Based on comparative adult education statistics offered by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC) and country case studies, this book ...analyses the policies and structures that foster adult learning. It examines a variety of forms of adult learning, ranging from initial forms of post-compulsory education, such as upper secondary tracks and tertiary education, to firm training, compensatory adult education and learning for civic and leisure oriented purposes. Throughout the book, adult learning systems are directly linked to a variety of structural and public policy frameworks using a comparative welfare state approach. Themes such as pathways to learning and transition systems, participation patterns in higher education and participation patterns in other organized forms of adult learning are covered. The countries discussed are the UK, the USA, Korea, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany and the Netherlands. Situated at the intersection between scholarship and policy and using a mixed-methods approach, this title contributes fundamental insights into the further study of policies and structures related to alternative post-compulsory learning pathways.
Music, constituting a great phenomenon of the world, represents an inherent element in the daily life of society, in the consciousness and nature of man, because everything is movement, everything is ...vibration, everything is sound. The relationship "man-music (arts)" places in the foreground the educational function through which it - educates moral feelings, human qualities, cultivates the spiritual sphere of man. Musical education throughout life is presented as a continuous individual process of spiritual self-improvement of the personality through multiple forms of relationship with the art of music. In this context, musical education is significant to perpetuity - lifelong education, on the three dimensions of the human being: biological, intellectual, spiritual, because it is implicitly based on the undulating character of the universe, the cosmos and human existence.

As effective surgeon educators, we must seek continual improvement, to be “better today than I was yesterday.” This pursuit of personal and professional development requires self-awareness of a ...guiding purpose, and grit, the passion and perseverance to achieve long-term goals. Surgical training draws on an apprenticeship model, where progressive transfer of knowledge, responsibility, and autonomy occurs over time as trainees work with experienced surgeons. Educators should model personal responsibility and technical excellence and require both of their trainees. While training programs shift towards competency-based learning, educators must remember that we shape learners with the “hidden curriculum” and not just the facts we teach them.
The volume presents research that emerges from the 9th International Adult Education Academy (2022), which brings together researchers, students and practitioners from around the world to share ...perspectives comparatively. More than 80 participants from almost 20 different countries have exchanged, compared and expanded their individual knowledge and experience on adult learning and education. This volume consisting of eight contributions (including one fundamental article beforehand) assumes that globalisation affects national, regional and local levels of adult learning and education. Transformational relations are observed and analysed through the lens of participation, sustainability and digitalisation. All contributions apply an international comparative research approach to empirically investigate these areas with their upcoming needs. This approach takes place under consideration of comparison as a research method which not only grounds on a long tradition and relies on a set of rules and techniques, but also on an inner attitude and sensitivity with which we look at the world and its global needs while trying to understand.

Pedagogy in Process presents a first-hand account of the most comprehensive attempt yet to put into practice Paulo Freire’s theory of education within a real societal setting. When Guinea Bissau on ...the West African coast declared independence in 1973 the rate of illiteracy in its adult population was ninety percent. The new government faced the enormous task of educating its citizens. With Freire as collaborator and advisor the government launched a huge grass-roots literacy campaign and this book is Freire’s memoir of that campaign. Those familiar with Freire’s work will identify his ongoing insistence on the unity between theory and practice, mental and manual work, and past and present experience. This is essential reading for anyone interested Freire’s revolutionary ideas on education and the transformative power they hold when applied to society and the classroom.
This paper explores the development and current state of andragogy as a scientific discipline in Serbia, with a particular focus on its professionalisation at the University of Belgrade. Despite ...periods of crisis and societal transitions, andragogy has demonstrated remarkable resilience, remaining relevant and influential in the educational landscape. The current study program at the Department of Andragogy at the University of Belgrade is depicted at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. By analysing master’s and doctoral theses, and published scientific papers, the paper provides insights into the prevalent issues and topics in the field. The findings underscore the impact and relevance of andragogy in Serbia and suggest its future prospects. Upholding its core principles and holistic approach, andragogy can play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the past and the present, leading to the revitalisation of adult education and shaping the trajectory of the discipline itself in Serbia and beyond.
