This paper examines an approach for improving the accuracy of passenger show rate predictions for airlines. The method involves the logical analysis of data. This method based on optimization ...techniques, detects sets of conditions for which all the satisfying passengers have a significantly higher or lower show rate than the studied population. The passengers are classified according to the patterns as show, no-show or unknown. When compared to Air Canada’s current tool for overbooking forecasts, which is based on historical statistics, logical analysis of data model appears to be very competitive.
► Logical analysis of data (LAD) is a classification method. ► This method is described as being robust, flexible and accurate. ► LAD has been used to forecast show rate at Air Canada. ► LAD offers better predictions than the current tool.

In recent years, as China's civil aviation has gradually come into development period of transition, quality promotion and structure expansion, it is necessary that the traditional business of civil ...aviation need to change to satisfy passengers’ needs. In order to implement the policy of smart airport, improve the shortages of non-aviation business of airports and specialty products sales, this paper researched the specialty products sales in airports, and investigated the needs of air passengers for specialty products, the development of airlines’ online markets and the situation about specialty products sales in online and offline. Then we summarized what can be brought to the airport and brand owners of specialty products through developing O2O platform of specialty products. This paper concludes the needs of passengers for specialty products sales mode, and puts forward some intentions for the structure of O2O platform of specialty products.
Travel and tourism are among the most important economic contributors to most, if not all, countries. According to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the number of international arrivals showed ...remarkable growth, from 25 million international arrivals in 1950 to 699 million in 2000. This indicates an average annual growth rate of 7%. In the same period, tourism receipts recorded an average annual growth rate of 11%. In 2002, international tourism generated worldwide receipts of US$474 billion, corresponding to US$1.3 billion a day or US$675 per tourist arrival. In view of the important role that international tourism plays in the global economy, this research applied four time-series forecasting techniques to project the trend of US air travelers, a major source market, to Europe, Caribbean and Asia, the three leading outbound markets (second to Canada and Mexico) from the US in the period 2003-2005. Experimental outcomes reveal declining trends. This paper discusses the underlying factors for such trends. Lastly, this paper ends with a detailed discussion on policy implications.
Indonesia is an archipelagic country with diverse regions. Among them are several regions that are difficult to reach by land or sea transportation, such as Papua and West Papua in the Papua Islands. ...In the context of national transportation, such regions are referred to as regions with geographical constraints. This study aimed to predict both generation and attraction of air passengers in The Papua Islands. The study indicated that out of the fourteen independent variables as candidate predictors, only two significantly influenced generation and attraction: population and per capita GRDP. Over the next five years, it is predicted that generation and attraction will grow by 11.94% and 9.35% in Papua; and by 81.95% and 70.85% in West Papua. Over the next ten years, generation and attraction are predicted to grow by 26.03% and 29.14% in Papua; and by 94.79% and 96.26% in West Papua.
At present the problem of forecasting passenger transport demand is of immense importance for air transport producers as well as for investors since investment efficiency is greatly affected by the ...accuracy and adequacy of the estimation performed. The aim of the present research is to analyze the possibility of using a neural network approach to forecast the expansion of the air‐transport network in Russia.
This paper reports our research on China's world cities. Formal network analysis of air passenger linkages for recent years among China's most populous cities and among many of the world's largest ...cities allows us to identify the country's leading world city from among the leading Mainland candidates, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. We theorize our findings about China's world cities in relation to both global forces (and China's increasing entanglement with them) and the policies and actions of the national state. We examine the national and global urban network through a longitudinal, two-level analysis of airline passenger travel for four time points between about 1990 and 2005. We show that Beijing was China's leading world city at the beginning of the time period, a status it lost nationally in as early as 1995, and then globally 10 years later. On the other hand Shanghai became China's leading world city, and it acquired this status first nationally in 2000, and then globally in 2005. The changing status of the Chinese capital corresponds to the country's increasing involvement with the capitalist world economy. Shanghai's ascendance as the leading world city in China may indicate that global forces have come to play an increasingly important role relative to that of the developmental state.

The growth of air passengers impacted not only on the addition of fleets number and flight routes, but also on the provision of airports and facilities. Airport facilities are not only about ...terminal space and air-side facilities, but also related to the provision of intermodal facilities to and from the airport. In Indonesia, some airports have increased number of passengers, and some of them decided to move the old airport to a new location. Adi Sutjipto Airport in Yogyakarta plans to move its location to Kulonprogo district which is still in Yogyakarta province. The existence of a new location in Kulonprogo will affect on the selection of transportation modes. On the other hand, the mode choice goes to the new airport are not just overcome, but there are some characteristics factor from the passengers which are influence it . The passengers characteristics are the distance, kind of jobs, the monthly income, private vehicle ownership, the age level and the genders of passengers. The analytical techniques in this study are quantitative descriptive with clustering based on certain criteria using cross tabulation techniques. This study was carried out by giving a questionnaire on air passengers in Adi Sutjipto airport to gain an understanding of their characteristics and their selection of modes transport used when the new airport will be operate. The result of the research is the existence of relationship between characteristics of air passengers with the selection of modes transport to the new airport. Preference for the modes selection to new airport can be taken into consideration in decision-making related to the development of inter-mode facilities to the new airport in Kulonprogo in the future.
The COVID-19 pandemic occurred in 2020 had a significant impact on the global economy, resulting in a significant decrease in air passengers. As a result, time series trends experienced significant ...fluctuations that were difficult to predict. The objective of this research was to forecast the number of air passengers in Phuket, Thailand, from September to December 2022. Additional features, such as exchange rates and time-based properties, were included to enhance the accuracy of our predictions. We then compared the performance of statistical models and machine learning models using evaluation metrics such as mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). Our findings revealed that the SARIMAX model outperformed other models for air passenger forecasting. Nonetheless, machine learning models might be more appropriate for forecasting new data due to their stability with additional training data. This research emphasized the importance of selecting the appropriate model based on the available data and the particular needs of the forecasting problem.
