BACKGROUND/PURPOSE:Optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography is a new noninvasive method to measure peripapillary microcirculation in various retinal layers, separately. In this case series, we ...investigate whether large medical intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction (>50% of the untreated baseline value) to IOP≤18 mm Hg influences peripapillary angioflow density (PAFD, percentage of the analyzed retinal area) in the retinal nerve fiber layer in high pressure (IOP≥35 mm Hg) ocular hypertensive and glaucoma eyes.
METHODS:The AngioVue OCT (software version 2015.100.0.33) was used for PAFD measurements in 6 eyes of 4 consecutive newly detected young patients (age32 to 45 y; 2 ocular hypertensive and 4 pigment dispersion/glaucoma eyes). PAFD was measured on high quality images (signal strength index >50) at untreated baseline and 2 to 4 weeks later when the IOP was medically reduced. The PAFD measurements were immediately followed by IOP measurements.
RESULTS:Untreated and under treatment IOP ranged between 35 and 42 mm Hg, and 12 and 18 mm Hg, respectively (IOP decrease >50% in all cases). Peripapillary PAFD increased in all cases, in 5 cases the increase was greater than the baseline value plus 2 test-retest variability determined earlier by us on glaucoma eyes.
CONCLUSIONS:The results suggest that large medical IOP reduction may result in clinically significant increase of peripapillary capillary perfusion in the retinal nerve fiber layer in young individuals with high untreated IOP. To evaluate the clinical usefulness of OCT angiography in the management of glaucoma detailed prospective clinical studies are necessary.

First-person poetry is a familiar genre in Latin literature. Propertius, Catullus, and Horace deployed the first-person speaker in a variety of ways that either bolster or undermine the link between ...this figure and the poet himself. In I, the Poet, Kathleen McCarthy offers a new approach to understanding the ubiquitous use of a first-person voice in Augustan-age poetry, taking on several of the central debates in the field of Latin literary studies—including the inheritance of the Greek tradition, the shift from oral performance to written collections, and the status of the poetic "I-voice." In light of her own experience as a twenty-first century reader, for whom Latin poetry is meaningful across a great gulf of linguistic, cultural, and historical distances, McCarthy positions these poets as the self-conscious readers of and heirs to a long tradition of Greek poetry, which prompted them to explore radical forms of communication through the poetic form. Informed in part by the "New Lyric Studies, " I, the Poet will appeal not only to scholars of Latin literature but to readers across a range of literary studies who seek to understand the Roman contexts which shaped canonical poetic genres.
This topic takes Vue framework as the front-end framework of e-commerce middle office management system, uses springboot framework as the construction mode of back-end framework, and uses Java to ...write function code.
The data of the system is stored in MySQL database, which can be provided to the employee end of registered employees and the management end of managers. Employees can complete registration and login through the e-commerce middle office management system, and then view department information, store information Warehouse information and view order information and add, view commodity file information. The system administrator manages employee information, department information, store type information, store information, warehouse information, commodity file information and order information through the management end. Through the realization of the different functions of the above employees and administrators, the normal operation of the system is ensured, and the process involving stores, commodities and orders is monitored, So as to make a complete set of e-commerce middle office management system that can be provided to all kinds of users.
Arrival (Denis Villeneuve, 2016) explores the link between language and cognition, espousing the linguistic theory known as the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, according to which the language one speaks ...shapes one’s cognition and worldview. The film focuses on a linguist who, after learning how to speak the language of extra-terrestrial visitors who recently landed on Earth, finds out that she can think and feel like the aliens do—she thus undergoes a revolutionary transformation, as the alien language enables the protagonist to transcend humanity’s view of time, thus gaining the capacity to foresee the future. This article suggests that by staging such a perceptual and cognitive revolution, the film explores the possibility of cinematic identification: by identifying with the protagonist, can the viewers also experience a worldview that is so radically other? I posit that the film celebrates the ethical dimension of identification while encouraging viewers to reflect upon the limits of cinematic identification and, in the process, the limits of the human capacity to identify with an Other.
Recurrence risk of villitis of unknown etiology (VUE) remains uncertain because of few studies and their methodologic limitations. We calculated recurrence risk in a large population of deliveries ...after minimizing important biases and compared it to others via systematic review and meta-analysis.
Over 11 years of placenta pathology reports on singleton deliveries were retrieved and searched for ‘villitis’ or ‘VUE’. Cases of acute villitis and chronic villitis from infections were eliminated via pathologist review. Reports were merged to data containing gestational age, parity and gravida. Recurrence risk of VUE per patient, per parity and per gravida was determined among patients with ≥2 placentas examined for deliveries ≥20 weeks gestation. Results were compared to those from articles and their references identified by a MEDLINE® search. Recurrence risks among methodologically similar studies were pooled using a random effects model.
Among 29 124 placenta pathology reports from 27 087 patients, there were 2423 cases of VUE among 2382 patients, of which 153 had ≥2 placentas examined. There were 41 recurrent cases of VUE for a recurrence risk of 27% per patient, 22% per parity, and 19% per gravida. We identified 64 articles, of which 4 were retained. One examined all placentas from all births over a ∼3-year period, finding a recurrence risk of 27%. The remaining 3 studies, along with our own, used indications for placental examination and had a pooled recurrence risk of 30% (95% Confidence Interval: 0.21–0.41).
In our study, which is the largest, most comprehensive, and methodologically robust to date, VUE recurrence risk was ∼30%.
•This is a comprehensive study of recurrence risk of vilitis of unknown etiology (VUE).•Our retrospective cohort used many indications for placenta examination and minimized important biases.•Our systematic review searched all available articles in MEDLINE as well as references of articles.•The pooled recurrence risk among methodologically similar studies was ∼30%.
We approach the study of the unit j’aimerais dire, in the theoretical framework of linguistic polyphony. This tool allows us to distinguish two semantic values with the same discursive strategy of ...attenuation. Two different mechanisms allow attenuation: the first corresponds to an attenuation conveyed by a hypothetical construction, in which j’aimerais dire constitutes the apodosis of an implicit protasis; for the second, we are not dealing with a hypothetical construction conditional but rather an attenuation conditional. The proposed structures, in which the two semantic entities are inserted – in deep structure – are respectively: j’aimerais dire X, si Y, and puisque Y, j’aimerais dire X. The use of the modal conditional, of hypothesis and of attenuation, allows the projection of both ethos.
