L’auteur s’intéresse à l’activité interprétative quand elle s’applique aux films. Son point de départ est un constat : les interprétations des publics sont diverses, retenant du film des aspects ...souvent différents. Pourtant chaque membre du public est toujours persuadé que les significations qu’il trouve au film appartiennent à celui-ci et ne sont pas dépendantes de son jugement. Pour résoudre ce paradoxe, l’auteur prend l’exemple de plusieurs interprétations de Vertigo, film célèbre par la diversité des interprétations de sa narration. Il cherche à comprendre comment se développent des interprétations variées et cohérentes du film. Empruntant la notion de cadre d’interprétation (Fish, Goffman) pour mesurer les rencontres entre un film et des spectateurs, il montre que chaque critique définit les critères de son jugement en fonction du contexte culturel, politique, etc. (du cadre d’interprétation) où il se trouve. Partant d’un même cadre, plusieurs interprétations peuvent cependant être différentes. Il faut alors recourir à la théorie énonciative de Käte Hamburger pour comprendre comment se différencient de façon fine des interprétations proches par les critères de jugement employés mais éloignées par le point de vue.
While French literature itself has had many dealings with Freudian and post-Freudian psychoanalysis over the last century, for instance, in the work of André Breton, Serge Doubrovsky, and Marie ...Cardinal, other conceptions of the mind emerging from science, philosophy, and religion have also made their mark on literary culture, and the individual characteristics of these alternatives are not always well served by interpretations using a psychoanalytic framework. In French literature, while behaviorism plays a role in Sartre's growing interest in conditioning as a limiting factor in human freedom, even at his most pessimistic he maintains a respectful distance from the movement.
Nathalie Sarraute (1900–99) is regarded as one of the major French novelists of the twentieth century. Initially hailed as a leading theorist and exemplar of the nouveau roman, she has come to be ...regarded as an important author in her own right with her own distinctive concerns. In this major 2000 study of Sarraute, the first in English since her death, Ann Jefferson offers a fresh perspective on Sarraute's entire oeuvre - her novels, her outstanding autobiography Enfance and her influential critical writings - by focusing on the crucial issue of difference which emerges as one of her central preoccupations. Drawing on a variety of critical approaches, Jefferson explores Sarraute's fundamental ambivalence to differences of various kinds including questions of gender and genre. She argues that difference is simultaneously asserted and denied in Sarraute's work, and that the notion of difference, so often celebrated by other writers and thinkers, is shown in Sarraute's work to the inseparable from ambiguity and anxiety.
...Ouvrez is Sarraute's last published work, though its appearance in 1997 prevented its inclusion in the original 1996 edition of her complete works in the Bibliothèque de la Pléiade. The highly ...theatrical and humorous sketches that compose Ouvrez should render it more readily accessible to non-specialist audiences than other Sarrautean texts which tend to mainly interest those passionate about the New Novel or experimental contemporary French fiction, yet there is only one translation to date (in German) despite the widespread availability of her other novels and plays in many languages including English.
Dans son œuvre critique Nathalie Sarraute fait à plusieurs reprises mention de Proust parmi les auteurs qui l'ont inspirée. Elle reconnaît que l'œuvre de Proust a été pour elle « un grand ...bouleversement » et elle lui attribue une influence profonde sur sa conception littéraire. Dans cette étude nous nous posons la question de savoir si ce rapport à Proust, soutenu par Nathalie Sarraute dans ses écrits critiques, est également sensible au niveau de l'écriture sarrautienne, de son style. Rapprocher l'écriture de Nathalie Sarraute, connue par la brièveté de ses textes, de celle de Proust, caractérisée par la densité et la longueur des phases, semble, à première vue, une entreprise douteuse. Une analyse stylistique de Tropismes, largement basée sur Études de style de Leo Spitzer, pourrait pourtant montrer que, dans une certaine mesure, Nathalie Sarraute a récrit Proust.

Si el arte deja de representar y abandona su pretensión de comunicar, ¿cómo analizar lo que transcurre desde el momento en el que el artista piensa en hacer una obra hasta el momento en el que el ...espectador piensa frente a ella? ¿Cuáles son las articulaciones que conducen del uno al otro? Aquí, entender las artes como artes del presentar lleva a subrayar el hecho de que la experiencia estética es una aventura sensorial donde todo se juega en los intersticios: entre una singularidad y otra, en la "y" que relaciona los distintos componentes de la obra.
