Maria Lugones, a feminise philosopher, sociologist, activist and Professor of Comparative Literature and Women's Studies at Bingham ton University in New York State, died on July 14 2020. Sadly, she ...did not live to see the victory of feminists in her country of birth, Argentina, who have won a decades-long battle to legalize abortion, and the replacement of the once popular hashtag #ScraLcy #ItWillBcLaw| with #EsLcy #ItIsLaw.

Cet article retrace une carrière de 5 ans en sociologie, marquée, par le souci constant de son ouverture sur les autres sciences humaines et sociales et explique pourquoi le « paradigme du don », ...bien compris, pourrait leur servir de fondement non exclusif.
One of the most influential articles in management was written by the late sociologist Murray S Davis. The author of several books on humor, human sexuality, and obscenity. Davis wrote an article ...titled ;That's interesting: Towards a phenomenology of sociology and a sociology of phenomenology' that was published in the journal Philosophy of the Social Sciences in 1971. The article is considered a 'cult classic" by many sociologists (Ryan, 2008), and it has also entered the mainstream of management as a required reading in most doctoral programs over the past 50 years. Davis's (1971) position about theoretical contribution the focus of Academy of Management Journal {AMJ), is undoubtedly provocative. He argued, ;'A theorist is considered great not because his theories are true, but because they are interesting. ... In fact the truth of a theory has very little to do with its impact, for a theory can continue to be found interesting even though its truth is disputed even refuted!" (Davis, 1971: 309).
This Presidential Address offers elements for a systematic and cumulative study of destigmatization, or the process by which low-status groups gain recognition and worth. Contemporary sociologists ...tend to focus on inequality in the distribution of resources, such as occupations, education, and wealth. Complementing this research, this address draws attention to “recognition gaps,” defined as disparities in worth and cultural membership between groups in a society. I first describe how neoliberalism promotes growing recognition gaps. Then, drawing on research on stigmatized groups across several societies, I analyze how experiences of stigma and destigmatization are enabled and constrained by various contextual factors and actors, including institutions, cultural repertoires, knowledge workers, and social movement activists. I conclude by proposing a research agenda for the sociology of recognition and destigmatization, and by sketching how social scientists, policymakers, organizations, and citizens can contribute to the reduction of recognition gaps.
New and emerging forms of data, including posts harvested from social media sites such as Twitter, have become part of the sociologist’s data diet. In particular, some researchers see an advantage in ...the perceived ‘public’ nature of Twitter posts, representing them in publications without seeking informed consent. While such practice may not be at odds with Twitter’s terms of service, we argue there is a need to interpret these through the lens of social science research methods that imply a more reflexive ethical approach than provided in ‘legal’ accounts of the permissible use of these data in research publications. To challenge some existing practice in Twitter-based research, this article brings to the fore: (1) views of Twitter users through analysis of online survey data; (2) the effect of context collapse and online disinhibition on the behaviours of users; and (3) the publication of identifiable sensitive classifications derived from algorithms.
