ABSTRACT This article aimed to discuss the challenges faced by teachers of Youth and Adult Education (YAE) in the municipality of João Pessoa/PB, to teach the elderly during the covid-19 pandemic. ...The qualitative method was adopted and information was collected with 10 teachers through a questionnaire in Google Forms virtual format. They were examined with the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The results revealed the difficulties that teachers face in dealing with remote teaching, especially with the elderly, since this portion of the population has its own technological deficiencies and is not used to this teaching format.

ABSTRACT The article describes and presents data from field research carried out with young high school students in the Youth and Adult Education modality from 14 state schools in the city of Rio de ...Janeiro. The analyzed data are the result of three research methodologies: survey, narrative interviews and photographic devices for self-narrating. The youngsters in the research reveal that returning to school occurs as they rediscover the meaning of schooling in their projects to improve living conditions. Work and school establish mutual influences and, for these young people, they are not self-excluding situations, they overlap to constitute the experience of a working popular young person.
ABSTRACT The text analyzes part of the data produced in the context of a Master’s research. It is based on the assumptions of the qualitative approach and uses interviews to produce data. To guide ...the realization of this study, Freire (1998), Santos (2000), Arroyo (2005), Galvão and Di Pierro (2007), Gomes (2020) and others are highlighted. The research results reaffirm the need, expanded in the post-pandemic context, for reflection on the nature and organization of pedagogical work in the schooling of young people and adults. It discusses the presence of emancipation elements characteristic of popular education of which EJA is heir to, as well as aspects of regulation, characteristic of education systems.

Learners’ socio-demographic characteristics, personal traits, and performance expectancy are frequently employed to interpret online participation among members in virtual, higher education, and ...professional settings, but not in adult education contexts. Furthermore, the social capital framework has scarcely been used to explain online participation in educational settings, despite its prevalence in virtual contexts. The present study aims to uncover the unique predictive value of altruism, perceived learning benefits as a measure of performance expectancy, and social capital with regard to adult learners’ online participation in addition to socio-demographic variables. A questionnaire was administered and completed by 181 adult learners following a blended learning program in Flanders (Belgium). Hierarchical multiple regressions revealed that working learners, lower degree holders, and females are the keenest participants in online participation. We also found that performance expectancy outweighed altruism in explaining online participation. Only two dimensions of social capital, namely sense of belonging and norms of reciprocity, significantly predicted online participation. Based on these findings, pedagogical and research implications are discussed.
•Adult learners’ online participation was captured by three different dimensions.•Lower degree holders, females, and working learners were found to be more active online.•The unique predictive values of altruism, performance, and social capital were examined.•Perceived learning benefits were the most significant predictor of online participation.•Norms of reciprocity and sense of belonging enhanced online participation, but not trust.
This article aims to provoke a discussion around conceiving community members as community-based research facilitators and leaders of their own process of change. It argues this is possible by ...rescuing Gramsci’s legacy of organic intellectuals that is present in community-based research literature, particularly under the participatory research rubric. However, this perspective has been overshadowed by a strong emphasis on community-based research (CBR) as a collaborative research approach rather than a people’s approach for knowledge production that leads to social transformation. Furthermore, such a view of community-based research is fruitful within an adult education and social movement learning framework. In a sense, social movements provide an environment that facilitates critical consciousness and the formation of organic intellectuals and in which communities and academics learn to better engage in partnership for community-led social change. In this context, CBR is still a collaborative approach, but one led primarily by organic intellectuals.
