsentativen Monitoring 423 Rindenproben mit verdächtigen Symptomen aus allen Bundesländern untersucht. In 62 % der untersuchten Proben waren Pilze aus der Gattung Diplodia zu isolieren, wobei die Art D. bulgarica mit 56,6 %, gefolgt von D. seriata mit 28,3 % das Diplodia-Artenspektrum dominiert haben. D. malorum (7,8 %), D. mutila (4,9 %), D. juglandis (1,6 %) und D. intermedia (0,8 %) traten dagegen relativ selten auf, wobei die beiden letztgenannten Arten Erstnachweise an Apfel in Deutschland sind.

Hintergrund
Um Gewohnheitsverhalten zu entwickeln, bedarf es verschiedenen Autoren zufolge etwa 6 bis 9 Wochen regelmäßigen Praktizierens. Über den Einfluss von Wohlbefinden und ...Stimmung auf diesen Prozess ist jedoch nur wenig bekannt.
Ziel der Arbeit
Die Studie versucht Aufschluss über verhaltensbezogene Bedingungen zu geben, die zur Entwicklung eines Gewohnheitsverhaltens beitragen. Dabei werden die Aspekte Regelmäßigkeit, zeitliche Konsequenz sowie Wohlbefinden und Stimmung untersucht.
Methoden
In einer 12-wöchigen Längsschnittstudie wählten 48 Teilnehmer ein gesundheitsorientiertes Verhalten und praktizieren dieses täglich. In einer wöchentlichen Befragung mussten die Teilnehmer Angaben zur Stabilität des gewählten Verhaltens sowie zur Stimmung machen. Hierfür wurde der Self-Report Habit Index (SRHI) sowie das Profile of Mood States (POMS) eingesetzt. Gleichzeitig wurden Daten zur Regelmäßigkeit und zeitlichen Konsequenz sowie zum Wohlbefinden erfasst.
Ergebnisse
Ein signifikanter Anstiegt im SRHI deutet auf eine Entwicklung von Gewohnheitsverhalten v. a. in den ersten Wochen hin. Es konnten signifikante Unterschiede hinsichtlich Regelmäßigkeit, zeitlicher Konsequenz und Stimmung, jedoch nicht in Bezug auf Wohlbefinden nachgewiesen werden.
Schlussfolgerung
Die Untersuchung bestätigt die Bedeutung von Regelmäßigkeit sowie einem stabilen zeitlichen Kontext bei der Entwicklung von Gewohnheitsverhalten und deutet auf einen Einfluss der Stimmung auf diesen Prozess hin.

Hot water treatment (HWT) has been demonstrated to be a safe and effective method to control postharvest diseases. In the present study, the effect of HWT (45°C for 10min) was investigated on the response of apple fruit against Botrytis cinerea, Colletotrichum acutatum and Neofabraea vagabunda infections. In vivo experiments were conducted with apples treated with HW and then inoculated with pathogen spore suspensions 0, 3, 6 and 24h after the treatment. In vitro experiments were carried out in order to investigate the HWT effect on the pathogenesis enzyme activities of the three pathogens. These assays were conducted with the crude protein extracts (CPEs) derived from the hot water treated apples. A significant reduction of rot incidence was observed in fruit inoculated at 6h (B. cinerea 22.7% and C. acutatum 11.0%) and 3h (N. vagabunda 68.8%) after HWT with respect to the controls (22.0, 18.5 and 19.67mm, respectively). CPEs extracted from hot water treated fruit inoculated at 6h and 3h showed the highest conidia germination inhibition (B. cinerea 85.6%; C. acutatum 52.7% and N. vagabunda 83.1%) with respect to the controls (74.0, 71.0 and 90.3% of conidia germination, respectively). A significant reduction of pathogenesis enzyme activities of the three pathogens was detected when pathogens were exposed to CPEs derived from hot water treated apples. The results showed that HWT can stimulate a defense response on apple against some postharvest pathogens.

Founded in Kilgore, Texas, in 1939-1940 by the incomparable Gussie Nell Davis, the Rangerettes have performed for national and international audiences, appearing frequently at events such as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and major football bowl games across the nation, including the New Year's Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas each year since 1951. An icon of Americana, the red-white-and-blue clad Rangerettes have drawn the attention of numerous photographers and writers seeking to understand the enduring appeal of a group that some might view as anachronistic. O. Rufus Lovett, a fine art photographer who has taught at Kilgore College for more than thirty years, began photographing the 'Rettes in 1989. His interpretive photo essay in this book expresses his fascination with "the glamour of the Rangerettes' performances juxtaposed with the small-town atmosphere, football turf, metal bleachers, chain-link fences, and asphalt and concrete environment." In Lovett's masterfully composed photographs, the Rangerette performances captivate with their multiplicity of "shapes, patterns, and designs." While Lovett treats the 'Rettes as an artistic subject, he also captures the esprit de corps that keeps the girls smiling even when they have to march on icy pavement and prompts their mothers to wear T-shirts that proudly proclaim "Rette Mom." An affectionate, yet unsentimental and occasionally irreverent portrait, Kilgore Rangerettes beautifully conveys the timeless quality of this unique subculture of young American womanhood.
Zusammenfassung
Ziel der Untersuchungen war es, herauszufinden, ob glatte Berostung auf Früchten mit einem Glanz-(Luster-)Sensor nicht invasiv und zeitnah erkannt werden kann – unter dem Einfluss von ...Sorte, Schalenfarbe und Oberflächenkrümmung, d. h. Messposition auf der konkaven Frucht. Dazu wurden Birnen dreier Sorten aus dem LEH auf dreierlei Weise untersucht, zuerst visuell auf Berostungsart und -verteilung, mit dem 3D Farbmikroskop auf Rauigkeitstiefe und Oberflächenbeschaffenheit und mit einem Glanz- bzw. Lustersensor.
‘Conference’ Birnen aus Belgien wiesen die stärkste flächige glatte Berostung im bauchigen Bereich des Kelches und fleckige Berostung am Stielende auf, ‘Alexander Lucas’ aus Deutschland kleine flächige Berostung im Bauchbereich mit sonst glatter unberosteter Schale und ‘Abate Fetel’ aus Italien flächige glatte Berostung in den oberen cm nahe am Stielansatz der Frucht.
Untersuchungen mit einem 3D Farb-Mikroskop bei 200facher Vergrößerung zeigten eine 2,5 fach höhere Rauigkeitstiefe – als Maß der Unebenheit der Fruchtschale – bei den berosteten Schalenpartien der ‘Conference’ Birnen von ca. 50 µm im Vergleich zu den glatten, unberosteten Schalenarealen der ‘Alexander Lucas’ Birnen mit nur ca. 20 µm.
Schwach berostete Früchte der Birnensorte ‘Alexander Lucas’ erreichten signifikant höhere und solche von ‘Abate Fetel’ tendenziell höhere Luster-(Glanz-)werte mit geringerer Streuung der Messwerte als stark berostete Früchte der gleichen Sorte. Luster-(Glanz-)werte im schmalen Halsbereich lagen etwas höher als im bauchigen Bereich der Frucht; dunkle Schalenfarbe wies höhere Lusterwerte auf als helle.
Diese ersten Untersuchungen mit 180 Einzelmessungen deuten darauf hin, dass die Erkennung glatter Berostung mit diesem Sensorsystem auf einer Kombination von Farbe und Oberflächenbeschaffenheit bzw. Rauheit beruht. Weiterer Forschungsbedarf besteht.
Die Ergebnisse stehen im Einklang mit denen bei Pflaumen, bei denen ebenfalls eine raue, bereifte Oberfläche geringe, aber eine spiegelnde, glatte, polierte Fruchtoberfläche höhere Lusterwerte erzeugte.
It is widely accepted that aromas from plant essential oils show some mental and physiological effects that are often called "aromachology" effects. However, there are few reports exhibiting the ...clear scientific evidence on aromachology effects of essential oil. In this study, we tested aromachology effects of essential oils from two lavenders (Lavandula angustifolia (called "true lavender") and L. hybrid (called "lavandin")). Lavender essential oil is believed to have relaxing effects. POMS (Profile of Mood States) test was tried to reveal the mental effects of the oils on human volunteers. Some relaxing effects such as decrease of "fatigue" feeling were observed by giving aroma of both the lavender essential oils. Power spectral analysis on R-R intervals of heartbeat was used for evaluating the physiological effects of the lavender oils on human autonomic activity. Aroma of the lavender oil from L. angustifolia (called "true lavender") caused an increase of human parasympathetic nerve activity, but the oil from L. hybrid did not show such an effect. To reveal key compounds causing such a difference in the physiological effect, volatile compounds of the essential oils were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. The similar contents of linalool and linalyl acetate were included in both the essential oils, but the content of camphor was higher in the oil of lavandin. Since camphor is believed to have the ability of increasing sympathetic nerve activity, this compound may offset the relaxing effects of linalool and linalyl acetate.
