During the 1990's, many members of the German national minority have awaken from the several decades long sleep in 'ethnic hibernation'. Several associations have been founded at that time, with an ...aim to gather and encourage ethnic feelings of the Germans living in Vojvodina. These associations work toward revitalization and reconstruction of the German ethnic and cultural identity. There are quite a few of such institutions today, and one of them is German association promoting good neighbor relations Karlowitz, Sremski Karlovci. This paper will discuss transformation of an ethnic identity strategy among the Germans in Sremski Karlovci; in addition, I will analyze modus operandi by which this local association aims at keeping and encouraging certain elements of the ethnic and cultural particulars. The results of the research point out how a relatively small group, without social power, can define and redefine its own identity, in regards to historical, social and economic conditions.
A contribution to knowledge of the poorly known bryophyte flora of Backa region in Serbia is given in the present paper. The total of bryophyte species recorded in the region is raised from seven to ...46. Six nationally threatened and two species threatened on the European level are found in the investigated area.

After the end of World War I and the dissolution of Austro-Hungary the conditions were met to unify the Serbs of Vojvodina and Serbia. There were doubts in the Serbian people as to how to make this ...unification happen: whether Vojvodina should unify immediately with Serbia or by the mediation of the National Council in Zagreb. The answer to this question was given by the Great National Assembly held on 25 November in Novi Sad where a decision was passed on the immediate unification with Serbia.
A detailed qualitative investigation of the desmid community in the territory of the Province of Vojvodina (Northern Serbia, part of the Pannonian Plain) revealed a surprisingly high number of desmid ...taxa. Although most of the desmids were marked as rare, according to the results of physico-chemical analyses of water samples, several taxa were frequently recorded in habitats that are generally deemed unsuitable for desmids. The ecological characteristics of 18 desmid taxa, some of which known as acidophilic and/or oligotrophic, are briefly discussed. The unexpected presence of many desmid taxa is explained by assuming that their tolerance threshold to various physico-chemical parameters has changed considerably.
The provincial elections in the Serbian region of Vojvodina are preconditioned to demonstrate the typical effects of second-order competition. Its main features include the weak competences of ...regional institutions in a specific shared-rule arrangement, which are limited to only one province, and a non-politicized regional identity. The trend of simultaneous voting, along with a recently aligned electoral system and a centralized political arena, has created a nationalized regional competition, emulating national political dynamics. This claim is substantiated through an analysis of candidates, campaigns, and results, as well as voters' behaviour, the last being operationalized through the dissimilarity index, both on the provincial level and on the level of polling-stations.
A survey was carried out to assess the levels of 20 organochlorine and 15 organophosphate pesticides in wheat grown in two regions of the Vojvodina Province in Serbia. A total of 49 samples of seven ...wheat varieties were collected during the 2004 harvest. In addition, a composite sample of cultivated wheat varieties was prepared from 36 samples coming from the same regions harvested in 2003 for comparison. Official method of analysis AOAC 970.52 was applied for the determination of pesticide residues. The ranges of mean values for organochlorine residues were 32-47 ng g-1 for β-HCH; 28-41 ng g-1 for -HCH; <1-61 ng g-1 for aldrin; 5-132 ng g-1 for dieldrin; 15-111 ng g-1 for endrin ketone; and <1-77 ng g-1 for endrin aldehyde. For organophosphate residues the ranges were: 7-27 ng g-1 for thionazin; <5-35 ng g-1 for disulphoton; 42-79 ng g-1 for parathion methyl; 422-1336 ng g-1 for chlorpyriphos; and <5-281 ng g-1 for parathion. The mean levels of residues were compared with the regulated maximum levels according to the European Commission and Serbian national regulation, and the average intake of residues from wheat-based products was estimated for the Serbian population.

The subject of this paper is the inventory and classification of functional values of relevant conditions and factors, with the emphasis on fundamental resources, comprising natural and social ...tourist attractions, which stand in immediate connection with the rural tourism in mountain part of Vojvodina province, on the case study of settlement of Gudurica (in Panonic part of Serbia); as well as establishing possibilities and strategies for the development of the settlement as an eco-raral tourist destination. The goal of the paper originates from the contemporary trend of eco-rural tourism in the world and excellent conditions for its development in Gudurica. Assuming the fact, that such realization has failed, the paper offers directions based on potential resources, i.e. the strategy of eco-rural tourism development and indicates the specific features and significance for demographic and economic recovery of the village. The basic tasks of the paper are based on the inventory and qualitative approach to tourism valorization of Gudurica as a potential eco-rural destination. The tasks consist of the following: the selection and evaluation of functional values of natural resources of the environment; the classification of cultural and historic heritage values from the exploitation point of view concerning the needs of eco-rural tourism foundation and development; the development of the receptive base of ecotourism; the conservation and reconstruction of objects which are the key features of the continuity and development of tradition; the initiation of eco-rural tourism on family farms, public objects with preserved rustic elements, as well as households built according to contemporary building concepts (secondary importance); the concept of various and dynamic tourist offer; the highest utilization of complementary environment values; and the unification of eco-raral tourism with industrial activities, branches groups, and sub groups of activities which with its authenticity and tradition make a constituent part of tourism in general.
This article presents the results of the ethnical distance measuring in Vojvodina, the north Province of the Republic of Serbia. The measuring was carried out on autumn 2002, during realization of ...the wider project of multiculturalism research in the mentioned region. According to the results the ethnical distances in Vojvodina are quite equalized and they are grouped around the attitude "all the same". Vojvodinian Serbs are more favorable partners for the majority of social contacts, and the relatively largest distance is shown toward Roma. The ethnical distance results also discovers two very important factors for understanding the interethnic relations in Vojvodina: first, the "rational" kind of social contacts with the members of the other ethnical groups are more preferable for the majority of respondents, and second, they have very equal distances toward their own ethnical groups.
This paper is one of the results of the empirical research of the problem of regionalisation and multiculturality on the territory of Vojvodina. Only the part of gathered data, which concerns the ...regionalisation of Serbia and the status of Vojvodina, is used. Claiming that a regional state is not only a special form of the complex organization of state authorities, but also a special form of the whole social life, the author tries to define clear and reliable criteria of "good" or "desirable" regionalisation, which would avoid extreme centralism and extreme regionalism. Following the statistical territorial units, according to the standards of the European Union (NUTS) the author recommends the a regional structure, understood as a special form of division of authorities: Serbia as a state or federal unit (NUTS 1) Vojvodina and Kosovo and Metohija as provinces (NUTS 2), regions (NUTS 3) sub-regions (NUTS 4) and municipalities (NUTS 5). In this context, it is suggested that the future Constitution of the Republic of Serbia should define only provinces and municipalities (NUTS 2 and NUTS 5), while for the forming of regions and sub-regions (NUTS 3 and NUTS 4) only the procedure and principles should be given - the rest would be left to spontaneous initiative of potential regional or sub-regional units. Two undesirable things would be avoided: A regionalisation imposed from "above", which could be understood as uncovered centralism, and a regionalism from "bellow" which tries to hide separatism under the mask of regionalisation and which leads not to better functioning and faster development of Serbia, but to disintegration.

This paper is a continuation of a study on regionalisation and family, within the project named Sociological Aspects of Multiculturality and Regionalisation and their influence on the development of ...AP Vojvodina and the Republic of Serbia. The author focuses her attention to operationalisation of the theoretical and methodological premises that were developed in the previous paper (Tripković, 2002: 111-127), which means that it represents the results of the second phase of the research plan. This phase includes adjusting of theoretical concepts to the fieldwork displaying the results of the research and the analysis of the findings that put a family in the context of confronting different identities, above all national and regional. As possible "identity difference" was emphasized in the research, theoretical and methodological apparatus was adjusted to this goal. That is why in this paper the replies of interviewees that can suggest or reject the assumption that their national identity can influence significantly the evaluation of identity specificities are presented and analyzed, concerning more or less visible aspects of family life, like welfare status, relations between spouses, respect to the elder, family harmony, number of children, connections with relatives, etc.
