It is known that cinema has been utilized familiar and famous narratives such as fairy tales and novels during its popularization process. This method was resorted with the intention of producing movies that were able to attract the attention of audience or for the facilitation of the quests of creativity. This study aims to examine how Snow White, a folk tale compiled and published by the German Grimm Brothers in 1812, was adapted into a screenplay in the popular Hollywood and the Turkish Cinema, in the context of popular cross-cultural interaction. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was adapted into an animated movie in the United States in 1937 and a fiction film in Turkey in 1971. The narrative and imaginative components of the fairy tale adaptation movies in both countries were compared from a structural point of view in terms of popular cultural production, and the ones that remained constant and the ones that changed were presented by the method of critical discourse analysis. It was found that the Snow White fairy tale, which was adapted into movies with similarities and differences, was affected by cultural exchange and adapted into movies by localization.
Russian folklorist Vladimir Propp published his work “Morphology of the Folktale” in 1928. In his work, he aimed to
define the structural features of tales. For this reason, based on the Russian tales he studied, he determined some
behaviours or events that bring motion into tales, which he named as “function”. He theorised that 7 characters took
over the functions, which he defined as 31 pieces. According to this, the number of characters and functions does not
change, while the sequence of functions can. Besides, functions can be repeated many times in the same tale. Propp’s
approach is still used as a research method in written literature. The aim of this work is to apply this method to
adaptations. In this way, the features of tales that emerge when tales are transferred from oral literature to written literature and later on from visual to audial dimensions can be observed. A change is commonplace due to the length
of the film, the touches of the scriptwriter and the director and even the characteristics of the cast. Henceforth, the
fabulous images we formed in our minds either as a reader or an audience are determined by other people. At this
point it is important to identfy the differences that arise within the adaptation, without ignoring the difference between
a movie like a tale and a fabulous movie. As mentioned earlier, this can be achieved only by Propp’s method of
structure analysis. This method enables us to find which sequences are changed, omitted or added. Furthermore, it is
also possible to find behaviours that make adaptations vivid although they are not among Propp's 31 functions. Lastly,
it is also possible to determine who has undertaken the functions that belong to Propp or those which have emerged
recently and data concerning the original text can be collected. In conclusion, in this article, “Snow White” that was
written by the Grimm Brothers and another tale adaptation based on it, has been divided into sequences, studied and
variables have been put forward by applying this method that is used when studying tales in life. Moreover, the motions
added to the functions apart from those of Propp’s, have been explained.
Using the conceptual framework of the mirror-stage established by Lacan to describe the initial anchoring of the subject, this paper seeks to interrogate the mirror as the locus of a secondary ...elaboration of the hero’s journey which follows its traditional articulation adumbrated by Joseph Campbell in The Hero with a Thousand Faces. If the goal of the classic hero as Campbell suggests is to exit the nursery which represents the subject’s entrapment in Oedipal triangulation, this study posits that the successful selfrelease of the hero from the nursery simply sees him entering another nursery where the hero’s world is conceived of as a series of infinitely nested nurseries without exit. The mirror and its binding capture become the exemplary point of departure for the secondary elaboration of the journey for which, it turns out, the black heroine is the ideal adventurer. It is no wonder then that Jordan Peele’s Us is replete with mirrors functioning as cinematic signifiers for the portals effecting the subject’s displacement not towards an outer world of aggressive fathers and unobtainable ideal mothers; but, rather into a proximate encounter with the self, one precipitated by the mirror where the goal of the journey –the one that can only be revealed by the black heroine– is the apprehension of the “cipher of her moral destiny” and the unfathomable cartography of her true exit.

Pablo Berger's film, Snow White, is a work that recreates in a singular way the 1920s' silent cinema. This film,
beyond its formal characteristics, situates itself in a conflictual narrative space. ...The conflict is localised precisely
between the hero figure and the failure of the paternal word; established between a femininity that tends to absolute
perfection, becoming therefore an object to be worshiped and another femininity which is manipulative, violent
and devastating. All this is set in a conflictive way, portrayed with great beauty, but with the exclusion of any
bloody scene, or of any reference to violence or animal death.
1970’de Ertem Göreç’in uyarlaması ele alınmıştır. Sonuçta ise, Pamuk Prenses ve Yedi
Cüceler masalının sözlü anlatıdan yazılı anlatıya, animasyon anlatısına ve sinema film
anlatısına her üretildiğinde, ideolojik kaygılarla yapısal değişiklikler yaşamış olduğunu
söylemek mümkündür.
Erroneous mixing of linguistic units is one of the most common departures from the norm in novels. This linguistic device has two functions: 1) it presents the characters in the novel, 2) it ...constitutes a great source of puns and linguistic humor. Such misused words are known as taronyms. This paper presents their use in Dorota Masłowska’s Snow white and Russian red (Wojna polskoruska pod flagą biało-czerwoną) with reference to adverbs. The taronyms were identified among paronyms, synonyms, antonyms and adverbs from the same thematic group. Next, it was analyzed if and how this taronymy was reflected in the Russian translation of the presented novel.
In 2019, Artist Inc. and the Kinnari Ecological Theatre Project presented Snow White and the Apple's Revenge at the Likhandula Festival in Los Baños, the Philippines. Adapting the original Grimm ...version of the fairytale to challenge the validity of GM crops, it was presented in the town where the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is located. In 2019, both IRRI's controversial 'golden rice', a new GM rice containing beta carotene to prevent night blindness, and a new GM apple that does not brown when cut were put on the market, providing the context for the performance.
