AbstractPractical work (craftsmanship) usually profits by science and vice versa, but conflicts may appear. Knowledge in empirical science is declarative and general. Practical knowledge is »silent« ...and reflects the cumulated individual experiences within a profession. In a mature discipline like medicine, recognition of the unique value of the two kinds of knowledge protects against conflict. The police have only recently added science to govern practice. In addition, much of the police work is rule-governed and politically controlled – it does not reflect empirical knowledge. Explanations in natural science refer to Causes in the objective world. Meaning is the corresponding humanities key concept which is also highly relevant for police work. When conflicts arise – a dominant discourse may warp discussions. Examples of a set of such relevant conflicts are provided and discussed. Awareness and acknowledgement of the virtues and limitations of various knowledge forms are often lacking and leads to mutual disrespect. Such conflicts are currently difficult to resolve because the police leadership usually lacks practical police experience as well as training in empirical science. The presently weak voice of science should be strengthened by a full academization of the police in all Nordic countries.
Few institutions in modern society are as significant as universities, yet our historical and sociological understanding of the role of higher education has not been substantially updated for ...decades. By revisiting the emergence and transformation of higher education since 1800 using a novel processual approach, this book recognizes these developments as having been as central to constituting the modern world as the industrial and democratic revolutions. This new interpretation of the role of universities in contemporary society promises to re-orient our understanding of the importance of higher education in the past and future development of modern societies. It will therefore appeal to scholars of social science and history with interests in social history and social change, education, the professions and inequalities.
Throughout history, military officers’ standing in society has been maintained through the establishment and reforming of military academies. Gradually infusing officer education with academic ...standards and scholarly ideals has helped secure the corps’ status as a legitimate profession. Drawing on Norbert Elias and Pierre Bourdieu, this article explores the “academization” of officer education in Sweden over 200 years. It finds that academization processes have been prominent in the military officer field, first, during 19th-century struggles to establish a state-organized educational system and war science discipline for the emerging profession, and second, during post-Cold War struggles to reinstate the military’s legitimacy and status by integrating officer education in the university sector. It argues that academic capital has been drawn on instrumentally in the officer field, as a means to endow the corps with a wider credibility and, more broadly, justify the existence of violent professions in peaceful societies.
This article examines the shaping of agricultural higher education in Sweden during the interwar and war years. More specifically, it conveys the conflicting views on the training of agronomists ...expressed in discussions that informed the 1932 decision to establish the Agricultural University
College and, later, the shaping of the agricultural degree curriculum. It demonstrates that agricultural policy had a decisive influence on the outcome. Of particular importance was the smallholding policy; a set of government measures that emerged around the turn of the twentieth century,
aimed at improving conditions for smallholders. Its advocates acknowledged the critical role of agronomists in enlightening, educating and advising smallholders. A modernization of agriculture that centred on small-scale farming, they argued, needed agronomists with a practice-orientated and
all-round training. Thus, they successfully checked the attempts to introduce a science-orientated and university-like instruction in agricultural higher education. When it came to training agronomists, academization had its limits.
Zusammenfassung
Die medizinische Weiterbildung in den verschiedenen Fachdisziplinen ist hinsichtlich der klinischen Ausbildung bundesweit und landesweit durch die (Muster‑)Weiterbildungsordnung ...(MWBO) geregelt. Im Fokus steht dabei die Qualifikation zum Facharzt im jeweiligen Fachgebiet. Ein Curriculum für Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter an universitären Standorten muss zusätzliche Weiterbildungsinhalte in den Bereichen Forschung und Lehre anbieten, um den Anforderungen und der abschließenden Qualifikation des akademischen Nachwuchses gerecht zu werden. Diese Inhalte sind in der MWBO der Bundesländer nicht abgebildet. Die „Weiterbildung“ endet formal mit der Facharztprüfung.
Neben kompetenzbasierter medizinischer bzw. gefäßchirurgischer Weiterbildung sind an einer Universitätsklinik Kenntnisse in der Lehrdidaktik, der wissenschaftlichen Praxis, aber auch im Bereich Klinikmanagement, Führungskompetenzen, Gesundheitsökonomie u. v. m. erforderlich. Ein „nationales gefäßchirurgisches Basiscurriculum“ mit standardisierten Inhalten ist ein Lösungsansatz, um Verbundausbildung und Verbundforschung standortübergreifend einheitlich anzubieten. Im folgenden Artikel wird ein der Infrastruktur, den standortspezifischen Ressourcen, den Anforderungen und Karrierewünschen des wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiters angepasstes universitäres Weiterbildungskonzept beispielhaft vorgestellt, das kontinuierlich angepasst wird.

Er zeigt weiter die förderlichen und hinderlichen ...Faktoren auf, die zum heutigen Status quo geführt haben. Aktuelle Zahlen geben einen Überblick zur statistischen Entwicklung; ein Fazit zieht eine insgesamt positive Bilanz zum Prozess und Stand der Akademisierung der Gesundheitsberufe in Österreich. Für die konsequente Umsetzung des gesamten Bologna-Zyklus’ mit konsekutivem Master und der Möglichkeit zum PhD für die Gesundheitsberufe sind aber noch wesentliche Schritte zu gehen. Zusammenfassung
Die Ausbildung akademisch tätiger Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter geht über die Weiterbildungsordnung (WBO) hinaus. Forschung und Lehre erfordern zusätzliche Kompetenzen und ...weiterführende curriculare Inhalte. Das Ausbildungsziel schließt nach der Promotion neben der Facharztprüfung die Erlangung eines akademischen Titels (PhD) oder die Habilitation mit ein. Die für diese akademische Karriere erforderlichen zusätzlichen Kompetenzen müssen in den 6 Weiterbildungsjahren und darüber hinaus entsprechend eingebaut und vermittelt werden. Zahlreiche Module können standardisiert und damit standortübergreifend etabliert und vermittelt werden. Ein Logbuch ermöglicht die entsprechende Dokumentation und Prüfung der curricularen Umsetzung. Im vorliegenden Artikel wird der Vorschlag eines standortübergreifenden, gemeinsamen strukturierten akademischen Curriculums für Ärztinnen und Ärzte in der Weiterbildung zum Facharzt für Gefäßchirurgie an deutschen Universitäten und akademischen Lehrkrankenhäusern vorgestellt.
