Turkic languages present particularly rich sources of data for the study of language contact, given the number and diversity of languages with which they have been in contact. Many common, false ...generalisations are laid bare and the methodology used in evaluating particular instances of language contact can also be used with profit by students of languages other than the Turkic.

Heritage language bilingualism refers to contexts where a minority language spoken at home is (one of) the first native language(s) of an individual who grows up and typically becomes dominant in the ...societal majority language. Heritage language bilinguals often wind up with grammatical systems that differ in interesting ways from dominant-native speakers growing up where their heritage language is the majority one. Understanding the trajectories and outcomes of heritage language bilingual grammatical competence, performance, language usage patterns, identities and more related topics sits at the core of many research programs across a wide array of theoretical paradigms. The study of heritage language bilingualism has grown exponentially over the past two decades. This expansion in interest has seen, in parallel, extensions in methodologies applied, bridges built between closely related fields such as the study of language contact and linguistic attrition. As is typical in linguistics, not all languages are studied to the same degree. The present volume showcases what Turkish as a heritage language brings to bear for key questions in the study of heritage language bilingualism and beyond. In many ways, Turkish is an ideal language to be studied because of its large diaspora across the world, in particular Europe. The papers in this volume are diverse: from psycholinguistic, to ethnographic, to classroom-based studies featuring Turkish as a heritage language. Together they equal more than their subparts, leading to the conclusion that understudied heritage languages like Turkish provide missing pieces to the puzzle of understanding the variables that give rise to the continuum of outcomes characteristic of heritage language speakers.
This study addresses generic expressions in Turkish, the nominal and verbal morphosyntactic markers involved in their derivations, and the interpretation they give rise to. It is demonstrated that ...the aorist suffix {-(V)r} is the only true verbal marker of characterizing genericity in that it always introduces GEN into the structure. The nominal predicate marker {-DIr} is shown to be compatible with a characterizing reading if an individual-level predicate is present, but never encodes a generic reading on its own because it is not a GENintroducer. The analysis is demonstrated to account for a number of facts about Turkish generics built on verbal as well as nominal predicates. Overall, in contrast to the argument that all generic expressions are bipartite structures involving reference to kinds, the analysis proposed in this study supports the proposal that statements of characterizing genericity are tripartite structures involving a generic operator.
Bu çalışmada, 1950’lerden 1980’lere Yönetim ve Organizasyon disiplinin dilsel gelişimi seçilmiş ders kitaplarının belge çözümlemesine tabi tutulması yoluyla incelenmiştir. Farklı kurumları temsil ...eden yazarların farklı tarihlerde basılmış eserlerindeki dillerinin zamanla değişim gösterip göstermediği sorgulanmıştır. Yapılan çözümlemelerde yazarların özellikle 1950’lerde ve 1960’larda hem İşletme Alanının hem de Yönetim ve Organizasyon disiplini dilinin oluşturulmasında iki meydan okumayla karşılaştıkları görülmüştür: Birincisi dilde tam karşılığı olmayan batı kökenli terimlere karşılık bulmak; ikincisi, siyasi gelişmelere bağlı olarak Türkiye’deki dil tartışmalarının etkisi altında disiplin dili kurmaya çalışmak. Yazarların dille ilişkileri açısından şu tavrı geliştirdikleri görülmüştür: (a) Bir bütün olarak Türk dilini ve özelde disiplin dilini yeniden kurmak; (b) yalnızca disiplin dilini kurmaya çalışmak; (c) dille ilgili bir iddia gütmeden anlaşılırlığı öncelemek; (d) dille ilgili hiçbir kaygı taşımadan Türkçeyi olduğu haliyle etkili kullanmayı isteyenler. Dil konusu aynı zamanda ideolojik bir tartışma olduğu için, yazarların dönemsel siyasi gelişmeler karşısında dile ilişkin yaklaşımlarında değişiklik olduğuna ilişkin ipuçlarına rastlanmıştır. Yazarların en benzeşen yönü, batı kökenli terimlere eski Türkçe kelimelere oranla daha hoşgörülü olmalarıdır. Dil sorununun ideolojik alandan 1980’lerden itibaren sıyrılmaya başladığı tespit edilmiştir. Ancak, dil üzerinden üretilen siyasi gerilimlerin bir yansıması olarak disiplin dilinin olgunlaşması ve dilsel bütünlüğün sağlanması yolunda hala alınacak mesafe olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
İlk olarak Afrika dillerinde tespit edilen seri fiil yapıları (SFY), birleşik fiillerle benzer şekilde iki fiilin herhangi bir baǧlaç veya baǧlantı unsuru olmadan art arda gelmesiyle oluşmaktadır. ...Başlangıçta bir tür birleşik (compound) olarak kabul edilen bu yapıların tipik özellikleri tespit edildikçe birleşik fiilden bazı önemli farklılıklar gösterdiǧi ortaya konulmuş, bu yapılardaki birden fazla fiilin birleştirme yoluyla deǧil serileştirme yoluyla bir araya getirildiǧi tespit edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada, Türkçedeki SFY-birleşik fiil ilişkisi üzerinde durulacaktır. Çalışmanın amacı SFY ve birleşik fiilin birbirinden farklı iki kavram olduǧunu ortaya koymak deǧildir; Türkçedeki bazı birleşik fiillerin seri fiillerin gramerleşmesi veya sözlükselleşmesi sonucu oluşan yapılar olduǧunu vurgulamaktır. Türkçedeki birleşik fiil sınıflandırılmalarında farklı adlarla (ikili fiil, modal yardımcı fiil, tasvir fiil, yarı tasvirî fiil, kip ekleriyle kurulan birleşik fiil) nitelendirilen bazı birleşik fiillerin SFY olabileceǧi düşünülmektedir. Özellikle ikinci fiilin gramerleşerek yardımcı fiil özelliǧi kazandıǧı tasvir fiillerle asimetrik SFY'nin oluşum bakımından benzerlik göstermesi, tasvir fiil üzerine yapılan tartışmalara farklı bir boyut kazandırabilecek düzeydedir. Türkçe konuşma dilinde kullanılan kaç git, kap gel, gel al, al git vb. SFY örneklerini birleşik fiil kapsamında deǧerlendirmek oldukça zordur. Ayrıca SFY olarak kabul edilen bazı fiil oluşumlarının sözlükselleşerek birleşik isim (kapkaç, kaçgöç, çekyat, gelgit, vb.) oluşturması, birleşik fiil ile SFY'nin birbirine ne düzeyde yakınlaştıǧını gösteren önemli ipuçlarıdır.
