The purpose of the work is to find out the variability of the reflection of the ethno-cultural codes of the traditional Ukrainian costume in the couture creations of the world of high fashion. The ...research methodology is based on the application of a systemic approach, as well as a set of such scientific methods as analytical, comparative, cultural, art history, and semiotic, which makes it possible to comprehensively consider the given issue and formulate well-founded conclusions. Scientific novelty is characterised by a systematic generalisation of the problem of the interaction of ethnic components of culture (at the level of ethno-cultural codes and semantic series) with modern cultural and artistic visions in the dimension of the world of high fashion. It has been found that the specificity of the interaction of fashion and ethnic culture is manifested in the borrowing of folk symbols by fashion, but their embodiment is subject to the sign-symbolic code of modernity, this process actually takes place along the local-global line. Conclusions. Summarising, we note that fashion as a socio-cultural phenomenon is a formed semiosphere, which is a moving structure mediated both by the general cultural trends of its time, and by the ideals and values of society, its preferences. The art of high fashion Haute couture embodies author's samples-concepts, which are endowed with a number of meanings and connotations, relaying them in general. Fashion acts as an open system of cultural interpretations, citations, variability, forming a new semiotic space. The use of ethnic components and ethnocultural codes in high fashion works not only adds to them "depth of sound” and polystylism, but is also included in the artistic postmodern game and exchange of meanings, signs in the symbolic/imaginary/real system, forming new cultural texts. Ukrainian ethno-cultural codes in the practice of high fashion were repeatedly included in the creation of collections of world fashion trends, giving the samples original variability and color. At the same time, the world of high fashion actualises the levels of cultural perception of ethnicity, tradition, updating and expanding the artistic language of modern culture.
The study analyses the morphological structure, semantics and contemporary uses of the neologism kaszotto ‘kashotto’ created in Polish by analogy to the Italianism risotto. The hybrid word-formation ...structured as a semi-calque reveals that the Polish culinary lexicon is being enriched not only through the transfer of Italian terminology or with lexical innovations such as pseudo-Italianisms. The assimilation of Italian cultural and linguistic elements also occurs as a structural and semantic remodelling of the foreign pattern in order to accommodate it to the realities of Polish culture. As illustrated by real examples of use, the new word pattern is replicated. On the sidelines of our linguistic discussion, we propose reflections on the mass reception of Italian culture and the experience of Italianity in today’s Poland, as well as on the semiotic potential of linguistic means carrying information about Italianity in the verbal communication of Polish speakers.
Contemporary approaches to Poland’s Western and Northern Territories revolve around the concept of “postmigration communities”, or more broadly—“postmigration”, understood as a significant feature ...(or set of features) of community and social phenomena. These terms are present not only in academic discourse, but also in discussions on local identity. They are also an essential element of their symbolic status. Based on field research in the Głowczyce commune in Pomerania, the author tackles the issue of inhabitants’ attitudes towards breaking the historical and cultural continuity and the formation of the community from scratch, as well as the role of postmigration in shaping the symbolic status of the place. The article shows the capacity of the term “postmigration”. In residents’ statements, postmigration appears unnamed, as a problem, a challenge, and an asset. Attitudes towards postmigration reveal diverse attempts to cope with the break in historical and cultural continuity, which turns out to still be a significant element of identity processes taking place in the community in question.
Kazakh Poles arriving in Poland through the repatriation program still feel a close bond with the country where they were born, and for many of them it is an integral part of their daily existence. ...Maintaining regular contacts with Kazakhstan (direct or mediated by modern means of communication) and the family left there exerts a constant impact on the repatriates, and shapes their way of life. In this article, I attempt to highlight the actions or lifestyles that depend on this relationship, captured in the course of field research, using the categories of the theory of transnationality in the context of research on migration movements. By placing these activities and analysing them within the trans-local social network operating at various levels, I present a number of factors stimulating and hindering transnational activities. One of the outcomes of these deliberations is diagnosis of how the repatriates’ two-culture potential is put to use.

This paper considers how farmers perceive and respond to climate change policy risks, and suggests that understanding these risk responses is as important as understanding responses to biophysical climate change impacts. Based on a survey of 162 farmers in California, we test three hypotheses regarding climate policy risk: (1) that perceived climate change risks will have a direct impact on farmer's responses to climate policy risks, (2) that previous climate change experiences will influence farmer's climate change perceptions and climate policy risk responses, and (3) that past experiences with environmental policies will more strongly affect a farmer's climate change beliefs, risks, and climate policy risk responses. Using a structural equation model we find support for all three hypotheses and furthermore show that farmers’ negative past policy experiences do not make them less likely to respond to climate policy risks through participation in a government incentive program. We discuss how future research and climate policies can be structured to garner greater agricultural participation. This work highlights that understanding climate policy risk responses and other social, economic and policy perspectives is a vital component of understanding climate change beliefs, risks and behaviors and should be more thoroughly considered in future work.

The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is different as it seems to bring restoration to the original character of motor culture with its defining features of individualism, freedom, and opportunity achieved through mobility.
This critical analysis of the "cultivation" literature reveals 3 conceptions of the term: (a) George Gerbner's macrosystem explanation of mass media processes and effects, (b) a pattern of ...operational practices that searches for relationships between television exposure and a wide range of cultivation indicators, and (c) a general forum of explorations of media influence where researchers break away from Gerbner's conceptualizations and boundaries. Using the criteria of heuristic value, empirical support, and precision, this essay evaluates the contribution this large cultivation literature has made to increasing our understanding of the mass media.
This study investigates media effects on stereotypic attitudes toward immigrants in a political campaign that dealt with the naturalization of immigrants. By combining a content analysis of the ...campaign coverage with a 2‐wave panel survey, the study found that negative news portrayals of immigrants increased stereotypic attitudes in the public in the course of the campaign. Additionally, the frequent exposure to positive news portrayals of immigrants reduced the activation of negative outgroup attitudes. However, these findings are contingent on people's issue‐specific knowledge. Only people with low to moderate knowledge were influenced by negative and positive news stories about immigrants in the campaign. Well‐informed people were resistant to the effects of positive and news portrayals of immigrants.
